Kalshi Sues Illinois Over Sports Prediction Market Tax

Kalshi Sues Illinois Over Prediction Market Tax

Kalshi filed a lawsuit against Illinois on Wednesday, asserting in federal court that the state lacks the authority to impose taxes on prediction markets.

The legal challenge comes after Illinois Governor JB Pritzker signed a bill into law last week. This legislation not only establishes a statewide tax on cryptocurrency transactions but also creates a “Sports Wagering Fund.” Beginning July 1, this fund will levy a 15% tax on the gross receipts derived from sports-related prediction market wagers.

In justifying the taxation of these wagers, Illinois has contended that sports-related prediction markets function as a form of state-regulated sports betting. This stance directly contradicts the argument put forth by industry leaders and the Trump administration, which maintain that these markets are swaps overseen by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) at the federal level.

Kalshi’s lawsuit argues that the state has no right to tax its sports-related income, asserting that such income does not constitute gambling-related revenue.

“On July 1, 2026… Kalshi will be subject to criminal penalties in Illinois unless it either ceases to offer Illinois residents sports event contracts that are perfectly lawful in the eyes of Kalshi’s exclusive federal regulator or pays Illinois millions of dollars and submits to the state’s regulatory regime,” the complaint states.

Kalshi’s legal action mirrors a move by the Trump CFTC, which last week amended an existing lawsuit against Illinois to protest the state’s new tax. The CFTC also filed a motion for a preliminary injunction, seeking to block Illinois from implementing the law next week.

These disputes over the new Illinois tax represent the latest development in an ongoing, nationwide jurisdictional battle between states and the federal government concerning the future of prediction markets. The Trump administration has actively supported the rapidly growing sector, even as both Republican and Democratic states argue that platforms like Kalshi and its competitor, Polymarket, are offering unregulated gambling to individuals as young as 18.

With lawsuits on this matter currently active in nearly every federal jurisdiction, the U.S. Supreme Court is likely to be the ultimate arbiter of this issue.

  • Altman’s AI Forecasts SpaceX Stock Price by 2026

Altman’s AI Forecasts SpaceX Stock Price by 2026

ChatGPT AI has offered a projection for SpaceX’s stock price, viewing the recent market pullback as a potential opportunity rather than a cause for concern. The artificial intelligence model forecasts a price range of $220 to $280 by the close of 2026, with an optimistic scenario extending to $320.

    Bullish Outlook

The optimistic case for SpaceX hinges on its unique position as a conglomerate of diverse businesses operating under a single stock ticker. Currently trading at $156, the AI model interprets this as a foundation for growth rather than an inflated target.

SpaceX operates at the nexus of satellite internet dominance, commercial launch leadership, significant defense contracts, and the development of next-generation space infrastructure. Concurrently, its Starlink service is rapidly expanding into a substantial, revenue-generating enterprise. The burgeoning investor interest in artificial intelligence further bolsters this outlook, particularly given the company’s increasing involvement through its integrated AI operations.

Analysts anticipate that escalating government and military demand could provide sustained support through the latter half of 2026. Furthermore, any tangible advancements in the Starship program would offer a compelling new narrative for investors to rally behind.

Should market risk appetite broadly return and investors continue to assign premium valuations to this multifaceted business model, the AI model suggests $250 as a realistic year-end target. A price of $300 or higher could be attainable if the company demonstrates strong execution and market conditions remain favorable.

    Bearish Considerations

The primary concern for a bearish outlook is valuation. The current stock price already reflects significant future expectations, leaving minimal room for error or disappointment.

Potential headwinds include a slowdown in Starlink subscriber growth, delays in the Starship program, broader market weakness, or the typical selling pressure that can follow an initial public offering as lock-up periods expire. These factors could potentially keep shares trading within the $130 to $180 range, hindering upward momentum.

    Technical Analysis

The intraday chart reveals SpaceX trading at $156.06 following a volatile initial two weeks as a publicly traded company. The stock experienced a sharp surge from its IPO price into the low $220s before experiencing a significant decline. It subsequently traded in a pattern of lower highs as it moved back towards the $150 mark.

Such an explosive debut followed by a swift correction is not uncommon for mega-cap IPOs, as early momentum traders take profits and lock-up expirations begin to influence market sentiment.

The price recently found support around the $150 level, rallied towards $190, and then retreated again to the current $156 level, placing it in the middle of its post-IPO trading range.

Immediate resistance is observed near $165, followed by a more significant ceiling around $190, where the last attempt at a bounce stalled. Support remains at $150, the same level that provided a floor during the sharpest phase of the recent sell-off.

The Relative Strength Index (RSI) is currently at 35.91, compared to a signal line of 46.20. This indicates that momentum is well below its average and firmly in weak territory based on the stock’s short trading history. The substantial negative divergence suggests that sellers are currently in control.

Overall momentum appears fragile rather than stabilizing. Given the recency of the listing, SpaceX will likely need to maintain the $150 support level and reclaim $190 before the $250 target can be considered more than a long-term bet on the company’s narrative rather than its immediate technical outlook.

The rotation is already underway, though its full impact may only be apparent in hindsight.

Large-cap cryptocurrencies are not failing but rather reaching market caps that limit further significant upside. Bitcoin, Ethereum, and XRP have been consolidating against similar resistance levels for weeks, while macroeconomic tailwinds continue to be delayed. Institutional inflows are being postponed to subsequent quarters. Holding assets whose performance relies on uncontrollable catalysts is akin to waiting rather than executing a strategy.

Capital that has experienced multiple market cycles tends to move proactively before a destination becomes obvious, rather than waiting at resistance levels.

Early-stage infrastructure projects operate on a fundamentally different financial model. A smaller market capitalization means that even a modest rotation can lead to dramatic price movements. This asymmetry arises because the market has not yet fully priced in the value of what is being developed. The returns are generated from the gap between the current valuation and the project’s true worth.

The fragmentation of multi-chain systems incurs significant daily costs for decentralized finance (DeFi). Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana maintain isolated liquidity systems with no native interoperability. Every user transferring value between these ecosystems incurs direct costs through fees, slippage, and failed transactions.

LiquidChain aims to consolidate these three networks into a single execution layer, enabling one deployment and full ecosystem access without cross-chain transaction taxes.

The market has not yet discovered this solution, which is the core premise of its potential.

The presale is priced at $0.01454, with over $820,000 raised to date. The term “ground floor” in this context refers to its current stage of development rather than a marketing slogan.

The company’s execution remains unproven, and adoption is uncertain, representing real risks that must be acknowledged. Established assets may offer a more predictable path to a visible ceiling. This opportunity, however, provides an earlier entry point into a project that is still in its foundational stages.

The presale is at $0.01454 with just over $820,000 raised. Ground floor is not a marketing phrase here. It is a description of where this actually sits in its lifecycle.

Execution is unproven. Adoption is unknown. Those risks are real and worth naming directly. Established assets offer a smoother ride toward a ceiling that is already visible. This offers an earlier seat at a table that has not been set yet.

  • Hermes Agent’s New Pet: Useless, By Design

Hermes Agent’s New Pet: Useless, By Design

Animated Companions Arrive for AI Agent, Offering Cosmetic Charm

Nous Research has introduced animated pets to its Hermes Agent, a move the company explicitly states serves no practical purpose. Despite this disclaimer, the development has been underway for some time, even prior to its official integration.

These digital mascots are small sprites designed to reside within the user’s terminal or desktop application, mirroring the agent’s current activity through a series of animations. The pets feature six distinct states: idle when no tasks are active, running during tool execution, in a “review mode” while the model is processing, a wave to signify a successful turn completion, a celebratory jump animation for finishing a full plan, and a “failed” state for errors.

The sprites are sourced from Petdex, an open-source community gallery boasting over 3,200 options. A single installation command, hermes pets install boba --select, places the chosen pet into the user’s profile directory and activates it. The feature is disabled by default and remains dormant until actively sought out by the user, a design choice likely intended to avoid unnecessary distraction.

Users can switch between different pets by installing a new one and then using the command hermes pets select name.

The rendering capabilities extend across the command-line interface (CLI), text-based user interface (TUI), and the official desktop application launched by Nous Research earlier this month. In the terminal, Hermes renders the sprites with full fidelity on setups supporting graphics protocols such as kitty, Ghostty, or WezTerm. For systems lacking these protocols, the agent defaults to a truecolor Unicode half-block rendering, which, while technical in description, ensures the pet is still displayed, albeit with a slightly less sharp, low-resolution appearance.

This addition is framed as a way to make the often stark terminal environment more engaging and “human.”

The desktop version presents the mascot on a canvas. A shift-click interaction allows the pet to be detached into a transparent, always-on-top window that remains visible even when Hermes is minimized. In this detached state, the pet can display speech bubbles indicating its status—”working…”, “thinking…”, “your turn”—and a mail icon to signal task completion during the user’s absence. This feature is humorously compared to Microsoft’s Clippy, with the key distinction being that these pets are not designed to be helpful, thus precluding any potential disappointment.

Nous Research emphasizes that these pets have no impact on prompt caching, token usage, or the agent’s core functionality. They are purely cosmetic, residing in the configuration file under display.pet, and serve only to enhance the existing user experience without any side effects.

Hermes Agent, released by Nous Research in February 2026, has garnered significant attention, exceeding 180,000 GitHub stars and fostering a growing ecosystem of community-developed tools and integrations. The majority of the team’s releases focus on substantial features, including persistent memory, self-improving skill loops, multi-agent support, and messaging gateways for platforms like Telegram, Discord, and Slack. The animated pets were quietly integrated alongside these more significant updates, appearing in the “Media & Web” section of the feature documentation, positioned between Spotify integration and Voice & TTS capabilities. The Petdex gallery actively encourages community submissions, ensuring the current library of over 3,200 sprites will continue to expand.

  • Microsoft Quantum Claims Questioned by Researcher

Microsoft Quantum Claims Questioned by Researcher

Quantum Computing Claims Under Scrutiny as Researcher Challenges Microsoft’s Breakthrough

Weeks after Microsoft unveiled its Majorana 2 quantum chip, touting it as a significant leap forward with 1,000 times the reliability of its predecessor and a crucial step toward practical quantum computing by 2029, a prominent researcher has cast doubt on the company’s assertions.

In a commentary published Wednesday in the journal Nature, Henry Legg, a physicist at the University of St Andrews, argued that Microsoft has failed to provide definitive proof of a topological qubit, a theoretical type of quantum bit designed to be more resilient to errors than conventional quantum computing methods.

“My critique exposing flawed tune-up procedures, code errors, and omitted data behind Microsoft’s ‘breakthrough’ quantum computing claims is published today in Nature,” Legg stated on the social platform BlueSky. “In short: Microsoft haven’t demonstrated the basic physics needed for even a single topological qubit.”

Legg’s commentary directly addresses a 2025 paper published in Nature by Microsoft Quantum researchers, which detailed evidence for the company’s topological qubit. According to Legg, the signals Microsoft attributes to this device could instead be the result of experimental noise.

“The detection of a topographical superconducting phase–the basis of proposed topological qubits–is notoriously difficult because trivial states can mimic the signatures expected from a topological superconductor,” Legg explained.

Microsoft had previously stated that Majorana 2 can maintain quantum information stability for an average of 20 seconds, with some qubits lasting up to a minute. The company credited artificial intelligence with accelerating development by identifying promising materials, automating testing, and enhancing manufacturing processes. The chip’s functionality hinges on the same topological qubit technology now facing criticism. Microsoft maintains that this approach could lead to more dependable quantum computers by mitigating the errors that currently plague existing systems.

Legg contended that previously unpublished transport data underpinning Microsoft’s findings did not clearly demonstrate the superconducting state necessary to support the company’s topological qubit claim. Instead, he suggested that the measurements appeared more consistent with alternative explanations, such as quantum dot effects.

Microsoft has pushed back against Legg’s conclusions.

“We stand by our results and our roadmap,” Chetan Nayak, Microsoft’s Technical Fellow and Corporate Vice President for Quantum Hardware, told Scientific American. Nayak highlighted Microsoft’s progression into the final phase of DARPA’s Quantum Benchmarking Initiative, which he noted followed an independent evaluation of both public and proprietary results. “Skepticism and rigor are hallmarks of the scientific process, which we appreciate and have supported from various academics,” he added.

In a formal response also published in Nature on Wednesday, Microsoft argued that its measurements support the conclusion that it has successfully produced a topological qubit. The company asserted that the stable signals observed in its experiments are consistent with a topological state and would be unlikely to arise from mere noise or a gapless state, as Legg proposed.

This debate emerges as the cryptocurrency industry actively prepares for “Q-Day,” the anticipated point at which quantum computers will possess the power to break widely used public-key cryptography. Bitcoin is considered particularly vulnerable, as a quantum attacker could potentially derive private keys from exposed public keys, leading to the theft of funds. While Legg’s critique does not negate the possibility of this future threat, it does challenge the evidence Microsoft has presented in its pursuit of achieving it.

  • Anthropic Prepares Fable 5 Revival, Leaked Code Suggests

Anthropic Prepares Fable 5 Revival, Leaked Code Suggests

Fable 5, Anthropic’s controversial AI model, appears poised for a comeback, and this time, it may be included as part of standard subscription plans rather than requiring separate purchases.

    Hints Emerge in Code Updates

New strings discovered within Claude Code version 2.1.190 suggest preparations for Fable 5’s return, with indications that weekly usage will be integrated directly into subscription tiers. A key phrase identified is: “You’ve used your Fable 5 usage for this week.”

This discovery, first reported by a leaker known as “synthwavedd” on X, indicates a shift away from the model’s original plan to offer limited free access followed by usage credits sold separately. The phrase “purchased separately from your plan” has reportedly been removed from relevant user interface copy, signaling a potential restructuring of the pricing model.

Decrypt has verified the authenticity of these strings. By downloading and analyzing the macOS Apple Silicon Claude Code package, the new Fable 5 copy was found within the executable. The exact wording observed was: “You’ve used your included Fable 5 usage for this week. Continuing on Fable 5 uses usage credits.”

While these code changes do not guarantee an immediate relaunch, they strongly suggest active development and planning for Fable 5’s reintroduction. Such modifications are typically made months before a feature is released.

Amazon Bedrock Listing Adds to Speculation

Further fueling speculation, some users have noted that Amazon Bedrock’s model catalog continues to list mentions of Claude Fable 5. This could suggest that the model’s return might be sooner rather than later. A listing on Amazon Bedrock, identified as sold by Anthropic, appeared on June 24th, adding to the growing signals of Fable 5’s imminent return.

The History of Fable 5’s Ban

Fable 5, the first publicly available model from Anthropic’s Mythos class, was abruptly pulled on June 12th. The Trump administration issued an emergency export control directive, citing a potential jailbreak vulnerability that could pose a national threat. Anthropic complied with the directive but disputed the severity of the alleged vulnerability, arguing that similar exploits could be achieved with existing models.

The situation led to a public dispute, including an appearance by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei alongside President Trump at the G7 summit. Anthropic had previously faced scrutiny from the Trump administration, including being labeled a supply-chain risk for refusing to allow its AI to be used in certain warfare applications and being accused of being “woke.”

    Shifting Political Landscape

Recent developments suggest a potential thaw in the relationship between Anthropic and the administration. According to Wired, Anthropic has reportedly appointed co-founder Tom Brown as its primary liaison for White House discussions regarding Fable 5’s return, a move that has been met with a more favorable reception.

Brown has been engaged in meetings with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and National Cyber Director Sean Cairncross since mid-June. Negotiations are now focused on establishing a shared framework for evaluating AI jailbreak incidents, aiming to define clear criteria for when a model vulnerability constitutes a national security threat.

President Trump himself indicated last week that he no longer views Anthropic as a national security threat, a departure from his stance in mid-June. Anthropic responded with a statement thanking the administration for its “ongoing partnership.” While Fable 5 remains offline, the political climate surrounding its potential return appears to have significantly cooled.

If the recent code updates are indicative, Anthropic is now planning for Fable 5’s integration into subscription plans with a weekly usage cadence, aligning with initial user expectations rather than a separate credit system. The model’s official status page, status.claude.com, still reflects the June 13th suspension with no restoration date announced.

Binance Scraps Greek MiCA License Bid, EU Users Uncertain

Binance Withdraws Greek MiCA License Application, Seeks EU Compliance Elsewhere

Leading cryptocurrency exchange Binance has formally withdrawn its application for a Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) license in Greece, signaling a strategic shift as it navigates European Union regulatory requirements. The announcement, made by the company on Wednesday, comes just a week after a Reuters report indicated that the Greek financial regulator, the Hellenic Capital Market Commission (HCMC), was poised to reject the application.

“Binance has decided to withdraw its MiCA licence application with the Hellenic Capital Market Commission (HCMC) in Greece and pursue authorization in another EU Member State,” the firm stated. Binance added that it had engaged constructively and in good faith with the HCMC over several months. The exchange noted that the absence of a response ahead of the July 1 deadline prompted the decision to “move forward” in a manner that would best serve its users.

The exchange also indicated that it would be taking necessary steps before the July 1 deadline to ensure compliance with applicable regulations. This may affect some users, and Binance stated it would communicate directly with those impacted to provide clear information on the next steps.

Firms aiming to legally offer crypto services within the European Union are required to obtain a MiCA license by the July 1 deadline, or risk being compelled to cease operations in the region.

While Binance’s immediate future in the European market remains uncertain, the company assured users on Wednesday that their funds are safe and secure, though some users might experience impacts from the license application withdrawal.

“We are in the process of contacting all of our EU users,” a Binance representative said. “Those communications will explain whether any action is required, what options may be available, any relevant timelines, and where to go for support.”

Binance initially submitted its application in Greece in January, with a spokesperson telling Decrypt at the time that the country was chosen partly due to its recent economic growth.

Despite this apparent setback, the company reiterated its long-term commitment to the European market. “While we withdrew our application in Greece, Binance remains committed to Europe,” the exchange stated. “Europe is an important region for Binance, and our ambition to operate under a clear, fair, and harmonized MiCA framework remains unchanged.”

Once a crypto firm secures approval in one EU nation, it gains the ability to “passport” its license, effectively extending its regulatory compliance to the other 27 member states. However, last year, French regulators expressed concerns about the “passporting” mechanism, threatening to block firms that had obtained regulatory approval in less stringent EU jurisdictions.

A representative for Binance did not immediately respond to Decrypt’s request for comment.

US and South Korea Discuss Crypto Regulation to Bridge Global Gaps

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) met with a delegation of South Korean officials and digital asset industry representatives on Tuesday, aiming to harmonize cryptocurrency regulatory approaches between Washington and Seoul.

The coalition, representing one of Asia’s most dynamic digital markets, engaged with the SEC’s crypto task force on key issues including stablecoin regulation, tokenized securities, and cross-border coordination, according to a commission memorandum and meeting outline.

The outline noted that decisions made by U.S. regulators and lawmakers are poised to influence South Korea’s developing digital asset regulations. “Unnecessary divergence between major jurisdictions may create uncertainty,” the document stated. “Korea is a significant digital asset market in Asia, with active retail participation, growing institutional interest, and an ongoing policy debate.”

Tuesday’s meeting underscored the extent to which global market participants look to U.S. regulatory clarity to shape international frameworks, as Wall Street accelerates its integration of digital assets into traditional finance.

In the U.S., proposed legislation has sparked debate. Some lawmakers contend that the CLARITY Act could position America as a global leader in crypto regulation, while others express concerns that its passage might weaken worldwide anti-money-laundering protections.

Addressing Recent Setbacks in South Korea

A notable point of discussion was digital asset custody, following a high-profile incident earlier this year where South Korea’s national tax agency inadvertently revealed seed phrases capable of unlocking seized crypto wallets. Although $4.8 million in cryptocurrency was quickly stolen, the funds were subsequently recovered.

In the same month, South Korean regulators launched an investigation into Bithumb, one of the country’s largest crypto exchanges, after the firm mistakenly credited users with $43 billion in Bitcoin. Bithumb offered compensation to users after the error caused a temporary dip in Bitcoin’s price on the exchange.

The discussions also encompassed the regulation of crypto trading platforms. Earlier this month, South Korean law enforcement identified Bithumb CEO Lee Jae-won as a bribery suspect, alleging he hired relatives of a legislator. The exchange’s headquarters were subsequently raided.

    Classification Standards and Tokenized Assets

During their visit to the U.S. capital, the South Korean delegation indicated a particular interest in developing classification standards for digital assets. This echoes the crypto industry’s past disputes with regulators during the Biden administration regarding whether tokens should be classified as securities.

Concurrently, the group explored how South Korean regulations could be adapted to support digital representations of real-world assets, such as stocks and bonds. Earlier this year, the SEC postponed an exemption for tokenized assets due to concerns surrounding third-party issuers.

Cryptocurrency has gained significant traction in South Korea. A survey released by local regulators in March indicated that 11.13 million users were registered with regulated entities, representing approximately 20% of the nation’s population, assuming each account belongs to a unique individual.

  • Trump Scraps Housing Bill Signing, Dismisses CBDC Ban

Trump Scraps Housing Bill Signing, Dismisses CBDC Ban

President Donald Trump abruptly canceled a White House signing ceremony Wednesday for a sweeping, bipartisan housing bill that includes a provision banning the U.S. government from issuing a central bank digital currency until 2031.

    Bipartisan Housing Bill Faces Uncertainty

The legislation, known as the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, represents a rare piece of federal law with broad support across both political parties. Its aims include easing restrictions on new home construction nationwide and preventing major financial institutions from acquiring large portions of the U.S. housing stock.

The Senate overwhelmingly approved the bill with an 85-5 vote on Monday, followed by a swift endorsement from the House of Representatives, which passed it 358-32.

Digital Dollar Ban Included in Legislation

Earlier this year, cryptocurrency and privacy advocates successfully incorporated language into the bill that temporarily prohibits the Federal Reserve from establishing a central bank digital currency, or CBDC—a digital asset backed by the U.S. government. This moratorium on a potential digital dollar would remain in effect through the end of 2030.

While other major global economies, including the European Union, are advancing plans to introduce their own CBDCs, U.S. conservatives have voiced strong opposition to the theoretical creation of an American version. They argue that such a currency could grant the government access to sensitive data regarding citizens’ private financial transactions.

    Last-Minute Cancellation Sparks Questions

The ban was anticipated to take effect immediately, with President Trump scheduled to sign the housing bill into law at a prominent ceremony at the U.S. Capitol.

However, just hours before the event, the president opted to cancel, characterizing the legislation as “of minor importance.” He stated he would not sign it into law until Congress passes the SAVE America Act, a controversial bill favored by Trump for months that would significantly restrict voting rights in the United States. Republican leadership has consistently indicated that this bill has little to no chance of passage.

Should President Trump ultimately veto the housing bill, Congress would need to override the veto with a two-thirds supermajority in both chambers. The bill had already secured sufficient support to meet this threshold during its initial passage, but it remains uncertain whether these dynamics will hold following the president’s decision.

The president’s cancellation of the signing ceremony appeared to be a last-minute development. A stage had already been set up at the Capitol for the event, and mere minutes before Trump’s announcement, his aides were publicly promoting the housing bill’s potential positive impacts online.

  • Ripple’s 9-Year Clock Splits XRP Community

Ripple’s 9-Year Clock Splits XRP Community

Legal Expert Urges Ripple to Accelerate XRP Escrow Releases

Australian lawyer and prominent XRP community commentator Bill Morgan has called on Ripple to reduce the amount of XRP it relocks from its monthly 1 billion XRP escrow release. Morgan argues that accelerating the path to a fully circulating supply would establish XRP as a credible hard money asset and alleviate the persistent supply overhang that weighs on market sentiment.

While the core argument is not new, Morgan’s specific framing has brought the issue into sharper focus. Ripple’s CTO Emeritus has already signaled the company’s stance on how far it is willing to deviate from its current approach.

With 32.74 billion XRP still held in escrow, and the current release pace projecting a full circulation timeline of approximately nine years, the structural mathematics lend significant weight to Morgan’s argument. The XRP community is now openly debating whether Ripple possesses both the incentive and the flexibility to shorten this timeline.

Ripple established its escrow system in 2017, placing 55 billion XRP into 55 separate on-ledger contracts, each designed to release 1 billion XRP on the first of every month. This mechanism was intended to ensure a predictable and auditable supply, preventing sudden dumps from a centralized treasury. However, the system also created an indefinitely extendable schedule: Ripple utilizes the XRP it needs for operations and institutional distribution, then relocks the remainder into new contracts, effectively pushing the release timeline forward month after month.

Morgan’s publicly stated position on X is direct: “Ripple should release more of the 1 billion each month and not lock so much back in escrow. The sooner it is all released from escrow and the circulating supply is 100% the quicker XRP will become the best hard money.”

His reasoning is threefold. Firstly, relocking less XRP would shorten the nine-year horizon. Secondly, full circulation would eliminate the psychological impact of a shadow supply that suppresses valuation. Thirdly, a fixed and fully circulating crypto supply is structurally more credible for institutional investors who assess assets based on known fundamentals rather than unpredictable future release schedules.

It is important to note that Morgan’s current stance is not a complete repudiation of the escrow mechanism. He has previously defended it against claims of being a deliberate price-suppression tool, pointing out that XRP experienced significant price appreciation between November 2024 and January 2025 while monthly releases continued uninterrupted. His current call is for a faster completion of a process he considers legitimate.

Ripple CTO Emeritus David Schwartz has not supported accelerating the releases and has explicitly rejected more radical proposals, such as burning the escrowed XRP. Schwartz cited Stellar’s token burn as a cautionary example, arguing that it resulted in a short-lived market reaction rather than a sustained increase in valuation. He maintains that Ripple voluntarily relocks any XRP it does not immediately require.

“If you’re thinking that will have some positive impact on the price, I don’t think there’s any reason to believe that,” Schwartz stated. “Stellar’s burn had no real effect and XRP’s price tracked XLM’s through their burn. So what would the benefit of doing that be?”

Regarding the timeline, Schwartz acknowledged the inherent uncertainty. “It’s hard to predict because you have to make assumptions about how much XRP Ripple uses and how much gets put back into subsequent escrow months,” he said.

Schwartz’s position aligns with Ripple’s consistent management of the escrow since its inception. The company has framed its measured and predictable distribution as a feature, not a limitation. Altering this approach would require Ripple to determine that the reputational and institutional benefits of acceleration outweigh the risks of increased near-term sell pressure – a trade-off the company has not yet indicated it is willing to make. Ripple’s recent MiCA regulatory approvals in Europe further underscore this pattern, as the company focuses on building compliant infrastructure where supply stability is a key component of its institutional pitch.

Beyond the immediate news, the division within the XRP community reflects two distinct theories about XRP’s ultimate purpose. The pro-acceleration camp, aligned with Morgan, views the hard money narrative as the primary long-term value proposition, emphasizing a fixed, fully circulating supply that can be evaluated solely on its fundamentals. Conversely, the pro-current-pace camp sees Ripple’s controlled distribution as an asset that bolsters institutional credibility, rather than a liability.

A third concern underlies both perspectives: if Ripple releases more net XRP per month without a corresponding increase in demand, the additional supply could exert downward pressure on the market. XRP’s current price action does not strongly suggest that demand is at a capacity that could smoothly absorb larger monthly net releases.

The option of a token burn, meanwhile, appears to be effectively off the table. Schwartz’s reference to Stellar reflects a settled internal view that destroying escrow reserves would create market noise and permanently eliminate the optionality currently held by Ripple.

  • Chainlink Secures Major European & South Korean Banking Partnership; LINK Price Stagnant

Chainlink Secures Major European & South Korean Banking Partnership; LINK Price Stagnant

Chainlink Secures Landmark Banking Partnership, But LINK Price Remains Stagnant

Chainlink has announced a significant banking partnership, Project Pangea, which brings together over 50 financial institutions. Despite the deal’s structural importance, the price of its native token, LINK, has shown little movement, trading within a narrow, quiet range.

    Project Pangea Details

Project Pangea involves prominent entities such as Qivalis, a stablecoin consortium backed by 37 European banks, and UniKA, a South Korean banking alliance led by Shinhan Bank and Kbank. Collectively, these institutions manage over $10 trillion in assets and facilitate a $150 billion annual trade corridor between the Euro and Korean Won.

The initiative aims to enable near-instantaneous settlement of currency trades using stablecoins. It targets T+0 atomic settlement for FX transactions, significantly reducing the current T+2 settlement cycle to near real-time peer-to-peer swaps. This will be achieved through regulated stablecoins on a dedicated Pangea Layer-1 chain. Industry observers view this as Chainlink embedding itself into the core infrastructure of international banking, potentially creating structural demand for its services.

    Market Reaction and Technical Analysis

The muted reaction in LINK’s price is attributed to several factors. From a chart perspective, LINK is consolidating in a horizontal range, a pattern often indicative of broader market indecision rather than significant selling pressure.

Volume accompanying the Project Pangea announcement was modest compared to previous catalyst-driven sessions. This suggests that large institutional investors are not aggressively positioning themselves ahead of confirmed revenue streams from the deal. The 12-month timeline to live transactions means that any fee generation for Chainlink is not expected in the immediate future.

Technically, immediate support for LINK is observed in the mid-range of its current consolidation band at $7.50. A stronger demand zone exists below this level, which has historically provided support. Resistance overhead is concentrated at the previous swing high of $9, a level that has capped two previous recovery attempts. Momentum indicators remain neutral, neither signaling overbought conditions nor generating fresh bearish signals, thus maintaining the current range.

A confirmed pilot transaction or the disclosure of a fee model could potentially trigger a breakout above the $9 resistance, leading to a measured move towards the upper $10 range. Conversely, a loss of near-term support below $7 on increased selling volume could expose lower demand zones and significantly delay any upward price movement.

    The Pre-Sale Advantage

The range-bound behavior of LINK following a fundamentally significant event highlights a recurring pattern in the crypto market: by the time institutional adoption is confirmed and priced in, the potential for asymmetric upside has often diminished. This perspective suggests that infrastructure projects in their presale stages, before significant market capitalization expansion, may offer greater upside potential.

One such project is LiquidChain ($LIQUID), a Layer 3 infrastructure initiative aiming to serve as a cross-chain liquidity layer. LiquidChain intends to unify liquidity from Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana into a single execution environment through its Unified Liquidity Layer architecture. This would allow developers to deploy applications once and access all three ecosystems, with verifiable settlement and single-step execution. The presale is currently priced at $0.01473, with approximately $860,000 raised to date, indicating early traction without the liquidity overhang associated with public listings.
