XRP Surges From Multi-Year Lows on Bullish Rally Forecast

XRP Recovers From Multi-Year Lows Amid Analyst Optimism for Major Rally

The cryptocurrency market experienced a significant downturn on Friday, with digital assets across the board seeing sharp declines. Ripple’s cross-border token, XRP, was not spared, plummeting to $1.05, a level not seen in approximately 19 months.

However, XRP has demonstrated a swift recovery. Earlier today, the token approached the $1.20 mark, encountering some resistance and subsequent selling pressure. As of press time, XRP had settled at $1.13, still representing a 5% gain on the day and having successfully retested several key support levels.

Despite this impressive rebound from recent lows, prominent analyst EGRAG CRYPTO has cautioned that the broader market structure remains challenging for bullish sentiment in the short term. The analyst suggests that XRP might still be navigating the final stages of a deeper correction before its anticipated rally can begin.

EGRAG CRYPTO highlighted a recurring pattern observed across previous market cycles, specifically concerning the interaction between the 50-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA) and the 100-day EMA on higher timeframes. Historically, when XRP decisively falls below the 50 EMA on the monthly chart, it has often triggered a cascade of events: a loss of momentum, a price breakdown, emotional capitulation among investors, and ultimately, a final liquidity sweep towards the 100 EMA.

According to EGRAG CRYPTO, this historical sequence appears to be unfolding currently, with XRP’s trajectory still leaning towards the downside as the market seeks its ultimate macro bottom. If past patterns hold true, Ripple’s token could face further downward pressure before completing this cycle’s “capitulation phase.”

The analyst views this period as a necessary, albeit painful, precursor to a more substantial rally for XRP. Rather than attempting to pinpoint an exact bottom, which has historically proven to be an elusive endeavor, EGRAG CRYPTO emphasizes that the entry price will be less significant once XRP experiences its anticipated surge. Whether investors enter at $1.10, $0.92, or even lower levels like $0.70, the long-term gains are expected to overshadow these entry points.

EGRAG CRYPTO’s macro price targets for XRP begin with a more conservative range of $7 to $8, with potential for significantly higher figures, including $13 or even “mid-double digits.”

The analyst offered a strategic perspective: “Trying to catch the perfect bottom is one of the fastest ways to miss the entire macro move. That’s why I focus on: Position building, Liquidity management, Probability zones, Macro structure, And Not ego.”

  • Hayes: Wall Street Targets Hyperliquid’s Top Spot

Hayes: Wall Street Targets Hyperliquid’s Top Spot

Hyperliquid, which emerged as a prominent player in crypto derivatives following its 2023 launch, may face a challenging future, according to BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes.

Despite the decentralized platform’s recent surge in popularity, which has propelled its native token to new all-time highs, Hayes expressed concerns in a Decrypt interview about impending competition from Wall Street and established cryptocurrency entities. He believes this could undermine a key driver of the digital asset’s value.

Hyperliquid’s model relies on a consistent flow of trading fees to repurchase its token from the open market and permanently remove it from circulation. This scarcity-boosting mechanism, Hayes warned, leaves the protocol particularly vulnerable to any abrupt loss of market share.

“At the end of the day, this is a cash story,” Hayes stated. “There will be more competition in real-world asset perps, whether that’s from centralized exchanges like Binance or TradFi exchanges.”

Arthur Hayes (@CryptoHayes) had been a vocal supporter of Hyperliquid as its token reached record highs. On Thursday, he announced he had “dumped” his holdings, citing potential risks he perceives for the decentralized upstart.

    A Shift in Stance

A day after his interview, Hayes informed his followers on X that he had “just dumped” his entire holdings of HYPE tokens, along with another digital asset. He attributed this decision to an anticipated rise in energy prices, a series of high-profile IPOs, and a perceived shift in President Trump’s stance on artificial intelligence.

“Time to take profit,” he added, less than two months after publishing an essay predicting that Hyperliquid’s native token “is going to $150 by August 2026.”

According to CoinGecko, HYPE was trading around $59 on Sunday, marking a 14% decrease over the preceding seven days. The asset had reached a fresh all-time high above $75 just last week. Hayes’ abrupt change in position drew criticism from some observers. However, during his interview, he had praised Hyperliquid’s success in facilitating trading for typically illiquid markets, particularly oil, over the weekend.

“Perennial crypto haters had to acknowledge that price action and price discovery for these key variables happen over the weekend on a crypto trading platform,” he said. “I think this is a watershed moment, and what caused people to wake up.”

    Real-World Assets and Competition

Hyperliquid expanded its offerings to include derivatives for real-world assets, such as gold and silver, through an upgrade in October. On Tuesday, the platform’s official X account announced that the total value of outstanding positions linked to these markets had reached $3 billion.

Data from a Dune dashboard indicates that the platform has repurchased 26.6 million HYPE tokens, permanently removing 579,603 from circulation. At current prices, the larger sum represents approximately $1.56 billion worth of Hyperliquid’s native token.

Hayes highlighted the aggressive push by major U.S. financial institutions into the perpetual futures market. Unlike traditional futures, perpetual futures, or “perps,” do not have expiration dates, allowing traders to speculate indefinitely with periodic payments to maintain price alignment.

Under Hayes’ leadership, BitMEX launched the world’s first perpetual futures contract in 2016, a concept that originated in the early 1990s with Nobel Prize-winning economist Robert Shiller. Hayes now predicts that established Wall Street firms will eventually adopt these products as a means of survival.

“All these traditional exchanges are going to be forced to launch a competing product,” he stated. “By next year, we’re going to see some decently liquid products in TradFi that use this perpetual swap architecture.”

Ripple ETFs Shine Amid XRP’s 19-Month Low

Ripple ETFs Offer Rare Bright Spot Despite XRP’s Sharp Decline

It was a challenging week for the cryptocurrency market, with significant downturns affecting most digital assets. Ripple’s XRP, known for its robust and vocal community, was not immune to the broader market sell-off, experiencing a substantial price drop.

However, a notable silver lining emerged for XRP: its associated exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in the United States managed to finish the week with positive net inflows, a rare feat compared to most other major crypto ETFs.

While the absolute figures were modest, especially when contrasted with the initial surge of ETFs following their launch, the XRP ETFs recorded $2.62 million in net inflows for the week. This performance stands in stark contrast to Bitcoin ETFs, which saw a significant outflow of $1.7 billion.

The spot XRP ETFs experienced only one day of net withdrawals last week, on June 3, with $5.34 million leaving the funds. However, this was offset by net inflows of $4.13 million on June 1 and $3.83 million on June 4. Two other trading days showed minimal activity, with SoSoValue reporting $0.00 in net flows for both.

Consequently, the cumulative net flows for these ETFs continued to climb, reaching a new all-time high of over $1.43 billion. Bitwise’s XRP ETF has solidified its lead over Canary Capital’s XRPC ETF, holding $467 million and $458 million, respectively.

Despite the positive performance of the ETFs, the underlying XRP asset was heavily impacted by the widespread market downturn. In a week where Bitcoin plummeted from over $73,000 to $59,000, XRP fell from $1.33 to $1.05. This 21% decline marked XRP’s lowest price point since late 2024, shortly after its post-US presidential election rally began.

Although XRP briefly dipped close to the crucial $1.00 psychological level, its subsequent rebound has been subdued, and it continues to trade below $1.10. Analysts remain optimistic about XRP’s long-term prospects, but prominent figures like EGRAG CRYPTO caution that a drop below $1.00 might be imminent unless the broader market structure shows rapid improvement.

  • Dogecoin Poised for 300x Surge to $20, Analyst Predicts

Dogecoin Poised for 300x Surge to $20, Analyst Predicts

Dogecoin, currently trading below $0.09, remains significantly below its May 2021 all-time high of $0.74, down over 88%. In a market largely dominated by Bitcoin, Ethereum, and XRP throughout 2026, the meme coin has largely been overlooked. However, crypto analyst Javon Marks believes he has identified a recurring pattern in Dogecoin’s long-term chart that many traders are missing: a trend of increasingly strong performances during altcoin seasons. If this pattern continues, Marks suggests a potential target exceeding $20 for the popular cryptocurrency.

    Dogecoin’s Alt-Season Trajectory

Technical analysis of Dogecoin’s weekly price action reveals a history of substantial gains during major altcoin cycles. The rallies of 2017 and 2021 serve as the basis for Marks’ latest projection. His analysis, which spans multiple market cycles from Dogecoin’s early trading days into a projected alt-season window for 2026, highlights a consistent upward trend.

In 2017, Dogecoin experienced a roughly 100x surge from a low base, peaking around $0.018. The 2021 alt season saw an even more dramatic increase, with Marks’ chart indicating a rise of over 300x. This rally propelled Dogecoin from its previous cycle’s lower ranges to as high as the $0.70 mark, transforming it from an internet novelty into one of the largest cryptocurrencies by market capitalization, supported by a dedicated community of investors and developers.

The Case for a $20 Dogecoin

Historically, Dogecoin has achieved new higher highs in each cycle: $0.0025 in 2017, $0.069 in 2018, $0.017 in 2020, and $0.74 in 2021. Marks’ hypothesis is that if Dogecoin’s performance during alt seasons continues to surpass previous cycles, the next rally could be even larger than the last, potentially leading to a 300x or greater move.

Applying this projected 300x expansion to Dogecoin’s current price action leads to Marks’ target zone above $20. It’s important to note that a $20 Dogecoin is not a short-term expectation. At the current trading price of $0.081, reaching $20 would require an approximately 247x increase. Marks’ projection extends even further, with visual analysis suggesting a move beyond $24.

For such a significant price surge to materialize, Dogecoin would first need to regain lost ground. Its current price action is the weakest it has been since 2022. Before any serious consideration of double-digit Dogecoin prices, the meme coin must reclaim the $0.10 level. Subsequently, it would need to overcome major resistance zones at $0.20, $0.30, and break through the December 2024 rejection zone of $0.49 before approaching its previous all-time high of $0.7316.

Furthermore, the entire altcoin market would need to enter a robust rally phase, as Marks’ prediction is intrinsically linked to alt season performance. This scenario hinges on capital flowing out of Bitcoin and into other cryptocurrencies. Notably, a $20 Dogecoin valuation would imply a market capitalization of approximately $3 trillion, given an estimated circulating supply of 154.5 billion DOGE tokens as of June 2026.

Crypto Market Carnage Leaves Corporate Holders Facing Billions in Paper Losses

The cryptocurrency markets have endured a brutal downturn over the past week, with Bitcoin plummeting to $59,000 on Friday, marking its lowest point in 19 months. This significant decline, shedding over $20,000 in roughly three weeks, has not only impacted Bitcoin but also dragged down nearly all altcoins. The fallout has intensified pressure on major corporate holders of these digital assets, with analysts at Lookonchain detailing the substantial paper losses these companies are now facing.

    Corporate Crypto Holdings Under Scrutiny

Data compiled by Lookonchain highlights the extent of the financial strain on prominent corporate investors.

    • Michael Saylor’s MicroStrategy has seen its significant Bitcoin holdings incur an unrealized loss exceeding $12 billion. The company, a leading corporate accumulator of Bitcoin, holds approximately 843,706 BTC. With an average acquisition price of $75,600 per Bitcoin, MicroStrategy has invested around $63.8 billion. The current valuation of its holdings stands at $51.6 billion, resulting in the largest unrealized loss in its history.

    • Tom Lee’s Bitmine is also experiencing considerable paper losses, reportedly over $10 billion on its Ethereum investments. This comes despite repeated predictions from Lee in recent months that Ethereum had reached its bottom and a cryptocurrency “spring” was imminent.

    • SharpLink has also seen its Ethereum holdings take a hit, with Lookonchain data indicating a value drop of approximately $1.7 billion at current market prices.

    • Japan-based Metaplanet, often dubbed ‘Asia’s MicroStrategy,’ has recorded unrealized losses exceeding $1.4 billion on its Bitcoin holdings. The company had aggressively accumulated Bitcoin as a hedge against currency depreciation and macroeconomic uncertainty during 2024 and 2025 but has largely paused its purchases in recent months.

    • Forward Industries is facing a paper loss of $1.14 billion on its Solana exposure. Solana, known for its higher volatility, presents amplified potential for both gains and losses.

It is important to note that the cryptocurrency market operates 24/7, and prices are subject to constant fluctuation. The figures presented offer a snapshot of the current financial landscape for these corporate holders, painting a stark picture of the impact of the recent market crash.

  • Ethereum Plunges Toward Critical Support

    Ethereum Plunges Toward Critical Support

Ethereum Stands at a Technical Juncture as Bearish Pressure Mounts

Ethereum is approaching a critical technical crossroads as bearish momentum continues to weigh on price action. With a major support zone now under intense pressure, traders are closely watching whether bulls can defend this level or if a breakdown will open the door to a deeper decline.

Bear Flag Breakdown Keeps Ethereum Under Pressure

Ethereum continues to slide, aligning with the broader bearish sentiment currently dominating the market. According to analysis from More Crypto Online, the asset’s recent breakdown from a previously identified bear flag and rejection of the yellow trendline strengthen the hypothesis that the significant B-wave rally peaked back in April. These technical failures serve as strong indicators that the prevailing trend remains firmly to the downside.

The leading scenario currently suggests that Ethereum is developing within a larger C-wave decline, with major support levels established at $1,550 and $1,400. While the price has already begun to react from the first support area, traders should remain cautious because bear market cycles frequently involve corrective rallies that can emerge unexpectedly from these support zones.

In terms of risk management, any potential recovery attempt is anticipated to remain strictly corrective as long as the price continues to trade beneath the yellow trendline resistance. However, a stronger recovery would require the bulls to reclaim substantial resistance levels and fundamentally invalidate the current bearish framework. At this stage, such a reversal lacks the necessary confirmation and market strength. Ultimately, Ethereum remains locked in a definitive bearish trend following its exit from the bear flag formation. With support levels at $1,550 and $1,400 now squarely in focus, the structural setup continues to favor lower price action over an immediate reversal.

ETH Reaches A Critical Decision Zone

Crypto analyst MarketMaestro noted in an X post that Ethereum has successfully held both its long-term support trendline and a key Fibonacci support level on the monthly chart. According to the analyst, the current price zone has become a critical battleground between a routine correction and a much deeper structural decline.

A monthly close below the current support area would significantly weaken Ethereum’s technical outlook and raise the risk of a broader breakdown. On the other hand, if support continues to hold, the recent pullback could still be viewed as a healthy correction within the asset’s longer-term bullish framework. Furthermore, if Ethereum manages to hold support, form a wick on the monthly candle, and rebound from current levels, it would suggest that buyers are aggressively accumulating during the dip and treating it as a high-value entry zone.

Despite the possibility of a recovery, MarketMaestro cautioned that the stakes remain high. A decisive breakdown below support could force Ethereum into a prolonged bottoming process, potentially extending the period of weakness before a sustainable uptrend.

  • Ethereum Exchange Inflows Surge to 4-Month Peak: Price Implications

Ethereum Exchange Inflows Surge to 4-Month Peak: Price Implications

Ethereum Exchange Inflows Surge to 2.24 Million in a Single Day

The price of Ethereum has experienced a significant decline over the past week, mirroring Bitcoin’s downturn towards the $59,000 mark. As the second-largest cryptocurrency’s value dropped to $1,505, recent on-chain analysis has revealed a notable shift in activity across exchanges.

On-Chain Data Shows Highest Inflows in Four Months

In a June 6th post, the on-chain analytics group Arab Chain highlighted data from the “Ethereum: Exchange Inflow (Total) – All Exchanges” metric. This data indicated that inflows across all tracked cryptocurrency exchanges recently reached a staggering 2.24 million ETH in a single day. According to Arab Chain, this represents the highest level observed in the past four months.

The metric tracks the total amount of Ether transferred to cryptocurrency exchanges over a specified period, serving as an indicator of potential selling pressure. Elevated inflows suggest that a substantial amount of ETH may be poised for sale, which is typically interpreted as a bearish signal or an impending surge in trading activity, potentially leading to increased volatility. This is because higher inflows signify a greater available supply for distribution.

    Binance Dominates Inflow Volume

Notably, Arab Chain identified Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, as the primary recipient of these Ethereum inflows. On the day in question, Binance recorded over 1.16 million ETH in inflows, out of the total 2.24 million ETH sent to all exchanges.

The surge in exchange inflows reportedly followed a period of relative calm in deposit activity. Arab Chain emphasized that this sudden spike, after a period of quiet, carries greater significance than previous events. The analytics group suggests this could signal that Ethereum investors are preparing to realize profits or are in the process of restructuring their portfolios.

While acknowledging that high inflows are not an infallible predictor of bear markets, Arab Chain stressed their relevance given Ethereum’s current price weakness. The group concluded that sustained high inflows of Ethereum into exchanges, particularly Binance, could intensify selling pressure and potentially trigger a further downturn for the cryptocurrency in the near term.

At the time of reporting, Ethereum was trading at $1,577, down 5.35% over the preceding 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap data.

XRP Price Poised for Major Surge as Bullish Pattern Re-emerges, Analyst Claims

A cryptocurrency analyst known as Blacksea has identified a significant bullish price pattern on the XRP chart, suggesting a potentially massive rally that has largely escaped market attention. According to the analyst, the last time this specific setup appeared, XRP experienced a triple-digit percentage increase and subsequently reached a new all-time high. If historical precedent holds true, the digital asset could be on the cusp of a similar parabolic price surge this cycle, potentially signaling an end to its current downtrend and ushering in a renewed bullish phase.

XRP Mirrors Pattern That Fueled 2024 Rally

On June 6, Blacksea highlighted that XRP has once again formed a falling wedge pattern, identical to one observed in 2024. At that time, XRP was trading around $0.5 before the pattern fully materialized, ultimately preceding a remarkable 600% price jump. Reviewing the 2024 chart, XRP traded within the confines of the falling wedge, exhibiting consistent swings and compression between its upper and lower trendlines. Despite sharp price fluctuations, XRP briefly dipped below the wedge’s lower boundary. This false breakdown proved to be a pivotal moment, as momentum rapidly shifted, leading to an aggressive upward reversal and a surge past $1.5, culminating in the historic rally.

Blacksea suggests that XRP may be preparing for a comparable parabolic price surge. The cryptocurrency is currently trading within its wedge, characterized by repeated price declines and compression, though it has not yet breached the lower boundary. A breakdown, if it occurs, could mirror the 2024 scenario, acting as a final “shakeout” before a robust reversal. The analyst anticipates that such a move could ignite a fresh recovery for XRP, potentially setting the stage for a renewed bullish trend and a push towards new all-time highs. In anticipation of this projected rally, Blacksea is advising traders and investors to position themselves early and manage risk diligently to mitigate potential losses from sharp downside volatility should the pattern deviate from expectations.

Analyst Predicts XRP Price Dip Preceding Explosive Rally

In a separate analysis, crypto analyst Celal Kucuker shared a bullish outlook for XRP, but cautioned that a significant price correction might precede the anticipated rally. Kucuker pointed to a developing Cup and Handle pattern on the XRP chart, forecasting a potential explosive rally towards the 1.618 Fibonacci Extension level, which sits above $14.

Kucuker explained that before XRP can reach this ambitious target, its price is expected to extend its current downward trend, potentially experiencing a sharp decline towards $0.9. The accompanying chart indicates that further weakness in this region could invalidate XRP’s bullish structure and open the door to a deeper decline, possibly near $0.48.

However, Kucuker’s chart also suggests that if XRP holds the $0.95 support level and stages a strong rebound, the next upside target would likely be around $1.5. From there, the analyst projects a jump to $3.66, representing an approximately 282% surge from the $0.95 mark. Following this, XRP could then accelerate towards the analyst’s final target of around $14.1, a level that would signify a staggering 1,378% rally from the former $0.95 support area.

  • Ethereum Outpaces Bitcoin in Holder Growth Amidst Price Slump

Ethereum Outpaces Bitcoin in Holder Growth Amidst Price Slump

Ethereum now boasts the largest number of holders among all blockchains, significantly outpacing Bitcoin.

Data tracking non-empty wallets reveals that Ethereum has approximately 189.49 million holders, more than triple Bitcoin’s 59.08 million. These figures, released by Leon Waidmann, head of research at Lisk, highlight Ethereum’s substantial user base, even as its price has remained in a bearish trend.

Following Ethereum and Bitcoin, Tether ranks third with 13.61 million holders, trailed by XRP with 7.8 million and USDC with 6.76 million non-empty wallets.

Despite this strong network adoption, Ether (ETH) has experienced a consistent decline over the past month, shedding more than 30% of its value. At the time of this report, the cryptocurrency was trading near $1,620.

The price weakness has also impacted companies that had established significant treasury holdings in Ether. Nasdaq-listed FG Nexus, for instance, has reportedly incurred losses exceeding $85 million on its Ethereum strategy after selling a considerable portion of its holdings below its acquisition cost. The company had designated ETH as its primary treasury reserve asset and began accumulating its position around Ethereum’s 10th anniversary, with ambitions to become a major holder. However, the broader market downturn compelled it to reduce its exposure.

In related analysis, crypto commentator Michaël van de Poppe observed that Ethereum’s daily Relative Strength Index (RSI) has fallen to its lowest recorded level. He suggests that this extremely oversold condition may signal that the crypto market is nearing the conclusion of its current bear cycle, with a potential turnaround on the horizon.

Market pressures have also been evident in the activity of spot Ethereum Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs). After 17 consecutive trading days of outflows, these funds recorded net inflows of $19.3 million on June 4. These inflows were solely attributed to ETHA, with the remaining nine ETFs experiencing no activity.

Cumulatively, Ethereum ETFs still registered net outflows of $168 million for the week. Data from SoSoValue indicates that these latest figures might suggest a stabilization of ETF flows, though a significant recovery will hinge on sustained inflows across Ethereum and other major cryptocurrencies.

AI Models Emerge as Powerful Tools for Uncovering Software Vulnerabilities, Raising Security Alarms

The latest generation of advanced artificial intelligence models are moving beyond conversational tasks, image generation, and code writing. Researchers are increasingly leveraging systems like Anthropic’s Claude Mythos and Claude Opus 4.8, alongside OpenAI’s GPT-5.5, to identify software vulnerabilities. This development is sparking concerns about the implications of such capabilities becoming widely accessible.

Crypto investors received a stark reminder of the growing threat posed by powerful AI this week. Zcash developers revealed that Claude Opus 4.8 was instrumental in discovering a critical vulnerability. This flaw could have allowed an attacker to mint an unlimited supply of ZEC. However, due to the network’s design, it is impossible to definitively confirm if counterfeit ZEC was indeed minted, a situation that contributed to a significant price drop for ZEC late this week.

Experts caution that as AI software becomes more sophisticated and accessible, a surge in discovered vulnerabilities is likely in the coming weeks and months. This trend is already making its mark on the cryptocurrency landscape.

From Coding Assistants to Security Detectives

Initially, early AI models served as professional coding assistants, aiding developers in writing, explaining, and debugging software. As the technology matured, researchers began employing these same systems for code review, software auditing, and vulnerability research.

This evolution from a coding assistant to a security tool coincided with a broader shift in AI’s role within software development. Following the launch of Claude Code in 2025, Anthropic reported a substantial increase in AI-generated code across its engineering teams, signaling a move from models that merely suggested code to systems capable of writing and executing it.

Security professionals emphasize that the impact extends beyond assisting developers.

“AI is far better at reviewing code than most people and finding potential vulnerabilities in it,” Danny Jenkins, CEO and co-founder of ThreatLocker, told Decrypt. Jenkins noted that current AI systems are already accelerating vulnerability discovery, and newer models like Mythos could dramatically enhance these capabilities, describing it as an imminent “big problem.”

“It will be only a matter of time until someone bad gets access to it,” he added.

Jenkins further explained that AI is lowering the barrier to entry for vulnerability research, enabling more individuals to analyze code, pinpoint weaknesses, and develop exploits. As access to increasingly powerful systems expands, he anticipates an accelerated pace of vulnerability discovery.

“Pre-AI, cybersecurity threats and exploits were increasing every year,” Jenkins stated. “Post-AI, it’s become even faster, and I think it’s become faster for two reasons. One is that you can now use AI to help find vulnerabilities and exploits, and the number of people who have the ability to do this has massively grown. You don’t have to be a script kiddie now.”

Expanding Access and the Race for Defense

As AI systems grew more capable, companies began integrating them into cybersecurity efforts. On Tuesday, Anthropic expanded access to Project Glasswing, granting 150 companies and institutions the ability to use Claude Mythos to identify and remediate software vulnerabilities before the model’s wider release.

In April, Mozilla disclosed that Anthropic’s models had helped identify hundreds of vulnerabilities that were subsequently fixed in the Firefox web browser. Concurrently, researchers at Calif utilized Mythos Preview in their work, which led to one of the first public exploits targeting Apple’s M5 chips.

Stanislav Fort, a former researcher at Google DeepMind and Anthropic and now founder and chief scientist of security firm Aisle, acknowledged the validity of concerns surrounding AI-powered vulnerability discovery but suggested they are often misconstrued.

“The naive response is to try to gatekeep access to powerful models. I think this is essentially security by obscurity, and security by obscurity is one of the worst ideas in the field,” Fort told Decrypt. “The capability for zero-day discovery is already widely distributed across models that no one can restrict. Trying to bottle it up at the frontier doesn’t eliminate the risk; it just delays it while also slowing down the defenders who need these tools most.”

Fort highlighted a more significant risk: defenders, particularly open-source maintainers, may not have access to the same advanced AI tools available to attackers.

“That imbalance is the real danger,” he asserted. “The answer isn’t restriction; it’s democratization of the defensive stack.”

Anthropic is not alone in developing AI models for cybersecurity. In May, Microsoft introduced MDASH, an agentic vulnerability discovery system that the company claims helped identify previously unknown Windows vulnerabilities.

Crypto and DeFi Under AI’s Glare

The cryptocurrency and decentralized finance (DeFi) sectors are beginning to feel the impact of AI-driven bug hunting. Blockchain projects have long been attractive targets due to the substantial financial stakes and the public availability of much of their code. Jenkins predicts that as AI improves its ability to find software flaws, open-source crypto projects could become easier targets for both security researchers seeking bugs and attackers aiming to exploit them.

In a clear demonstration of how advanced AI models can uncover vulnerabilities that have eluded years of human scrutiny, independent security researcher Taylor Hornby disclosed the critical vulnerability in Zcash’s Orchard privacy pool, discovered with the assistance of Claude Opus 4.8.

The flaw had the potential to allow an attacker to create unlimited counterfeit ZEC and had gone undetected for years before being patched. It remains unknown whether the exploit was actually used.

“The vulnerability was present from Orchard’s activation in May 2022 until the emergency fix was deployed on June 1, 2026,” Shielded Labs, the organization behind Zcash development, stated in a disclosure. “Due to the privacy properties of Orchard and the nature of the bug, there is no definitive way to determine, using only cryptography, whether such exploitation occurred.”

This incident occurs as DeFi protocols are already experiencing one of their most challenging periods for exploits. Over $840 million was stolen from DeFi projects in the first five months of 2026, with April alone seeing over $600 million lost across attacks on projects including KelpDAO and Drift Protocol.

The rise of “vibe hacking,” where attackers use AI coding agents to automate reconnaissance, credential theft, malware development, and other tasks, has fueled concerns that AI is lowering the barriers to executing sophisticated cyberattacks.

Natalie Newson, senior blockchain investigator at Web3 security platform CertiK, noted that while April was exceptionally severe for crypto exploits, the broader trend remains more stable and below the peak number of incidents seen in previous years.

“April 2026 was a bad month for crypto exploits; there were only three days without an exploit in which at least $10,000 was taken,” she said. “However, when we take a look at the wider picture, the number of incidents (excluding phishing) has arguably been fairly consistent and still lower than a peak in 2023.”

While AI may be simplifying DeFi exploits, according to Blockaid CTO Raz Niv, the greater risk lies not in AI replacing hackers but in amplifying their capabilities. This allows attackers to focus on more advanced techniques while AI handles routine tasks.

“The good news is defenders can use the same tools,” Niv concluded. “AI-assisted monitoring and simulation is becoming essential for security teams trying to keep pace.”
