Crypto Prediction Platform Shuts Down After 195 Days

Prediction Market Trading Terminal Fireplace Shuts Down After Just 195 Days

Fireplace, a trading terminal for prediction markets that secured $1.5 million in funding in February, announced on August 10 that it will cease operations. Users have until September 30 at 23:59 UTC to close their positions, withdraw funds, and export their account data.

“We’re shutting down Fireplace,” the company stated in a post. “To everyone who traded with us and supported us along the way, thank you. It was a hell of a run.” The announcement did not provide a specific reason for the closure. When asked if low trading volume was the cause, the company did not respond. Fireplace has invited individuals or teams building in the prediction market space and interested in its technology to contact them directly. The terminal will remain accessible until the September 30 deadline.

Fireplace launched publicly on January 27, with its pre-seed funding round announced on February 18, marking a 195-day period between its debut and its eventual wind-down.

The funding round was led by Frachtis, with participation from White Star Capital and syndicate rounds on Legion and Echo. At the time of its funding announcement, Fireplace reported a waitlist of over 30,000 traders, more than 10,000 followers on X, and recognition with the Polymarket builders badge.

The terminal was designed to aggregate markets, liquidity, and execution across various platforms, offering real-time data, wallet and whale tracking, advanced charting tools, and smart order routing. Sumer Malhotra, Co-Founder and CEO, previously stated that “Prediction markets are one of the most powerful financial primitives, but the user experience hasn’t caught up.” Co-Founder and CTO Akshay Rajagopal had emphasized the need for prediction markets to have “their own Bloomberg Terminal.” Xavier Meegan, CIO of Frachtis, had noted that Fireplace was “building the professional interface that markets like Polymarket have been missing.”

In contrast to Fireplace’s short lifespan, Kalshi announced a $1 billion Series F funding round on May 7, valuing the company at $22 billion. This round was led by Coatue and included contributions from Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, IVP, Paradigm, Morgan Stanley, and ARK Invest. Kalshi reported that its annualized trading volume had surged from $52 billion to $178 billion over six months and that it handles over 90% of prediction market activity in the United States.

Meanwhile, Polymarket is reportedly in discussions to raise $400 million at a valuation close to $15 billion. Intercontinental Exchange, the parent company of the NYSE, has invested approximately $2 billion in Polymarket across two separate investments. It is notable that Fireplace routed orders to both Polymarket and Kalshi, platforms that CryptoPotato ranks as the top two prediction markets.

The broader venture capital landscape for crypto and blockchain saw a significant slowdown in the first quarter of 2026. According to Galaxy Digital, venture firms invested roughly $4 billion across 355 deals in the sector, representing a 50% decrease in capital invested and a 16% drop in the number of deals compared to the previous quarter.
