XRP Gains Momentum Despite Market Volatility

XRP Faces Headwinds Amid Broader Crypto Market Downturn

XRP is navigating another challenging period alongside the broader cryptocurrency market, but the activity beneath the surface suggests a more nuanced picture than the price chart alone reveals. The entire crypto market has experienced a decline of over 5% in the past week, and XRP has also struggled to maintain upward momentum. However, recent volume updates indicate continued activity from traders, large holders, ETF investors, and users of the XRP Ledger.

Significant XRP Volume Updates

The first significant volume update concerns XRP’s largest holders. According to data shared by crypto analyst Ali Martinez, large wallet holders accumulated 71 million XRP over a seven-day period, despite the token’s price pressure. XRP fell nearly 5% during the week and traded around $1.36 at the time the analyst shared the data, indicating that the buying occurred during a period of weakness and volatility for the asset. This is significant because whale accumulation can alter the dynamics of a selloff. It suggests that the market downturn is not solely driven by fear-based selling, but also by larger wallets increasing their exposure while smaller holders sell. While the price has not yet fully reflected this buying activity, the behavior warrants close observation.

Increased XRP Ledger Payment Activity

Payment activity on the XRP Ledger has also strengthened notably during the recent market downturn. The number of payments between accounts increased from below 1 million earlier in the week to 1.22 million payments by May 22.

The rise was not limited to transaction count. XRP payment volume also increased from approximately 200 million XRP around May 16 and 17 to over 400 million XRP by May 18. This elevated level persisted in the following days, remaining above 400 million XRP by May 22. This indicates that more payments were being processed, and a larger amount of XRP was being transferred between accounts.

ETF Inflows Contribute to Volume

Another important volume signal comes from the ETF market. Data from SoSoValue indicates that XRP-linked ETF products recorded over $65 million in weekly inflows last week. This week’s flow also reached a positive $22.04 million, with net inflows occurring daily, even as the broader crypto market faced pressure.

The inflows into Spot XRP ETFs are significant because they represent a different type of demand compared to regular exchange trading. While spot and futures volume can be influenced by short-term trades and leveraged trading, ETF inflows reflect investors taking exposure through more structured investment vehicles.

The timing of these inflows is also noteworthy. XRP ETF flows are occurring while the price is under pressure, suggesting that ETF buyers are not waiting for a price breakout. This creates a subtle support layer, even if it has not yet been strong enough to counteract the broader market downtrend.
