    SEC Proposes Crypto Fundraising Exemptions

SEC Proposes New Rules for Crypto Fundraising, Offering Exemptions from Full Registration

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Tuesday unveiled proposed new rules that could allow cryptocurrency projects to raise funds without undergoing the full securities registration process. This move marks a significant shift in the agency’s approach, coming shortly after a meeting last week concerning these measures was unexpectedly postponed.

Dubbed “Regulation Crypto Assets,” the proposal includes a startup exemption that would permit digital token offerings of up to $5 million over a four-year period. A second exemption would enable token issuers to raise as much as $75 million annually, provided they submit financial statements and ongoing reports.

Both proposed exemptions would necessitate disclosures, while existing federal antifraud and antimanipulation regulations would remain in effect.

These proposals arrive at a critical juncture for the cryptocurrency industry. Hopes for the passage of the Clarity Act, a significant piece of market-structure legislation, were recently dashed following setbacks in negotiations. The Clarity Act, if enacted, would have formally legalized most cryptocurrency activities in the United States. However, SEC Chair Paul Atkins had previously indicated in late July that the Commission was prepared to introduce its own regulatory framework if the bill failed to materialize.

SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce acknowledged that the proposed exemptions would not encompass every type of crypto project. She encouraged the cryptocurrency industry to provide feedback on how the rules should be further developed.

“The Commission wants to accommodate innovation on many fronts, and our rules need to be tailored to changing market developments and designed to protect investors and market integrity,” Peirce stated. “This proposal is one step on a long road toward a clear, sensible, enforceable regulatory framework for crypto.”

The proposal also introduces a conditional safe harbor that would allow an issuer to “delink” a crypto asset from the investment contract through which it was originally sold. This provision could enable a token initially tied to a securities transaction to become independent of that contract, provided the issuer meets the SEC’s stipulated conditions.

The unveiling of these rules follows the SEC’s abrupt cancellation of a meeting on Regulation Crypto Assets last week, citing an “unforeseen scheduling issue.”

On Monday, Crypto In America reported that SIFMA, a Wall Street trade group representing broker-dealers, investment banks, and asset managers, had discussed the possibility of a legal challenge to the SEC’s authority. Concurrently, the White House had reportedly requested the agency postpone the meeting amid ongoing Clarity Act negotiations.

The announcement also coincides with advancements in crypto regulations by other federal agencies. On Monday, the U.S. Treasury Department proposed regulations implementing the GENIUS Act. These regulations would generally require stablecoin issuers to obtain federal or state licenses starting in January 2027, with restrictions on crypto platforms selling stablecoins from unapproved issuers set to take effect in July 2028.

  • Google Pays $10M for Spirit Airlines Data to Train AI

Google Pays $10M for Spirit Airlines Data to Train AI

Google Acquires Spirit Airlines Data for AI Development

Google has agreed to pay $10 million for a significant portion of Spirit Airlines’ business data, including internal communications and company records, which the tech giant intends to leverage for the enhancement of its artificial intelligence models.

The transaction encompasses a wide array of information, such as emails, spreadsheets, booking records, frequent-flyer data, and employee human resources information, according to a report by CNN. Crucially, the data will be anonymized, with all personally identifiable details removed before it is transferred to Google.

“We acquired part of an enterprise dataset from Spirit Airlines, which can be helpful in improving our products and AI models,” a Google spokesperson told CNN. The company emphasized that no personal information will be obtained through this purchase.

A separate report from Reuters indicated that the acquired data also includes Microsoft Teams messages and calendar entries, alongside marketing, productivity, and operational records.

Spirit Airlines halted operations in May and has been in the process of liquidating its remaining assets through bankruptcy proceedings. Typically, airline bankruptcies conclude with another carrier acquiring the company, which often includes its valuable data assets.

Google reportedly faced competition for the data, with AI data firm Mercor submitting a bid of $7.5 million.

The sale is contingent upon court approval. U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Sean Lane is scheduled to review the proposed deal during a hearing on Wednesday.

This acquisition occurs at a time when artificial intelligence companies are increasingly seeking access to vast datasets for training and refining their models. In February 2024, Reddit granted Google access to nearly two decades of its user-generated content in a deal reportedly valued at $60 million annually. Subsequently, in May 2024, OpenAI finalized its own agreement to integrate Reddit content into its ChatGPT platform. More recently, in January, the Wikimedia Foundation announced agreements with Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Meta, and other AI firms for extensive access to Wikipedia content.

  • BitBox Addresses Critical Firmware Flaws with AI-Assisted Security Update

BitBox Addresses Critical Firmware Flaws with AI-Assisted Security Update

BitBox has released a security update this week to address three vulnerabilities in its BitBox02 hardware wallet firmware, two of which were described as severe. These flaws could have potentially allowed attackers to load malicious firmware or lock funds to incorrect addresses. BitBox states there are no reports of stolen user funds and no reason for users to be concerned, emphasizing the importance of updating the firmware.

The security update, version 9.26.5, is available for download on BitBox’s official website. A previous fix for one of the bootloader issues was already included in the July release, version 9.26.2.

According to BitBox, AI models were utilized during its internal review process to help identify these vulnerabilities. This marks an increasing trend of artificial intelligence being employed in cybersecurity audits for hardware and software.

The BitBox02 Nova edition was not affected by all vulnerabilities, and the Bitcoin-only edition does not carry the affected code for one of the severe bugs. The first severe flaw was addressed in the July release, while the second severe bug, which could allow arbitrary code execution when paired with a hostile computer before the Multi edition is set up, is fixed in the latest update. The less dangerous third issue, related to the wallet’s silent-payment feature, could have locked funds to a wrong address, but not directly steal them.

BitBox has stated that there is no evidence the vulnerabilities were ever exploited in the wild before their discovery. The company stressed that users should update their firmware to the latest version to ensure their devices are protected.

This incident serves as a reminder that hardware wallets, while considered a secure method for storing cryptocurrency, are not immune to vulnerabilities. Recent events, such as the Coldcard exploit that reportedly coincided with the theft of approximately 1,596 Bitcoin (BTC) in 2026, and a data breach at hardware wallet maker SafePal, underscore the ongoing security challenges in the cryptocurrency hardware space. These events highlight the need for continuous vigilance and prompt updates from users to protect their digital assets.

    Broader Context

The company disclosed the issues itself, with no evidence they were ever exploited.

    Why This Matters

The discovery and patching of severe vulnerabilities in a prominent hardware wallet like BitBox, with the assistance of AI in identifying the flaws, underscores the ongoing need for vigilance and timely updates in crypto security. This event, alongside recent exploits in the hardware wallet sector, highlights that these devices, while robust, are not infallible and require continuous user attention to safeguard digital assets.

  • Global Regulatory Pressure Mounts on Prediction Markets; South Korea Blocks Polymarket

Global Regulatory Pressure Mounts on Prediction Markets; South Korea Blocks Polymarket

South Korea has blocked domestic access to the prediction market platform Polymarket, with authorities determining that its services facilitate illegal gambling. The Korea Communications Commission announced the decision on August 18, following a review that concluded Polymarket’s structure encourages gambling behavior. The commission rejected Polymarket’s claims of being outside South Korean jurisdiction.

This action by South Korea is part of a growing international trend of regulatory intervention and legal challenges targeting prediction markets. France blocked Polymarket last month, and Australia and Germany imposed access restrictions in 2025, classifying the platform as an illegal gambling service. More than 30 countries, including Italy, Indonesia, and Argentina, have also restricted or blocked Polymarket.

The Korea Communications Commission stated that Polymarket’s structure, combined with wagers on events outside users’ control, “encourages gambling behavior.” The commission also asserted that technical changes or service methods do not exempt a platform from complying with domestic law, directly countering Polymarket’s argument that it operated outside South Korean jurisdiction after removing Korean-language services and disabling payments in Korean won.

The platform initially came under scrutiny in South Korea in late May when police began investigating users on suspicion of gambling. The country’s media watchdog subsequently opened its own review on July 6, leading to the August 18 decision.

Meanwhile, prediction markets are also facing legal pressure in the United States, though the legal questions vary by jurisdiction. In Baltimore, city officials and Mayor Brandon M. Scott filed separate lawsuits on August 13 against both Polymarket and its competitor Kalshi. According to CryptoPotato, the lawsuits accuse the platforms of offering sports betting without the necessary licenses in Maryland. The complaints also allege that both companies presented their products in a way that could mislead consumers into believing they were legal and regulated.

Baltimore is seeking penalties, consumer restitution, disgorgement, and other legal remedies. The city’s argument is that classifying these offerings as “event contracts” or prediction-market trades does not alter their fundamental nature as unlicensed sports betting. Kalshi is also facing a separate legal challenge from New York officials regarding its operations within the state.

These regulatory actions and legal battles highlight significant uncertainties surrounding prediction markets. Key questions remain about the exact nature of their “event contracts” and whether they constitute illegal sports betting across different jurisdictions. The outcomes of the lawsuits filed by Baltimore and New York officials are also pending, as is Polymarket’s response to the increasing international enforcement actions.

This global trend towards stricter oversight suggests a significant regulatory challenge in defining and governing prediction markets, which often operate in perceived grey areas. The increasing enforcement actions could impact the future operations and accessibility of such platforms.

    Why This Matters

South Korean authorities have blocked domestic access to Polymarket, determining its services constitute illegal gambling. This action, alongside similar moves in France and ongoing legal battles in the US, underscores a global trend of regulatory intervention in prediction markets, raising questions about their legality and future operations.

    Broader Context

South Korea’s decision to block Polymarket is part of a broader international pattern of regulatory scrutiny. Authorities in multiple jurisdictions, including France, Australia, and Germany, have classified Polymarket as an illegal gambling service or imposed access restrictions. In the US, cities like Baltimore are pursuing legal action, alleging that prediction markets operate as unlicensed sports betting platforms. These developments highlight the evolving regulatory landscape for prediction markets worldwide.

  • XRP Exchange Activity Shows Net Withdrawals, Future Price Direction Uncertain

XRP Exchange Activity Shows Net Withdrawals, Future Price Direction Uncertain

Data indicates a trend of XRP withdrawals exceeding deposits across several major cryptocurrency exchanges over a recent seven-day period. Exchanges including Coinbase, Binance, and Crypto.com have all recorded net outflows, with Coinbase showing the largest imbalance. It is important to note that this metric does not suggest future price direction.

Net wallet count, a metric that tracks whether more users are depositing or withdrawing a cryptocurrency from an exchange, has turned negative for XRP on these platforms. According to data shared by Analyst Amr Taha, Coinbase recorded a seven-day net wallet count of -14,300. Binance followed with -3,270 net wallets, and Crypto.com registered -2,680.

This imbalance suggests that more XRP holders are moving their assets off these exchanges than are depositing them. The trend is not attributed to a single day’s activity, as Binance and Crypto.com moved below zero on July 18, nearly a week after Coinbase initiated its net withdrawals. As of August 18, Coinbase accounted for 47.3% of the total absolute 7-day net wallet imbalance, its highest level since July 2024. Binance’s share of this imbalance has also grown, moving from near zero on July 16 to approximately 10% currently. In contrast, Upbit’s share of the net wallet imbalance has decreased, falling from 40% in June to around 12% recently.

This on-chain activity coincides with XRP trading just under the $1 mark. Over the past seven days, XRP’s price has seen a slight decrease of just over 1%. Looking at longer periods, the cryptocurrency is down 7% over the last two weeks and 9% over the past 30 days. The yearly performance shows a more significant decline, with XRP having fallen well over 66% from its price 12 months ago.

Amidst these observations, analysts offer varied perspectives on XRP’s future, with significant uncertainty surrounding these predictions. According to analysts like Crypto Patel, the current situation could worsen before improving, with a potential further drop of 20% to 40% suggested, which could place XRP in an accumulation zone between $0.85 and $0.65. Conversely, another market watcher, ChartNerd, has noted that XRP is exhibiting a coiling pattern similar to one that preceded a major bull run in the past, albeit on a larger scale. He predicts a potential strong breakout towards price targets of $8, $13, and $27, provided the ascending support holds.

However, these analyst predictions are subject to significant uncertainty. The exact implications of the increased withdrawal activity remain unclear, and the future price movements of XRP are not definitively predictable. The current data highlights a trend in exchange activity but does not offer certainty regarding future market direction.

    Why This Matters

The materials describe a narrow update: Data indicates a trend of more XRP withdrawals than deposits across several major cryptocurrency exchanges, including Coinbase, Binance, and Crypto. The exact timing and duration of the current withdrawal trend.

    Broader Context

Source materials place the factual news in this context: Wallet activity related to XRP has become heavily weighted toward withdrawals.

  • XRP: A Dollar This Week?

    XRP: A Dollar This Week?

XRP Price Prediction: Can $1 Be Reclaimed This Week?

XRP is currently trading at $0.9956, a marginal 0.3% dip over the past 24 hours. The cryptocurrency has been oscillating between $0.9897 and $1.0044, a narrow range that has tested the patience of even the most optimistic investors. XRP’s impressive 635-session streak of closing above the $1 mark was nearly broken twice this month, and today’s trading action places it precariously close to that threshold once again. The question on many minds is: what happens if that streak finally ends?

Bridge Exploit Causes Brief Dip Below $1

A bridge exploit that siphoned approximately $200,000 through a connection between the TX Chain and XRP Ledger caused XRP to briefly fall below $1 on August 11 and again on August 14. While buyers stepped in to push the price back up before the daily close on both occasions, the technical damage is evident. XRP’s 50-day exponential moving average (EMA) has now fallen below its 200-day EMA, a bearish signal known as a “death cross,” confirming that sellers have dominated the short to medium-term trend for weeks.

    Divergence from Broader Market Sentiment

This price action stands in stark contrast to the performance of major U.S. stock indices. On Monday, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq hovered near record highs, fueled by AI-driven momentum. This divergence highlights an increasing isolation of the cryptocurrency market from broader risk appetite.

    Institutional Interest Remains

However, institutional flows present a more complex picture. Recent activity in XRP Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) from prominent players like Jane Street suggests that some sophisticated investors are not entirely abandoning the asset, even as retail sentiment appears to be souring.

$XRP dipped below the closely watched $1 mark during Asian trading hours on Tuesday, falling to 98 cents and marking its lowest price since November 2024. This decline occurred despite positive business developments for Ripple, the payments company closely associated with the token.

    Key Price Levels and Scenarios

At $0.9956, XRP is positioned almost precisely at its most contested psychological level over the past year. The $1.00 zone has served as a primary demand area since November 2024, with XRP spending most of August oscillating between $1.00 and $1.18 without a decisive breakout in either direction. The lower Bollinger bands, clustering around $0.99–$1.01, further reinforce this area as a consistent point of buyer interest.

Bull Case: A reclaim of the $1.04–$1.06 range could open the door to the 50-day EMA zone, which is situated near $1.09–$1.11, with $1.18 serving as the next significant resistance level.

Base Case: Continued sideways trading between $0.99 and $1.06 is anticipated as the market awaits a clear catalyst.

Bear Case: A decisive daily close below $1.00 would invalidate the current support floor entirely, with analysis from FXLeaders suggesting $0.80 as the next potential technical target.

    Potential Catalysts and Future Outlook

Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse’s upcoming appearance at the Wyoming Blockchain Symposium could introduce an element of unpredictability. Any commentary regarding regulatory clarity could significantly impact XRP’s price in either direction.

Traders seeking confirmation of an upward trend should monitor XRP’s ability to close above $1.06 on increased volume before fully committing to a bullish outlook. Some analysts have also suggested more aggressive price targets for 2026, citing evidence of whale accumulation and a shrinking supply on exchanges.

The current XRP price prediction, marked by a death cross on its chart and repeated scares below the $1 mark, offers little confidence to those holding the asset through this period of consolidation. A token that has spent two years consolidating its gains requires a genuinely novel catalyst to break out of its current trading range.

Even a strong bounce to $1.18 would merely recover lost ground rather than establish new upside potential. This mathematical reality is prompting some traders to explore earlier-stage infrastructure projects where the upside potential is not yet fully priced in.

  • XRP Price Outlook: AI Forecasts $1.20 by Year-End 2026 Amidst Market Uncertainty

XRP Price Outlook: AI Forecasts $1.20 by Year-End 2026 Amidst Market Uncertainty

Claude AI has projected that XRP will conclude 2026 trading around the $1.20 mark. This AI-driven forecast, however, is tempered by current market data, which suggests a more cautious outlook and a lower probability of XRP reaching significantly higher price targets.

As of mid-August 2026, XRP is priced at approximately $1.00. This current valuation represents a decline of about 72% from its all-time high of roughly $3.65, achieved in July 2025. The daily trading volume for Ripple, the company associated with XRP, is reported at $728 million, a slight increase from the previous day’s $680 million.

Claude AI’s prediction of XRP ending 2026 near $1.20 is reportedly based on technical analysis and data from prediction platforms like Kalshi and Polymarket. The AI is said to prioritize data-backed insights over narrative-driven forecasts, indicating a higher probability that XRP will remain below $1.50 by year-end.

    Market Signals vs. AI Forecast

Prediction market data offers a different perspective. Kalshi data indicates a 23% probability of XRP reaching $1.50 or higher by the end of 2026. Polymarket data reveals a significant decrease in the odds of XRP achieving a new all-time high, falling from 41% over the past year to the current 14%. Adding to the caution, a separate Kalshi market suggests a 59% probability that XRP will trade below $1 before the year concludes.

In the shorter term, Kalshi contracts show approximately a 66% probability of XRP closing above $1.35 and a 43% probability of closing above $1.37. These near-term figures highlight a potential for short-term price movement, yet they stand in contrast to the longer-term sentiment reflected in the declining odds for new all-time highs.

Current XRP Landscape and Future Factors

The current technical setup for XRP appears neutral to bearish. The cryptocurrency is struggling to maintain the $1 level and is trading below its 50-day and 100-day exponential moving averages (EMAs), with the Relative Strength Index (RSI) also indicating neutral to bearish sentiment.

Analysts suggest that past catalysts, such as the SEC resolution and the launch of cryptocurrency ETFs, may have already been factored into the market price, as they have not resulted in sustained price increases. For XRP’s price outlook to improve significantly, factors such as sustained weekly ETF inflows exceeding approximately $2 million, XRP reclaiming and holding the 100-day EMA, or a broader positive shift in the cryptocurrency market may be necessary.

While the possibility exists for XRP to fall below the $0.99 support level, potentially reaching between $0.85 and $0.95, a substantial decline towards the $0.50 zone is considered unlikely due to existing liquidity and structural demand from ETFs acting as a floor.

    Conclusion: Navigating Uncertainty

The divergence between Claude AI’s year-end prediction and the sentiment reflected in prediction markets underscores the inherent uncertainty in forecasting cryptocurrency prices. While the AI’s projection offers a specific target, data from platforms where real capital is wagered suggests that a cautious approach is warranted when considering XRP’s performance for the remainder of 2026.

    Why This Matters

This analysis is relevant as XRP enters the second half of 2026 legally cleared and institutionally adopted, yet remains near the $1 level it has hovered around for months. Understanding the implications of AI price predictions against real-world market data is crucial for investors navigating the cryptocurrency landscape.

    Broader Context

XRP’s current market position highlights the ongoing uncertainty surrounding its future price movements. Factors such as the potential impact of pending catalysts like the CLARITY Act and broader crypto risk-on rotations, alongside the need for sustained ETF inflows and technical level reclamation, contribute to this uncertainty. Prediction markets, where real capital is wagered, offer a more direct signal of market sentiment than narrative-driven AI forecasts.

  • California Governor Primary: Prediction Markets and Polls Show Becerra Leading, But Uncertainty Remains

California Governor Primary: Prediction Markets and Polls Show Becerra Leading, But Uncertainty Remains

As the California gubernatorial primary nears, Xavier Becerra is positioned as the leading candidate according to prediction markets and various polling data. However, these indicators offer insights rather than definitive outcomes and are subject to change and interpretation.

Prediction markets, such as those on Kalshi, identified Becerra as the favorite to advance from the top-two primary and potentially win the governor’s race. On primary day, Kalshi’s primary-advancer market indicated a 95% probability of Becerra moving to the general election, while Republican Steve Hilton was priced at 4% on the same market.

Recent polling data from multiple sources also placed Becerra ahead, though the order of other candidates varied. An Emerson College poll showed Becerra with 28% support, followed by Tom Steyer at 22% and Steve Hilton at 21%. The Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies poll indicated Becerra at 25%, Hilton at 21%, and Steyer at 19%. A Public Policy Institute of California poll showed Becerra at 23%, Hilton at 20%, and Steyer at 15%.

Factors such as Eric Swalwell’s departure from the contest and setbacks affecting other candidates have been linked to Becerra’s rise in these indicators. Notably, in early April, Becerra entered the race polling at 5% and trading at less than 1% on Kalshi’s governor market, illustrating a significant shift in market sentiment.

Other candidates presented notable positions: Tom Steyer had heavily financed his campaign, reportedly spending $200 million before the vote. Steve Hilton secured the endorsement of President Donald Trump. However, Kalshi, citing The New York Times, reported that this endorsement may have negatively impacted Hilton’s chances in California.

Late primary-day movements were also observed in Kalshi’s advancers market, where Tom Steyer’s position shifted from 33% to 40% before the article’s stated takeaway figure of 39%. These fluctuations underscore the dynamic nature of prediction markets.

It is crucial to understand that prediction-market prices reflect trading activity at a specific time and can evolve as polling, campaign developments, and voting information change. The figures from Kalshi on June 2, for instance, showed traders favoring Becerra, but they did not establish a final election outcome. The variations in polling data and the inherent volatility of prediction markets mean that while Becerra appears to be the frontrunner based on current indicators, the race remains subject to change.

    Why This Matters

The materials describe a narrow update: Prediction markets and various polls indicated Xavier Becerra was the frontrunner in the California governor primary. The exact order of candidates behind Becerra varied across different polls.

Source materials place the factual news in this context: The article linked his subsequent rise to Eric Swalwell’s departure from the contest and to setbacks affecting several other candidates.

  • Chainalysis Files Bid Protest Against $94.6 Million ICE Contract Awarded to TRM Labs

Chainalysis Files Bid Protest Against $94.6 Million ICE Contract Awarded to TRM Labs

Chainalysis has filed a bid protest in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, challenging a $94.6 million contract awarded by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to its competitor, TRM Labs. The contract, for blockchain forensic software and support services, was awarded on a sole-source basis, meaning without an open bidding process.

Chainalysis argues that ICE’s decision to award the contract to TRM Labs without competition was arbitrary, capricious, and unreasonable. The company stated it had submitted a capability statement after the agency indicated its intention to procure the services from a single provider. TRM Labs has intervened in the case to defend the contract award.

The complaint was filed on July 27, and the court granted Chainalysis permission to keep the details under seal on July 31, citing the presence of confidential business information and trade secrets. Oral arguments in the case are scheduled for September 2, with a decision requested by September 10.

According to the agency’s justification, ICE conducted a market research period of approximately six days. During this window, eight companies responded, including four small businesses. However, ICE reportedly found that all responding companies lacked the necessary capabilities to meet its requirements.

The contract period is set to run from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027. The services are intended for Homeland Security Task Force investigations, including work on scams, cybercrime, and sextortion cases.

This legal challenge highlights the increasing competition and value of federal contracts within the blockchain forensics sector. Chainalysis has a history of providing tracing tools to government agencies such as the IRS and the U.S. Air Force. The Joe Biden administration has also focused on expanding crypto-tracking capabilities to combat ransomware.

TRM Labs has also expanded its government work, having previously secured smaller sole-source awards from ICE. A bid protest is a formal challenge to a procurement decision and does not constitute an accusation of wrongdoing by the winning vendor.

Key uncertainties remain regarding the specific details of Chainalysis’s legal arguments, which are currently under seal, and whether ICE’s market research adequately considered all potential capabilities. The outcome of the oral arguments and the court’s subsequent decision are pending.

    Why This Matters

The materials describe a narrow update: Chainalysis filed a bid protest in the U. The specific details of Chainalysis’s legal argument remain under seal.

  • Bybit Halts $700 Million in Potential User Losses

Bybit Halts $700 Million in Potential User Losses

Bybit Intercepts Over $700 Million in Potential User Losses in First Half of 2026

Singapore – August 18, 2026 – Cryptocurrency exchange Bybit announced today that it has intercepted more than $700 million in potential user losses between January 1 and June 15 of this year. The company revealed in a risk and security report that it blocked over 30,000 suspicious withdrawal requests, thereby protecting close to 20,000 users.

This figure represents a significant increase compared to the $300 million intercepted throughout the entirety of 2025. At that time, Bybit had implemented a new AI-driven risk framework. In 2025, Bybit also reported blocking approximately 3 million credential-stuffing attempts, with its recovery efforts benefiting around 4,000 users.

Bybit cautioned that these metrics should not be interpreted as a guarantee of future performance or as a means to rank exchanges.

Cybersecurity in the Age of Minutes

“The cybersecurity arms race has entered an era of minutes,” stated David Zong, Head of Group Risk Control and Security at Bybit. He emphasized that despite advancements, human judgment remains “at the center of critical security decisions.”

The exchange reported that AI-assisted auditing identified high-severity vulnerabilities at a rate three to five times higher than manual review. Furthermore, automation has drastically reduced the time from security assessment to testing, from approximately two weeks down to just two hours.

An automated red-team platform assessed 1,489 public-facing assets, flagging over 100 high-severity vulnerabilities. The time from discovery to the first penetration test has been reduced to under 24 hours. Bybit also processed more than 100,000 alerts with AI assistance. The platform’s monitoring now encompasses 100% of business-relevant on-chain activity, including listed token contracts and the exchange’s cold, warm, and hot wallets. Initial risk reviews now average 4.7 minutes, with 95% completed within 10 minutes.

    Handling Incidents and Asset Recovery

Bybit stated it handled 10 incidents involving listed token projects without incurring any platform losses. The exchange completed emergency responses ahead of other major exchanges in eight of these cases and detected two incidents before the affected projects themselves.

This announcement follows Bybit’s recent legal action. On August 8, the company announced it had secured a preliminary injunction freezing identified stolen assets after suing North Korea, its Reconnaissance General Bureau, and the Lazarus Group in the US District Court for the District of Columbia. To date, Bybit has recovered approximately $48.4 million and frozen over $30.5 million across more than 28 exchanges and custodians.

“Our focus has never changed: protect our users first, recover what we can, and make sure the people behind these attacks are held accountable,” said Ben Zhou, Co-founder and CEO of Bybit.

In February 2025, attackers reportedly drained roughly $1.46 billion, according to Bybit’s assessment, after compromising a cold wallet signing process. The FBI attributed this theft to the Lazarus Group, which US agencies valued at $1.5 billion and traced to over 41,000 ETH.

Industry-wide, security firm Blockaid reported that $1.1 billion was stolen across 212 incidents in the first half of 2026.
