BlackRock’s Bitcoin ETF Dominates as Ether Products See Outflows
BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) was a significant driver of inflows on Monday, October 19, 2026, attracting $665.2 million. This performance stood out on a day when several competing funds experienced net outflows, with IBIT shouldering much of the category’s gains.
In contrast, spot ether exchange-traded funds (ETFs) faced a challenging start to the week, recording $103.3 million in net outflows. This extended a recent trend of redemptions for ether-based products.
IBIT Leads the Pack Amidst Competitor Losses
The fund, trading under the ticker IBIT, was the clear standout performer of the trading session. Its substantial $665.2 million inflow occurred while two of its prominent competitors saw money move in the opposite direction. Fidelity’s FBTC registered $83.6 million in outflows, and Grayscale’s GBTC shed $54.9 million.
When combined, these figures indicate that U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs collectively achieved a net inflow of $526.7 million for the day. During this period, Bitcoin itself traded within a range of $78,700 to $82,800.
Ether ETFs Continue to Face Redemptions
The performance of ether products presented a starkly different picture. Spot ether ETFs experienced a net outflow of $103.3 million on Monday. This followed a week of consistent withdrawals, with outflows from spot ether ETFs reaching approximately $320 million for the week ending October 16.
For context, a spot ETF directly holds the underlying asset. An investment in IBIT, for example, provides exposure to Bitcoin’s price through a standard brokerage account, eliminating the need for investors to manage cryptocurrency wallets or private keys.
Institutional Interest and Market Sentiment
Analysis of these figures suggests that the substantial inflow into IBIT could signal robust institutional interest in Bitcoin. Coupled with Bitcoin’s relatively stable trading range, the influx may indicate a strategic accumulation phase by larger investors.
The performance of ether products, however, suggests a more cautious market sentiment. Research indicates that the contrasting trends between Bitcoin and ether ETFs point to a more guarded outlook on ether, with current sentiment and market dynamics potentially favoring Bitcoin in the short term.
By mid-October 2026, cumulative net inflows into U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs had surpassed $56 billion, with BlackRock’s IBIT consistently holding the largest market share. Spot Ether ETFs, meanwhile, entered October 2026 with year-to-date net outflows exceeding $950 million.
Monday’s data provides a clear snapshot: a $526.7 million net gain for spot Bitcoin ETFs, largely driven by BlackRock’s fund, contrasted with a $103.3 million outflow from ether products.
