Bitcoin Plummets as Strategy’s Stash Peaks Ahead of CPI

Bitcoin and the broader cryptocurrency market have experienced a sharp downturn in the past week, reversing the significant gains seen in late August and September.

    Market Turmoil

Last Friday, our market update noted a 2% rise in Bitcoin, with the largest cryptocurrency trading near $86,000. However, signs of weakness emerged later that night as the asset fell below $84,000. While it managed to recover above $84,000 on Saturday and reached $85,000 on Sunday, an attempt to breach the $87,000 resistance level on Monday morning proved unsuccessful.

The real trouble began in the following hours. Bitcoin dipped to $85,000, briefly rebounded to $86,600, but this proved to be a false rally. The cryptocurrency then slumped again, falling below $84,000. After another failed attempt to bounce back, BTC experienced its most significant decline since its mid-August breakout.

Within approximately a day, Bitcoin plummeted to under $80,400, marking its lowest price since September 21. Several factors are believed to have contributed to this sharp fall, including substantial profit-taking, outflows from Bitcoin ETFs, macroeconomic developments, and fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD) triggered by major transfers from wallets associated with the U.S. government.

    Recovery and Outlook

After shedding nearly $7,000 in a matter of days, Bitcoin saw a more significant rebound today, climbing above $83,000 as of press time. However, it remains uncertain whether this represents a genuine recovery or a temporary “dead-cat bounce.”

Despite the recent rebound, the weekly performance remains in negative territory. Bitcoin has fallen by over 3%, while Ethereum has seen a decline of more than 8%. XRP is down 8.6%, and cryptocurrencies such as ZEC, DOGE, LINK, RAIN, XLM, and BCH have all experienced double-digit percentage drops. Consequently, the total cryptocurrency market capitalization has fallen by over $150 billion since last Friday.

The upcoming week is anticipated to be even more volatile, with the announcement of September’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) numbers on Wednesday expected to influence market sentiment.

    Market Snapshot (October 9)

  • US Spot Bitcoin ETFs See Consecutive Outflows Amid Broader Market Pressures

US Spot Bitcoin ETFs See Consecutive Outflows Amid Broader Market Pressures

US spot Bitcoin ETFs experienced net outflows totaling approximately $729 million across October 7 and 8, marking the second consecutive day of withdrawals. This trend has erased early October inflows, leaving the month slightly in negative territory, according to daily flow data.

The outflows occurred against a backdrop of broader market pressures, including rising oil prices, increasing Treasury yields, and a strengthened U.S. dollar. These external factors may be influencing institutional investors’ near-term exposure to digital assets, suggesting institutional holders are reassessing near-term exposure.

On October 7, net outflows from U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs reached $484.9 million, with BlackRock’s IBIT seeing $207.7 million in redemptions. The following day, October 8, saw continued outflows totaling $244.1 million, including $197.1 million from Fidelity’s FBTC.

While these recent outflows are notable, they must be considered within a larger context. The five-day net outflow figure reached $512.4 million. However, the 21-day window for net flows remained modestly positive, and cumulative inflows since the ETFs’ January 2024 launch stand at around $57.09 billion. Total assets under management in these ETFs are approximately $104.91 billion to $105 billion.

Bitcoin’s price action during this period saw the cryptocurrency trading between $81,500 and $83,000. The price briefly dipped below the $81,000 level this week. It remains uncertain whether ETF holders will remain patient if Bitcoin’s price breaks below $81,000, introducing an element of uncertainty regarding future investment behavior.

Historically, Bitcoin ETFs have navigated periods of both deficits and significant inflows. For instance, in September 2026, these ETFs had year-to-date flows of $2.4 billion, a recovery from an earlier deficit of roughly $5.8 billion in 2026. The current outflows, while significant in the short term, represent a small fraction of the total assets under management and do not necessarily signal a definitive trend reversal, especially when viewed against the backdrop of substantial cumulative inflows.

    Why This Matters

The materials describe a narrow update: US spot Bitcoin ETFs saw net outflows totaling approximately $729 million across October 7 and 8, following a period of inflows. Whether ETF holders will remain patient if Bitcoin’s price breaks below $81,000.

  • Solana Surges to 13-Month High in Unique Active Addresses

Solana Surges to 13-Month High in Unique Active Addresses

Solana Network Sees Surge in Activity Amidst ETF Outflows

Solana’s blockchain has experienced its most active period in over a year, with unique active addresses reaching 1.88 million as of October 9, 2026. This figure represents a 13-month high, according to on-chain data compiled by SolanaFloor and the Blockworks analytics dashboard.

However, the surge in user activity on the network contrasts with the performance of U.S. spot SOL Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), which have seen significant money outflows.

    Network Growth Accelerates

Santiment data indicates that Solana’s network growth has accelerated by an impressive 124% since early September 2026. This translates to an average of approximately 1.71 million new wallets being created daily. Daily active addresses have also seen a sharp increase, climbing 58% to roughly 4.27 million unique wallets. It is important to note that these figures are derived from different tracking sources and should not be considered directly comparable.

Furthermore, the number of funded wallets—addresses holding a balance—rose by 38.5% month-over-month, reaching a total of 16.1 million.

Record Program Activity and Stablecoin Usage

In September 2026, the Solana network recorded over 8,400 monthly active programs, setting a new record. Programs on Solana function as smart contracts, powering applications, exchanges, games, and payment tools on the blockchain.

Daily active stablecoin addresses on Solana also reached a significant milestone, hitting 888,000 in September. This represents a substantial 269% increase compared to the same month in the previous year. The total stablecoin supply on the network has now surpassed $15 billion, distributed across more than 14 million addresses.

    ETF Outflows and Future Outlook

Despite the robust on-chain activity, U.S. spot SOL ETFs have recorded net outflows exceeding $22 million in early October. This reversal follows a September that saw strong inflows into these same investment products.

The substantial growth in stablecoin activity may offer a key insight into Solana’s evolving use case. The 269% year-over-year increase in daily active stablecoin addresses, coupled with over $15 billion in supply, suggests that Solana is increasingly being utilized for dollar transactions, moving beyond just token trading.

Key metrics to monitor moving forward include the sustained level of unique active addresses around the 1.88 million mark, the continuation of funded wallet growth at a pace comparable to its recent 38.5% monthly increase, and whether ETF flows will return to positive territory.

  • F2Pool Co-Founder’s Address Exchanges Bitcoin for Ethereum, On-Chain Data Shows

F2Pool Co-Founder’s Address Exchanges Bitcoin for Ethereum, On-Chain Data Shows

An address tied to F2Pool co-founder Wang Chun recently exchanged 235.5 Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC), valued at approximately $19.31 million, for 7,848.5 Ethereum (ETH). This transaction was flagged by on-chain analyst EmberCN shortly after Bitcoin’s price fell below $80.5K.

The verified details suggest the quantities of WBTC and ETH exchanged, their approximate U.S. dollar value, and the timing of the trade relative to Bitcoin’s price movement. Onchain analyst EmberCN flagged this specific trade, providing an initial observation of the activity.

While some observers interpret this on-chain activity as part of a longer-term strategy, such interpretations carry inherent limitations. A source claim suggests this is “the latest move in a months-long bet that sees ETH outrunning BTC from here on out.” However, attributing definitive future market performance or investor conviction solely based on this single transaction is speculative, and the metric does not suggest price direction.

The exchange occurred in the context of a recent dip in Bitcoin’s price. While the address is linked to F2Pool co-founder Wang Chun, the specific motivations for this exchange remain unconfirmed beyond the general interpretation of a potential preference for ETH over BTC in the longer term.

This event, as flagged by EmberCN, highlights the ongoing dynamic between Bitcoin and Ethereum. While such transactions can serve as signals for potential shifts in investor sentiment, it is crucial to approach their interpretation with caution. The factual basis of the exchange is clear, but the broader implications and future market movements remain subjects of analysis rather than certainty.

    Why This Matters

An address associated with F2Pool co-founder Wang Chun exchanged 235.5 WBTC for 7,848.5 ETH. The trade is interpreted by some as part of a bet on Ethereum outperforming Bitcoin, though this interpretation is speculative.

  • Binance ETH Reserves Plummet Amid Withdrawal Surge

Binance ETH Reserves Plummet Amid Withdrawal Surge

Binance’s Ethereum Holdings Hit Six-Month Low Amidst Record Withdrawals

Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, has seen its Ethereum reserves dwindle to their lowest point in six months. In early October 2026, the exchange held 3.47 million ETH, as users continued to withdraw coins at an unprecedented rate.

    Steady Decline in Reserves

The latest figure of 3.47 million ETH follows a previous reading of 3.57 million ETH. In late September 2026, Binance’s holdings stood at 3.54 million ETH, indicating a consistent downward trend rather than a temporary fluctuation. This decline is even more pronounced when viewed over a longer period. In August 2026, Binance held approximately 3.92 million ETH, meaning its current reserves are down by 11.5%.

    Record Withdrawal Activity

The outflow of ETH from Binance also reached a new milestone. On October 6, the exchange processed over 320,000 ETH withdrawal transactions, marking the highest number of such transactions on record.

    Broader Market Downturn

This surge in withdrawals coincided with a challenging period for Ethereum itself. The cryptocurrency experienced a price drop of approximately 10-11% over three days, wiping out more than $38 billion from Ethereum’s market capitalization. The broader altcoin market fared no better, collectively losing over $110 billion in market value during the same three-day window.

    Divergent Investor Behavior

While retail and on-exchange users were actively moving ETH out of Binance and into their personal wallets, institutional products presented a contrasting picture. US-listed spot ETH exchange-traded funds (ETFs) recorded eight consecutive days of outflows in October 2026, totaling around $580 million. This means that capital was exiting the regulated, Wall Street-backed version of ETH concurrently with coins leaving Binance.

Typically, ETF outflows signify investors redeeming shares and reducing their exposure. Conversely, exchange withdrawals often indicate that holders are moving their assets to more secure locations for safekeeping.

    Shift Towards Self-Custody

Research suggests that many Binance users are transferring their assets into self-custody wallets or utilizing them for other purposes, rather than selling them amidst weak market prices. Exchange reserve data is considered a key on-chain metric because coins held on an exchange are readily available for sale, whereas those in private wallets are generally less accessible for immediate liquidation.

    Consistent Trend of Holding

The decline in Binance’s Ethereum reserves aligns with a broader trend observed throughout 2026, where withdrawals have frequently reflected a preference for holding assets rather than distributing them. The October figures reinforce this pattern.

    Potential Destinations for Withdrawn ETH

While the primary driver appears to be a move towards self-custody, other explanations for the outflows are also plausible. Withdrawn ETH could be directed towards staking, other platforms, or on-chain applications. Research points to “other productive uses” as a potential destination for these assets.

    Institutional Caution vs. Retail Accumulation

The divergence between ETF outflows and exchange withdrawals is a significant development. Eight consecutive days of outflows from ETH ETFs, totaling approximately $580 million, suggest that a segment of institutional investors is stepping back. This contrasts with on-chain holders who appear to be accumulating or holding their positions.

The widening gap in behavior between different types of ETH investors is evident. Retail and exchange users seem to be maintaining their holdings, while some fund investors are exiting the market.

  • Bitcoin Surges Past $81,000 Amidst $1 Billion Liquidations

Bitcoin Surges Past $81,000 Amidst $1 Billion Liquidations

Bitcoin’s price extended its decline for a fourth consecutive day, briefly dipping below $81,000 before recovering, as the total cryptocurrency market capitalization fell below $2.8 trillion to a one-month low. The immediate concern is whether Bitcoin can withstand volatile spot Bitcoin ETF flows, forced selling, and a less favorable macroeconomic environment.

    Key Support Levels Under Pressure

Currently, $80,000 represents both a psychological barrier and a critical dividing line for Bitcoin’s recent bullish trend. While the price has not yet confirmed a definitive break below this level, the prevailing pressure makes it a more significant test than a typical intraday fluctuation. Demand from Bitcoin ETFs is now a factor in this crucial test, although daily fund flows do not establish a fixed price floor.

Momentum in spot ETF inflows had previously slowed and shifted to net outflows over the preceding four trading days. This change has removed a significant source of demand that had been underpinning the market.

    Macroeconomic Headwinds Mount

The broader economic landscape is adding further pressure. Rising U.S. Treasury yields, a strengthening dollar, and a general aversion to risk among investors can weigh on high-beta assets as they re-evaluate the cost of holding risk. The resulting pressure from yields and the dollar on Bitcoin is significant because it can dampen demand even without any crypto-specific catalysts.

    Derivatives Fuel Forced Selling

Derivatives markets provided a more direct source of forced selling. Over a 24-hour period, more than 180,000 traders faced liquidations, with total crypto liquidations exceeding $1 billion, including $940 million in long positions.

As leveraged long positions were unwound amid falling prices, these liquidations contributed to short-term downward momentum. This also illustrates how sharp market movements are not solely driven by spot selling. Broader cryptocurrency leverage and liquidation pressures can amplify price breaks, leaving the market vulnerable to further forced closures if prices continue to decline.

    Technical Outlook and Potential Downside

Bitcoin briefly traded below $82,000 a few hours ago before reclaiming the level. The failure to maintain a close above $82,000 serves as a warning that the bullish structure may be compromised, with $80,000 now acting as the next, more decisive confirmation level.

A decisive break below $80,000 would pose a threat to the higher-low trend that has been intact since July. Subsequent support levels are analytical downside areas rather than guaranteed targets, marking potential zones where the market might find support if selling pressure persists.

    Broader Market Weakness

The selling pressure was not confined to Bitcoin. Major crypto assets experienced declines of 3% to 5% over 24 hours, with Ethereum trading near $2,400, BNB around $720, and XRP around $1.40. This widespread weakness is consistent with a market-wide reduction in risk appetite, rather than a move isolated to Bitcoin.

    Path to Stabilization

A sustained hold above $82,000, coupled with a stabilization in ETF flows, would alleviate the immediate pressure on support levels. Neither of these conditions has been established by the brief rebound alone. The latest price action shows Bitcoin reclaiming a level after trading below it.

The downside scenario becomes more concerning if Bitcoin decisively loses $80,000 while ETF outflows continue, long liquidations persist, Treasury yields climb, and the dollar strengthens further. In such a scenario, the $75,000 area would come into focus.

For now, Bitcoin’s $80,000 support remains a risk line rather than a confirmed breakdown. The next signals to watch will be whether the price can hold above $82,000 and whether selling pressure abates. Without such stabilization, ETF outflows and leveraged positioning leave the market exposed to another test of its structural floor.

  • Ripple Prime Ventures into Leveraged ETF Financing Market

Ripple Prime Ventures into Leveraged ETF Financing Market

Ripple Prime is expanding its services into the leveraged exchange-traded fund (ETF) financing market by offering total-return swaps to fund managers. This strategic move, building on the company’s acquisition of Hidden Road, aims to capture recurring fees from financing charges in a segment traditionally dominated by banks, while also exposing Ripple to market risks associated with the underlying assets.

The U.S. leveraged ETF market is substantial, comprising 593 funds with over $256 billion in assets, according to Morningstar Direct data cited in a Wall Street Journal report. Ripple Prime’s entry into this market tests whether a firm originating from the crypto industry can successfully compete in a balance-sheet-intensive segment long held by traditional financial institutions.

    Strategic Expansion and Acquisition

Following its acquisition of Hidden Road, which was completed in 2025, Ripple’s prime brokerage business was established as Ripple Prime. The acquisition, announced in April 2025 for $1.25 billion, integrated Hidden Road’s multi-asset capabilities in clearing, brokerage, and financing. Ripple Prime’s services were recently highlighted with an announcement on Tuesday, October 6, detailing its brokerage, clearing, and financing offerings for Brevan Howard.

    Financing Mechanism and Revenue Potential

Leveraged ETFs utilize derivatives, including total-return swaps, to magnify daily investment performance. Ripple Prime’s offering of these swaps allows fund managers to finance their ETF positions. For example, the Tradr 2X Long SDNK Daily ETF pays Ripple a rate tied to the overnight bank funding rate plus four percentage points. As of Wednesday, October 7, this translated to approximately 8% of the fund’s assets on an annualized basis, representing a source of recurring fees for Ripple Prime.

    Inherent Risks and Competitive Landscape

However, this expansion also introduces market risks. Providing swap financing means Ripple Prime is exposed to the performance of the underlying assets financed by these swaps. While the move diversifies Ripple’s business beyond traditional crypto services, it enters a competitive landscape where firms like Jane Street and Clear Street are also gaining traction.

    Implications for XRP

The implications for XRP, the cryptocurrency associated with Ripple, appear limited. The news is viewed more as a long-term ecosystem development rather than a direct bullish catalyst for XRP’s price. Unless Ripple Prime’s expansion demonstrably creates measurable demand for XRP, increases its token utility, or triggers fresh buying interest, the immediate price impact on XRP is expected to be constrained. XRP is currently trading around $1.41, with little immediate sign of a positive market reaction to this news.

Ripple’s broader institutional strategy includes other markets such as custody and tokenization-related partnerships, exemplified by its work with Meritz Securities in South Korea. However, it is important to note that XRP does not underlie or collateralize these ETF swaps. Investors are advised to monitor XRP’s trading volume, market sentiment, and price action around key resistance levels before interpreting this expansion as a direct driver of a rally.

The success of Ripple Prime in this new venture hinges on its ability to navigate the complexities of balance-sheet-intensive financing and compete effectively against established players, while managing the inherent market risks associated with leveraged ETF financing.

    Broader Context

Source materials place the factual news in this context: The U.S. leveraged ETF market has 593 funds and more than $256 billion in assets, including XRP, and Ripple Prime is making itself known in the news by entering the financing chain, providing total-return swaps to fund managers.

  • Ripple Expands Prime Brokerage to Offer Swap Financing for Leveraged ETFs

Ripple Expands Prime Brokerage to Offer Swap Financing for Leveraged ETFs

Ripple is expanding its prime brokerage services to offer swap financing for leveraged ETFs, entering a traditional finance sector traditionally dominated by banks. This strategic move, facilitated by the acquisition of Hidden Road (now Ripple Prime), positions the company to compete in a fee-heavy segment of the market.

According to a Wall Street Journal report, Ripple entered the leveraged ETF swap financing business last year through its $1.25 billion acquisition of Hidden Road. The platform is now actively engaging with ETF providers and seeking business from other investment managers, including hedge funds. On October 6, Ripple Prime announced its prime brokerage, clearing, and financing services for Brevan Howard, adding another hedge fund to its client roster. Noel Kimmel, president of Ripple Prime, described swap financing as a “growing and meaningful part” of the business.

Leveraged ETFs use derivative instruments, such as total return swaps, to amplify the daily performance of stocks or indexes. These swaps are provided by banks or brokers at a cost, with the provider typically hedging the exposure by purchasing the underlying security. Morningstar Direct data, quoted by the Wall Street Journal, indicates that there are 593 US leveraged ETFs with over $256 billion in assets. Single-stock leveraged funds constitute a significant portion of this market, with 426 such ETFs, a category that regulators first approved in 2022.

The competitive landscape is shifting as banks face tighter capital limits on the risk they can assume. This has created an opening for nonbank firms like Jane Street and Clear Street, which are also increasing their presence in this space. Ripple’s expansion into swap financing signifies a strategic diversification beyond its core cryptocurrency trading and payments operations, moving its prime brokerage into a financing business that has historically generated substantial fees for Wall Street firms.

One example illustrating the fee potential is the Tradr 2X Long SDNK Daily ETF. This fund pays Ripple a fee tied to the overnight bank funding rate plus four percentage points. As of October 7, this amounted to approximately 8% of the fund’s assets on an annualized basis. These financing charges are distinct from management fees and are incorporated into the ETF’s net asset value.

However, the Wall Street Journal report also highlights potential risks. If leveraged ETFs are held by investors over extended periods, the compounding swap costs, combined with market movements, can become very expensive for returns. Furthermore, swap financing carries inherent risks for providers. A substantial one-day decline in an underlying stock could deplete a leveraged ETF’s equity, potentially leading to losses for its counterparty. Providers mitigate this exposure by hedging through other asset managers or market makers.

As CryptoPotato reported yesterday, Ripple Prime has expanded its relationship with Brevan Howard to encompass multi-asset prime brokerage, clearing, and financing. This development follows Hidden Road’s earlier expansion into US institutional crypto OTC swaps, cross-margining, and financing after its acquisition by Ripple.

It is important to note that the exact total value of swap financing provided by Ripple remains undisclosed. Additionally, the specific risks Ripple faces in this venture and the effectiveness of its hedging strategies are not fully detailed. The long-term impact of compounding swap costs on leveraged ETF returns for investors also presents an area of uncertainty.

    Why This Matters

The materials describe a narrow update: Ripple, through its acquisition of Hidden Road (now Ripple Prime), is providing swap financing to leveraged ETF providers. The exact total value of swap financing provided by Ripple.

    Broader Context

Source materials place the factual news in this context: Ripple is moving deeper into Wall Street’s leveraged ETF business, with its prime brokerage arm providing swap financing to funds that use derivatives to amplify bets on stocks and indexes.

Bitwise CEO: Dogecoin ETF Failure “Pathetic,” Buyers Differ from Crypto Retail

Bitwise CEO: Dogecoin ETF’s Demise Highlights Divergent Investor Preferences, AI and Solana Lead the Way

New York, NY – Hunter Horsley, co-founder and CEO of Bitwise Asset Management, has described the swift closure of the firm’s Dogecoin ETF as “tragic,” attributing its failure to a fundamental disconnect between the preferences of traditional ETF investors and cryptocurrency app users. This distinction, Horsley argues, explains why established digital assets have found greater traction in the ETF market.

The Bitwise Dogecoin ETF (BWOW), launched on the New York Stock Exchange in November 2023, is slated to cease trading on October 14th. Data from SoSoValue indicates that as of October 7th, the fund’s total assets under management stood at a mere $726,000, with monthly trading volume in September reaching only $51,000.

“I like Dogecoin, and I own Dogecoin,” Horsley stated. “I think it’s authentic in its positioning. Historically, it was a meme coin with no utility, but it represents a culture, and as an asset, it makes sense. But as an ETF, it just didn’t gain traction.”

In stark contrast, the Bitwise Solana Staking ETF (BBSOL) has seen significant success, accumulating $1.3 billion in assets under management. Horsley views this as investors betting on Solana’s ecosystem, recognizing its potential benefits from tokenization, stablecoins, and on-chain vaults.

Horsley’s observations on the BWOW’s performance point to a “delta” in behavior between ETF investors and crypto app users. ETF buyers, he explained, gravitate towards assets that have demonstrated market validation, while crypto app users are more readily swayed by emerging trends and community sentiment.

“ETF users just don’t want to put money into Dogecoin, but that could change over time,” Horsley remarked, pushing back against the notion that Bitwise misjudged its market positioning. He characterized crypto ETFs as a “pipeline” designed to grant traditional investors access to the crypto market, rather than a direct replication of crypto’s inherent risk appetite.

Horsley emphasized a symbiotic relationship between cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence, positing that crypto is reshaping financial services into software, while AI enables machines to perform tasks previously done by humans. As AI advances, he predicts, its preferred financial infrastructure will be “millisecond-level smart contracts, not bank tellers behind glass.”

The recently launched Bitwise NEAR ETF (NRR) exemplifies this intersection of AI and crypto. NEAR Protocol’s NEAR Intents feature allows users or AI agents to conduct cross-chain asset exchanges and transfers without the need for manual bridging. Horsley anticipates substantial growth for NEAR as AI agents gain greater financial capabilities.

Public filings reveal Bitwise’s strategic focus on AI, with applications submitted for two AI-related ETFs: the Bitwise AI Network Defense ETF in August and the Bitwise AI Bond ETF in September.

When asked for investment recommendations for the next five years, Horsley endorsed the Bitwise 10 Crypto Index ETF (BITW) and the Bitwise Crypto Innovators ETF (BITQ). His reasoning: “The lesson I’ve learned over the past few years is that the market is constantly changing. BITW today holds Hyperliquid, Zcash, and Uniswap. If the market shifts in the future, the fund will automatically adjust its holdings.”

Asia Crypto Boom: China P2P Wallets Skyrocket, Korea’s $450B Economy

China Sees Surge in Peer-to-Peer Stablecoin Use Amidst Bans

Despite ongoing regulatory restrictions, China has experienced a dramatic increase in peer-to-peer (P2P) stablecoin transactions. New data reveals a 43-fold surge in unique wallets engaging in these P2P stablecoin transfers between the first quarter of 2024 and the second quarter of 2026, according to blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis.

During the 2026 reporting period, which spanned from July 2025 to June 2026, Chainalysis recorded $104.1 billion in transactions involving China’s self-custodied stablecoin holdings, spread across 18.1 million transfers. The firm noted that stablecoin holdings turned over 33.2 times annually, significantly higher than the global average of 9.3 times, suggesting users are treating stablecoins as a form of working capital.

Chainalysis’s latest report estimates China’s cryptocurrency economy to be worth at least $176 billion. Domestic P2P activity constituted 59.1% of this total, a substantial increase from its share in the 2025 reporting period. March 2026 saw the largest monthly increase in China’s domestic stablecoin transfer volume, adding $4.9 billion.

South Korea Leads East Asia’s Crypto Economy, Faces Exchange Challenges

South Korea boasts the largest cryptocurrency economy in East Asia, valued at $449.1 billion, according to Chainalysis. The country’s crypto market saw a 12.3% growth in the year leading up to June 2026, with retail traders showing a notable interest in AI-linked tokens.

However, the first half of 2026 proved challenging for South Korean crypto exchanges. Operating profits plummeted by 78% as trading activity, market valuations, and customer deposits declined. The Korea Financial Intelligence Unit (KoFIU) reported a 44% drop in average daily trading volume at domestic virtual asset exchanges compared to the previous six months. Market capitalization fell by 33%, and won-denominated deposits decreased by 35%. Exchange sales declined 41% over the same period, despite a slight 0.4% increase in the number of eligible trading accounts.

In a separate development, tokenization platform Securitize saw its shares rally significantly following the announcement of a partnership with South Korean technology firm LG CNS. The two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop tokenized assets and digital asset infrastructure for South Korean financial institutions. This collaboration positions Securitize to capitalize on South Korea’s upcoming framework for tokenized securities, with proposed rules from the Financial Services Commission expected to take effect in February 2027.

Singapore Attracts Institutional Digital Asset Services

Standard Chartered, a multinational bank headquartered in London, has announced plans to offer digital asset custody services to institutional clients in Singapore. The bank will provide custody for select cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, and tokenized real-world assets to institutional and accredited corporate investors. Standard Chartered highlighted Singapore’s status as a “leading financial and innovation hub” as integral to its global strategy.

Singapore-licensed crypto exchange Independent Reserve has introduced cross-border payment tools, enabling businesses to conduct fiat and stablecoin payouts.
