Coinbase Expands UK Services with FCA Authorization for Equities, Derivatives, and Tokenized Stocks

Coinbase has secured a full MiFID-equivalent investment services authorization from the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), marking a significant expansion beyond cryptocurrency to include traditional equities, derivatives, and perpetual futures. This regulatory milestone allows Coinbase to offer a broader spectrum of financial products under a single regulated entity in the UK.

The authorization is distinct from a cryptoasset registration or an e-money license, enabling Coinbase to legally provide traditional financial instruments. A key feature of the UK rollout is the introduction of tokenized stocks, which are backed 1:1 by underlying US equities and include dividend rights. These are delivered via Coinbase’s on-chain infrastructure, positioning them as a blockchain-native representation of actual equity exposure, rather than synthetic products or contracts for difference (CFDs).

This strategic move rebrands Coinbase as on-chain capital markets infrastructure. The expanded product suite also encompasses multi-asset perpetual futures for crypto, equities, and commodities. This development places Coinbase in direct competition with established derivatives venues, targeting a retail audience that has historically faced limitations on leverage products under UK FCA regulations.

For UK retail investors, the immediate benefit is access to US large-cap equities with near-continuous trading hours through the familiar Coinbase platform. The offering features zero commission, 24/5 access, and fractional shares starting from £1. Additionally, Coinbase One members can earn uncapped rewards on USDC trading balances, integrating stablecoin utility directly into equity trading.

This UK expansion mirrors a similar product launched in the US, which provides access to over 8,000 US-listed stocks and ETFs with features such as 24/5 trading, zero commission, and fractional shares. According to a Coinbase announcement covered by MarketsMedia, the US launch was described as a foundational step toward a unified account spanning crypto, equities, and derivatives.

The MiFID authorization provides Coinbase with a first-mover advantage ahead of the UK’s comprehensive crypto framework, which is anticipated to be fully operational around late 2027. Currently, competing exchanges holding only cryptoasset registrations cannot offer the same regulated equity and derivatives services.

Despite these advancements, a significant uncertainty remains: whether Coinbase can effectively convert its existing UK crypto user base into active equity traders. The success of this conversion will be a critical determinant of the volume for these new services.

    Why This Matters

The materials describe a narrow update: Coinbase received a full MiFID-equivalent authorization from the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Whether Coinbase can convert its existing UK crypto user base into active equity traders.

  • HYPE Token Price Direction Uncertain Amidst Mixed Technical Signals

HYPE Token Price Direction Uncertain Amidst Mixed Technical Signals

Hyperliquid’s native token, HYPE, is currently trading around $55.50, reflecting a 22% decline over the past month. This price action has coincided with a divergence in analyst opinions regarding its short-term trajectory, with some predicting further drops and others anticipating a potential rebound.

    Conflicting Technical Indicators

The market analysis highlights conflicting technical indicators. According to some market observers, the TD Sequential indicator has flashed a sell signal, which could potentially lead to a price plunge to $50. Additionally, the liquidity sweep setup has reportedly played out, suggesting the formation of a possible local top followed by a pullback.

    Bearish Outlooks

Some analysts, like Altcoin Sherpa, argue that HYPE may not have reached its cycle bottom, indicating a potential tumble to the low $50s or high $40s in the short term. X user Ryker has even predicted a more drastic drop to $32.

    Bullish Counterpoints

Conversely, other indicators suggest a potential for recovery. The token’s Relative Strength Index (RSI) has fallen well below 30, a level typically considered oversold territory, which could signal an impending pump. Analyst Gerla noted that HYPE has been moving within a descending channel for the past month, suggesting that a notable move could lead to a significant price increase. Ali Martinez, while acknowledging the sell signal, also stated that HYPE has the chance to rally to $64 and even $75, provided that bulls maintain the crucial support zone around $53.

    Interpreting the Uncertainty

These divergent signals and analyst predictions create a landscape of uncertainty for HYPE’s immediate future. While bearish indicators point to potential downside risks, the oversold RSI and bullish price targets from some analysts offer a counterpoint, suggesting that a rebound is also a possibility. The short-term direction of HYPE remains unclear, with analysts divided on whether the token will continue its decline or experience a resurgence.

    Why This Matters

The native token of the decentralized crypto exchange Hyperliquid, HYPE, has seen a 22% decline over the past month, trading around $55. Whether HYPE’s price will continue to decline or rebound in the short term remains uncertain.

    Broader Context

HYPE – the native token of the decentralized crypto exchange Hyperliquid – currently trades at around $55.50 (per CoinGecko), translating into a major 22% decline on a monthly scale. The TD Sequential indicator has flashed a sell signal, and the RSI has dropped well below 30, indicating mixed signals for its short-term price direction.

  • Crypto Ransomware Attacks Surge, $30M Stolen in 2026

Crypto Ransomware Attacks Surge, $30M Stolen in 2026

Violent Crypto Attacks Surge, On Pace for Worst Year on Record

Physical assaults targeting cryptocurrency holders are on track for their most severe year to date, with over $30 million pilfered in the first half of 2026, according to a new report from blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis.

The report, released Thursday, documented 46 violent crypto-related incidents through late June, estimating that victims collectively lost more than $30 million. Chainalysis noted a significant increase in these attacks in recent years, describing them as “wrench attacks” in security circles, which encompass home invasions, kidnappings, and hostage situations. Criminals, the firm stated, have recognized crypto holders as lucrative targets due to the instantly and irreversibly transferable nature of their digital wealth.

A “wrench attack” specifically refers to the use of threats or physical violence to coerce victims into relinquishing their cryptocurrency. While kidnappings remain the most prevalent form of attack, home invasions have seen a notable rise, accounting for 37% of documented incidents, up from 26% in 2023. Chainalysis also observed a growing trend of attackers targeting relatives and acquaintances to exert pressure on victims.

“Home invasions allow criminals to confront victims in a controlled environment where they can compel a transfer of funds,” Chainalysis explained. “Kidnappings, by contrast, are much more difficult to execute. Attackers must expend considerable time and resources planning logistics; and the extended periods spent with victims leaves the attacker exposed for longer.”

France has emerged as a primary hub for wrench attacks, recording 30 incidents by mid-2026, more than any other nation. Chainalysis suggests this surge may be linked to an alleged breach of tax records that exposed information about high-net-worth crypto holders.

The report also highlighted disparities in how attackers manage stolen funds. Some, exhibiting a rudimentary understanding of cryptocurrency, move stolen assets directly to centralized exchanges without attempting to conceal their tracks. Others, however, employ more sophisticated methods to obscure the flow of illicit funds.

“Mid-tier attackers demonstrate greater familiarity with crypto infrastructure,” Chainalysis wrote. “They may use decentralized exchanges, bridges, MEV bots, and other DeFi tools to swap and move assets across chains. They understand that centralized exchanges represent chokepoints with sophisticated compliance programs and user KYC, and attempt to avoid or delay interaction with them.”

This analysis arrives as violent attacks against crypto holders continue their upward trajectory. In February, CertiK reported a 75% increase in wrench attacks in 2025, reaching a record 72 incidents, with France identified as the epicenter. In April, French authorities charged 88 suspects, including over a dozen minors, across 12 investigations as part of a broader crackdown on organized gangs orchestrating these violent crypto attacks.

Further underscoring the severity of the issue, French authorities indicted a man in June accused of participating in a crypto wrench attack after allegedly impersonating a police officer. In July, CertiK reported that financial losses from wrench attacks had reached $124 million in the first half of 2026. This week, five men were convicted in London for imprisoning and torturing two French crypto millionaires as part of an extortion scheme.

Beyond the wave of wrench attacks in Europe, Bitcoin ransom demands have also garnered national attention in the U.S. Earlier this year, ransom notes demanding Bitcoin surfaced during the investigation into the kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie, mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie.

  • Uniswap Joins Robinhood Chain Launchpad Arena

Uniswap Joins Robinhood Chain Launchpad Arena

Uniswap Enters Launchpad Arena with Pools.

    trade

Decentralized exchange giant Uniswap has officially entered the burgeoning token launchpad market with the debut of Pools.trade. The new platform, built on Robinhood Chain and powered by Uniswap’s v4 protocol, aims to streamline the process of launching new tokens, including memecoins.

Token launchpads have become a significant force in the cryptocurrency space, enabling users to create and deploy new tokens rapidly. This model has fueled the memecoin boom, with platforms like Pump Fun achieving billion-dollar valuations on Solana and driving considerable activity on Robinhood Chain this past summer. Now, Uniswap, a dominant player in decentralized trading, is making a direct play for this lucrative segment.

The launch itself experienced some initial turbulence. Uniswap founder Hayden Adams reported that early versions of the smart contracts were discovered by traders before the user interface was fully operational. This led to over $150 million in trading volume being processed through these pre-release contracts, forcing the development team to simultaneously support both test and final versions and delaying the official rollout. Adams acknowledged that Uniswap has, in essence, been functioning as a launchpad and providing launchpad infrastructure for over eight years, as new tokens have historically been launched into Uniswap pools.

Pools.trade distinguishes itself through several key features. It offers immediate integration across the Uniswap web app, wallet, and trading API, as well as support from third-party platforms like Bitget, Fomo, GMGN, and OKX Wallet.

The platform provides two distinct launch methods: an “instant launch,” which mirrors the functionality of existing launchpads, and a “crowd launch.” The latter is designed to promote greater fairness and mitigate “bundling,” a tactic where early participants or insiders secure large token allocations at the outset.

This move represents a strategic power play by Uniswap. Already the default exchange on Robinhood Chain, Pools.trade creates a vertically integrated pipeline for token creation and trading on the same network where competitors like Pons have been vying for market share. Notably, Pools.trade operates with a zero-fee structure, a rare offering that few platforms can afford. Uniswap can offset this by earning fees through other mechanisms, a luxury not available to many competing launchpad teams.

The impact on Robinhood Chain has been swift. Decentralized exchange (DEX) volumes have seen a 50% rebound from recent lows, and daily transactions have also increased by 50%. Pools.trade has quickly captured a significant portion of the market, accounting for 50% of launchpad volume and 40% of newly launched tokens. These figures are expected to continue climbing.

While the platform is still in its beta phase, and its ability to attract high-quality projects versus simply increasing token churn remains to be seen, the entry of the largest liquidity venue in decentralized finance into this space warrants close observation.

LBank Forges Brand Partnership with Pudgy Penguins to Enhance Cultural Relevance

Global cryptocurrency exchange LBank has announced a strategic brand partnership with Pudgy Penguins, a Web3 intellectual property (IP) project. This collaboration is designed to bridge crypto infrastructure with digital culture and consumer experiences, signaling LBank’s strategic intent to expand beyond trading services and cultivate greater cultural relevance.

The partnership reflects LBank’s evolving approach to brand development as the cryptocurrency industry transitions beyond its early adopter phase and trading-centric narratives. According to LBank, this initiative aims to connect users with crypto through cultural relevance, creativity, and accessible experiences.

Pudgy Penguins has established itself as a prominent example of Web3 IP commercialization, successfully translating its digital presence into tangible consumer products. The project recently rolled out its Vibes Series 3 trading cards at Target stores across the U.S., marking a significant milestone in its evolution from a crypto-native project to a mainstream-facing entertainment brand. This expansion underscores a broader industry trend where leading Web3 projects are increasingly focusing on building recognizable brands across real-world retail and cultural channels.

LBank, founded in 2015, serves over 25 million registered users in 160 countries and regions. The exchange has a history of engaging in partnerships with other Web3 IPs, including Nobody Sausage, YETI, and Ponke. Furthermore, LBank has introduced offerings such as LBank Predict and BK Genie AI, demonstrating a diversification of its services beyond core trading functions.

This collaboration between LBank and Pudgy Penguins highlights a growing trend among crypto platforms seeking to expand their reach beyond pure financial services and foster stronger cultural relevance. As digital assets become more integrated into entertainment, retail, and consumer experiences, partnerships between exchanges and Web3-native IPs are emerging as a key pathway toward broader adoption.

LBank aims to continue exploring the intersection of technology, culture, and finance, supporting the next stage of crypto adoption beyond traditional market participation. The partnership was announced on August 6th, 2026.

  • Bitcoin Stalls at $65,000 Amidst Pi Network Token Surge

Bitcoin Stalls at $65,000 Amidst Pi Network Token Surge

Bitcoin’s persistent struggle to maintain a foothold above the $65,000 mark is contrasted by a significant surge in Pi Network’s native token, highlighting a divergence in the cryptocurrency market. While Bitcoin has repeatedly tested this key resistance level, experiencing rejections, Pi Network’s token has seen substantial gains, leading altcoin performance.

    Bitcoin’s $65,000 Hurdle

Over the past 24 hours, Bitcoin has been fluctuating around the $65,000 level. The cryptocurrency attempted to surpass this mark multiple times in the previous business week, with attempts being halted at $65,600 and $65,400. Following a slump that drove Bitcoin to a monthly low of $62,200 on Saturday, a rebound attempt on Monday morning was stopped at $63,800. For the last 24-36 hours, Bitcoin has been fighting to reclaim the $64,000 level and has seemingly succeeded in doing so. Earlier this morning, Bitcoin briefly touched $65,000 again but was once more halted at this price point. As a result, Bitcoin’s market capitalization has reached $1.3 trillion, with its dominance over altcoins remaining just below 57% on CoinGecko (CG).

    Pi Network’s Unexpected Momentum

In contrast to Bitcoin’s stalled progress, Pi Network’s native token has experienced a notable surge, exploding by as much as 15% at one point to reach a three-week peak. The token is currently trading above $0.09. Other cryptocurrencies like GT and BDX are also showing daily gains, following a similar trend.

    Broader Market Context

The broader altcoin market presents a mixed picture. Ethereum has seen a modest increase, rising above $1,900 after a 2.2% daily gain. However, many other larger-cap cryptocurrencies, including BNB, XRP, SOL, TRX, and DOGE, are currently in the red. Yesterday’s top performers, HYPE and ZEC, have seen daily losses exceeding 2%, while CC has plunged by more than 7%.

The total cryptocurrency market capitalization has seen an increase of approximately $40 billion over the past 24 hours, now standing at $2.3 trillion according to CG. This overall market cap increase suggests a general positive sentiment, despite the varied performance among individual digital assets.

Bitcoin’s repeated inability to decisively break and hold the $65,000 level may suggest significant resistance, while Pi Network’s substantial gain indicates strong short-term momentum for that specific token. The overall increase in the total crypto market cap, however, points to a broader positive trend, even as individual altcoins exhibit mixed results. The market remains uncertain regarding Bitcoin’s ability to overcome its current resistance and maintain recent price movement.

    Why This Matters

The materials describe a narrow update: Bitcoin has been attempting to surpass $65,000, experiencing several rejections at this level. Whether Bitcoin may overcome and maintain the $65,000 level.

  • Uniswap Launches Pools.trade for Token Launches on Robinhood Chain

Uniswap Launches Pools.trade for Token Launches on Robinhood Chain

Uniswap Launches Token Launchpad on Robinhood Chain, Igniting Trader Interest

Uniswap has unveiled its inaugural token launchpad, Pools.trade, on the Robinhood Chain, offering users a unified platform for creating and trading new digital assets. The introduction of Pools.trade has swiftly re-centered attention on Uniswap, drawing in traders eager to participate in early-stage token launches.

According to a Santiment report dated August 6, Pools.trade facilitates token creation through either a four-hour “Crowd Launch” or an “Instant Launch” option. Following the launch, liquidity is automatically channeled into Uniswap v4 pools and permanently locked. This strategic move expands Uniswap’s operational scope beyond its traditional function as a decentralized exchange, positioning it at the very inception of a token’s lifecycle rather than solely managing post-launch trading.

The launch leverages Uniswap’s established role as the primary automated market maker on the Robinhood Chain. Robinhood’s Ethereum-compatible Layer 2 solution already integrates multiple Uniswap versions, alongside its own offerings like UniswapX, its wallet, web application, and API.

As previously reported, the Robinhood Chain has emerged as the largest blockchain by the number of real-world asset holders. However, trading of meme coins continues to dominate decentralized exchange activity on the network. Initial interest in Pools.trade has focused on tokens such as FRONG and POOLS. Santiment noted that many traders are treating FRONG as an unofficial launchpad token, despite no formal confirmation from Uniswap linking it to the platform.

Concurrently, competing launchpad tokens on the Robinhood Chain, like PONS, have faced downward pressure as traders shift their focus to the new narrative. Data from CoinGecko indicates that PONS had fallen nearly 14% in the 24 hours prior to writing, with its weekly chart showing a substantial decline of almost 48%. The total market capitalization of the leading tokens launched on Pons also decreased by over 12% in the last day, falling below $20 million.

The debut of Pools.trade was marked by an unusually secretive rollout, featuring hidden web pages, teaser files, frog-themed imagery, and last-minute adjustments. One X user, The Smart Ape, described it as “the most documented secret launch in DeFi,” a characterization that sparks debate on whether it was a calculated marketing strategy or simply a confusing process.

Santiment also highlighted an improvement in on-chain data for UNI, Uniswap’s native token. Exchange balances have dropped by 15.7% over the past month, while the token’s price has risen approximately 47% since early July. This suggests a reduced immediate supply for sale as interest in the Uniswap ecosystem grows.

The analytics firm further reported that Uniswap’s share of cryptocurrency-related social media discussions has reached its highest point since November 2025, following the announcement of Pools.trade.

At the time of writing, UNI was trading just above $4.00, marking a nearly 3% increase over 24 hours and an almost 30% rise over the past month. Despite this recovery, the token remains approximately 91% below its all-time high of $44.92, recorded in May 2021.

Santiment concluded that Pools.trade has the potential to become a significant new driver of activity for Uniswap, provided it continues to attract a steady stream of token launches.

  • XRP Tests Critical $1.05 Support Amidst Broader Crypto Market Caution

XRP Tests Critical $1.05 Support Amidst Broader Crypto Market Caution

XRP’s price is currently testing a significant support level around the $1.05 mark, a critical juncture that may likely determine its short-term trajectory. This price action unfolds within a broader cryptocurrency market characterized by a wait-and-see posture, mixed macro signals, and notably thin trading volumes.

    Why This Matters

The materials describe a narrow update: XRP is trading at $1. Whether XRP’s $1.05 support level will hold.

    Technical Outlook: Support and Scenarios

The immediate outlook for XRP hinges on whether the $1.05 support level holds. According to market analysis, traders have explicitly identified $1.05 as a key level for near-term bullish sentiment. A failure to maintain this support, potentially indicated by a daily close below it, could lead to a price retracement towards the $0.95-$1.00 range. Conversely, if the support at $1.05 is sustained, and the price can break above the $1.18 resistance level, it could open the door for a move towards analyst targets of $1.25 to $1.30. Such a notable move might be triggered by regulatory headlines or renewed speculation surrounding exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

The next 48 hours are considered crucial for short-term positioning, as XRP’s price action at this support level will provide significant insight. The current setup for XRP is described as being less about fundamental developments and more influenced by technical levels and community sentiment, with the $1.00–$1.05 band remaining a focal point. The absence of strong fundamental catalysts means that technicals are playing a more prominent role in driving price action.

    Market Context: Cautious Observation

Broader market conditions contribute to the uncertainty surrounding XRP. Major cryptocurrencies like Ethereum are also in a period of consolidation, awaiting potential ETF-related catalysts. This general cautiousness across the crypto space, coupled with thin volume, means that even moderate news or data prints could lead to rapid price movements in either direction. However, thin volume during a test of support is viewed as less alarming than high-volume selling pressure.

Divergent Market Dynamics: A New Project

In contrast to the technical focus on established assets like XRP, the market also presents opportunities in early-stage projects. LiquidChain ($LIQUID), an L3 infrastructure project, is currently undergoing its presale. The project aims to build a Cross-Chain Liquidity Layer, integrating liquidity from Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana into a single execution environment. Its presale is priced at $0.01487, and approximately $931,581.74 has been raised to date. It is important to note that, as with any presale, liquidity risk and execution uncertainty are inherent factors, and this is not a liquid market exit.

    Conclusion: Navigating Uncertainty

Ultimately, the current environment for XRP is one of significant technical importance, with its price action at $1.05 being a live stress test of the support thesis. Without immediate macro or regulatory catalysts, the resolution of this price range is expected to occur gradually. The base case scenario suggests XRP may continue to trade sideways within the $1.05 to $1.15 band for some time, digesting the current range without a decisive break, until a clearer catalyst emerges.

  • PI Token Price Recovers to $1 Billion Market Cap Amidst Rising Token Unlocks

PI Token Price Recovers to $1 Billion Market Cap Amidst Rising Token Unlocks

The native token of Pi Network, PI, has seen its price surge to a three-week high, bringing its market capitalization back to the $1 billion mark. This development occurs as the number of PI tokens scheduled for unlocking is set to increase significantly in the coming months, introducing uncertainty regarding the sustainability of the current price action.

In the past 24 hours, the PI token’s price moved from approximately $0.083 to a peak of $0.096, representing a 15% surge at one point. While the token faced rejection at its highest point, it has maintained a trading price above $0.09 as of press time. This recent upward movement follows a period of considerable volatility, including a drop to an all-time low of just over $0.07 less than a month ago.

Upcoming Token Unlocks and Potential Implications

This recent price action contrasts with the upcoming token unlock schedule. Data indicates that fewer than 77 million PI coins were released in June, followed by 103.7 million in July. However, the number of tokens set to be unlocked is projected to rise substantially, with 128 million PI scheduled for release in August and 132.7 million in September. The increase in token unlocks in August and September raises questions about the sustainability of PI’s current price surge. There is a potential for increased selling pressure from investors who may choose to offload their assets after a long waiting period. This could effectively halt PI’s price recovery, though the exact impact remains uncertain.

    Historical Context of Volatility

Historically, PI has shown volatility, with previous rallies proving to be short-lived. The token recently experienced a significant drop below key support levels of $0.10, $0.09, and $0.08, eventually finding support around $0.07. While it managed to rebound to above $0.08 in late July and early August, subsequent attempts to break higher have faced resistance.

The current surge presents a critical juncture for the PI token. Whether this represents a sustained recovery or another temporary price pump, particularly in light of the escalating token unlocks, is a key uncertainty. The market may be closely watching how these factors influence PI’s price trajectory in the near future.

    Why This Matters

The PI token surged by 15% in 24 hours, moving from $0.083 to $0.096, with its market capitalization returning to $1 billion. However, uncertainty remains regarding whether this surge represents a sustained recovery or a short-term price pump, especially given the increasing number of token unlocks scheduled for August and September.

    Broader Context

While most of the cryptocurrency market has seen minor gains, the PI token has experienced a notable surge. This rally occurs alongside a significant increase in upcoming token unlocks, suggesting continued volatility and uncertainty for the PI token.
