Corporate Crypto Bets Drown After Latest Crash

Crypto Market Carnage Leaves Corporate Holders Facing Billions in Paper Losses

The cryptocurrency markets have endured a brutal downturn over the past week, with Bitcoin plummeting to $59,000 on Friday, marking its lowest point in 19 months. This significant decline, shedding over $20,000 in roughly three weeks, has not only impacted Bitcoin but also dragged down nearly all altcoins. The fallout has intensified pressure on major corporate holders of these digital assets, with analysts at Lookonchain detailing the substantial paper losses these companies are now facing.

Corporate Crypto Holdings Under Scrutiny

Data compiled by Lookonchain highlights the extent of the financial strain on prominent corporate investors.

  • Michael Saylor’s MicroStrategy has seen its significant Bitcoin holdings incur an unrealized loss exceeding $12 billion. The company, a leading corporate accumulator of Bitcoin, holds approximately 843,706 BTC. With an average acquisition price of $75,600 per Bitcoin, MicroStrategy has invested around $63.8 billion. The current valuation of its holdings stands at $51.6 billion, resulting in the largest unrealized loss in its history.

  • Tom Lee’s Bitmine is also experiencing considerable paper losses, reportedly over $10 billion on its Ethereum investments. This comes despite repeated predictions from Lee in recent months that Ethereum had reached its bottom and a cryptocurrency “spring” was imminent.

  • SharpLink has also seen its Ethereum holdings take a hit, with Lookonchain data indicating a value drop of approximately $1.7 billion at current market prices.

  • Japan-based Metaplanet, often dubbed ‘Asia’s MicroStrategy,’ has recorded unrealized losses exceeding $1.4 billion on its Bitcoin holdings. The company had aggressively accumulated Bitcoin as a hedge against currency depreciation and macroeconomic uncertainty during 2024 and 2025 but has largely paused its purchases in recent months.

  • Forward Industries is facing a paper loss of $1.14 billion on its Solana exposure. Solana, known for its higher volatility, presents amplified potential for both gains and losses.

It is important to note that the cryptocurrency market operates 24/7, and prices are subject to constant fluctuation. The figures presented offer a snapshot of the current financial landscape for these corporate holders, painting a stark picture of the impact of the recent market crash.
