Senate Vote Looms for Landmark Crypto Bill, Sparking Market Jitters
Washington D.C. – A pivotal vote on the CLARITY Act, a landmark piece of cryptocurrency legislation, is scheduled for later today in the U.S. Senate, with potential repercussions rippling across the digital asset market.
While the vote itself does not guarantee the bill’s enactment, it could clear the path for formal deliberations. However, Democratic lawmakers have expressed reservations about the current framework, pushing for further amendments. This stance significantly diminishes the likelihood of the CLARITY Act becoming law before the year concludes. Nevertheless, some cryptocurrency traders are already positioning themselves for the potential market impact.
One notable move, revealed by X user Max Crypto, involves an anonymous “whale” investor who has established substantial short positions ahead of the vote. This investor has reportedly initiated a $47 million short on Bitcoin (BTC), a $22 million short on Ethereum (ETH), and a $4 million short on Zcash (ZEC).
Intriguingly, this market participant has executed nearly 2,300 trades to date with a reported 100% win rate. This remarkable success has led Max Crypto to speculate whether the whale might be an “insider,” a theory echoed by many other observers.
A number of analysts anticipate the legislation’s rejection today and foresee a significant downturn for Bitcoin in response. X user Midas, for instance, predicts that the primary cryptocurrency could experience a “brutal dump” following such news, potentially falling below $70,000 and testing new lows.
“Once $70K breaks, most of the remaining liquidity sits below $60K,” Midas stated. “That’s where the real fear should finally hit the market. And that’s exactly what we still need to form the 2026 macro bottom. I still expect one final capitulation before this cycle is over.”
Earlier, Midas had observed BTC trading within a familiar descending structure, warning of an imminent “ultimate flashout” to $50,000. The analyst views $55,000 as the potential end point for the bear market, suggesting that “every aggressive bounce still looks like another trap” until that level is reached.
In contrast to this prevailing bearish sentiment, the analytics platform Lookonchain has identified another anonymous market participant making a contrary bet.
This whale reportedly closed a $58.4 million short position on BTC, realizing a $266,000 profit. Subsequently, the investor shifted to a 40x leveraged long position on 900 BTC. This major player has initiated 914 trades thus far, with a win rate hovering around 51.72%.
