Zcash Plunges 50% on Old Secret; Recovery Underway

Zcash Completes Emergency Upgrade to Patch Four-Year-Old Critical Vulnerability

Zcash has successfully implemented a two-phase emergency network upgrade to address a critical vulnerability within its Orchard shielded pool. The flaw, which remained undetected for four years, theoretically could have allowed for the creation of unlimited, undetectable counterfeit ZEC. Its disclosure triggered a significant price collapse before the network’s rapid response began to restore confidence and drive a recovery in ZEC’s value.

    Developer Confirms Network Security

Josh Swihart, CEO of Electric Coin Company, the primary developer of Zcash, confirmed on X on June 7 that the fix was complete and the network was secure. His statement coincided with ZEC’s initial recovery from the lows experienced after the vulnerability was revealed.

The announcement came at a crucial juncture for the cryptocurrency. ZEC had plummeted approximately 50%, from a June 4 peak of $624 to $309 on June 5, erasing over $3 billion from its market capitalization, according to a timeline documented by the BitMEX Blog.

Discovery and Nature of the Zcash Bug

The vulnerability was identified on May 29, 2026, by security researcher Taylor Hornby during a protocol audit commissioned by Shielded Labs. Hornby pinpointed a “soundness” flaw in Zcash’s Orchard zero-knowledge proof circuit. Specifically, an under-constrained element within the Orchard Action circuit could have permitted invalid state transitions, posing a theoretical risk of double-spending within the shielded pool.

The discovery was made using Anthropic’s Claude Opus 4.8 AI model in conjunction with a custom analysis suite, as detailed in Shielded Labs’ official disclosure. Hornby and the AI developed a functional proof-of-concept that successfully generated unlimited, entirely undetectable counterfeit ZEC in a local test environment. An independent analyst described it as “about the worst kind of bug a cryptocurrency can have,” according to Yahoo Finance’s reporting on the disclosure.

Crucially, the flaw did not enable inflation of the total ZEC supply on the live network. Zcash’s internal accounting mechanism, which monitors the total value entering and exiting the shielded pool, confirmed that no unauthorized value creation occurred while the flaw was active, according to Shielded Labs’ official statement. However, the organization acknowledged that due to the privacy features of Orchard and the nature of the bug, there is no definitive cryptographic method to ascertain whether exploitation had occurred. This inherent limitation of the shielded pool’s design became a source of market concern. The vulnerability had been present since Orchard’s activation in May 2022, a period of four years, without detection.

    The Emergency Response

Zcash’s development ecosystem responded with remarkable speed. The first phase involved an emergency soft fork, deployed via Zebra 4.5.3 and activated at block 3,363,426 on June 2. This measure temporarily disabled all Orchard transactions, effectively removing the attack vector while developers prepared the permanent solution. Transparent and Sapling transactions continued to operate without interruption, as announced by the Zcash Foundation on X.

The second phase was implemented on June 3 through the NU6.2 hard fork, activated at block 3,364,600 via Zebra 5.0.0. This upgrade introduced a corrected circuit and a new verifying key, patching the flaw and re-enabling Orchard transactions, according to the Foundation.

The market’s initial reaction to the hard fork was positive. ZEC saw an increase from $544 on June 2 to $603 on June 3, reaching $624 on June 4, its highest point since the rally began. Subsequently, Arthur Hayes publicly announced his exit from his entire ZEC position on June 4, the same day as the price peak. He cited five macroeconomic factors, including rising energy prices and upcoming AI IPOs, in an X post that was covered in prior reporting. The combination of Hayes’ departure and lingering uncertainty about potential exploitation prior to the patch led to ZEC’s drop to $309 on June 5.

    The Recovery and Its Implications

Swihart’s X post on June 7, which reassured the community that the total ZEC supply remained intact and that the network had navigated the emergency without confirmed exploitation, appears to have catalyzed the ongoing recovery. The swift two-phase response, coupled with the Foundation’s transparent disclosure and Swihart’s direct communication, provided the market with the necessary confidence signal.

This development represents a pivotal and challenging moment for Zcash’s long-term standing in the nascent cryptocurrency sector. A four-year-old vulnerability in the Orchard pool—the very component central to ZEC’s core privacy value proposition—has been successfully patched without confirmed exploitation.

However, the inherent irony that the privacy features making Zcash valuable also make it impossible to definitively confirm whether the vulnerability was ever exploited will likely remain a point of discussion for the community as the recovery progresses. As of this writing, ZEC is trading around $430, showing a recovery from its June 5 lows as confidence in the network’s security response gradually rebuilds.

Dogecoin Hovers Near Key Support as Analysts Eye Potential for Next Major Move

Dogecoin (DOGE) saw a modest 2% gain on Monday, trading near $0.086 and holding just above a significant support zone. However, new analysis suggests the original meme coin is at a critical juncture.

Technical Patterns and On-Chain Data Signal Strong Demand

Long-term technical patterns and on-chain data indicate a robust demand area that has historically underpinned substantial market movements. Crypto analyst Ali Martinez noted that DOGE’s price action has historically followed multi-year consolidation channels since its inception. These periods involve extended ranges that compress volatility and redistribute supply before larger bull cycles commence. Currently, Dogecoin is trading above $0.081, which marks the lower mid-range boundary of a parallel channel that has been active since 2021.

On-Chain Metrics Highlight Support at $0.081

Martinez pointed to on-chain data to underscore the strength of this support level. The UTXO Realized Price Distribution (URPD) metric, which tracks the price points at which circulating tokens were last transacted, reveals a significant concentration of supply at $0.081. Over 30 billion DOGE tokens were last moved at this price, forming what Martinez describes as a major historical cluster of spot exposure, providing both psychological and structural support.

Adding to this bullish sentiment, whale activity over the past week shows an accumulation of more than 200 million DOGE tokens, signaling sustained buying interest in this price vicinity.

    Strategic Accumulation Levels Identified

Martinez advocates for a dollar-cost averaging approach rather than attempting to time short-term price fluctuations or pinpoint exact bottoms. His strategy involves gradually building positions across two key levels. The primary level is $0.081, aligning with the URPD concentration and the mid-range of the long-term channel. The secondary level is $0.058, representing the lower boundary of the multi-year channel structure.

    Potential Scenarios for Dogecoin

Martinez outlined two potential scenarios. In the first, if the $0.081 level continues to absorb selling pressure, Dogecoin could stabilize and trend back towards higher levels within its broader channel, bolstered by ongoing whale demand. The second scenario posits that if broader macroeconomic conditions drive the price below $0.081 on a weekly close, the asset would enter a deeper valuation phase, with the next significant support anticipated at $0.058.

    CVDD Signal Suggests Bottoming Phase

In a separate analysis, Joao Wedson of Alphractal stated that DOGE is currently in a price bottoming phase, as indicated by the CVDD Signal, which has historically marked major market bottoms. Wedson observed that strong reversals have consistently followed instances where Dogecoin approached or briefly traded below this level. He added that the next signal would be triggered if DOGE falls below $0.08.

Bank of America Expands Global Payments Strategy

Bank of America is bolstering its global payments strategy with an intensified focus on enhancing cross-border transaction capabilities, underscoring the escalating significance of seamless international money transfers in contemporary finance. As one of the world’s preeminent financial institutions, and a company frequently cited in discussions around Ripple and payment innovation, Bank of America’s latest initiative highlights the ongoing evolution of global settlement infrastructure.

Banking Giants Embrace Hybrid Payment Models

Bank of America, a known partner of Ripple, is reportedly preparing to introduce a new cross-border payments service that will integrate SWIFT. An analyst, identified as SMQKE on X, has observed that rather than completely replacing existing systems, banks are increasingly adopting hybrid payment models that leverage both Ripple and SWIFT for international transactions. This dual-framework approach offers a practical solution for financial institutions, as RippleNet can be integrated into existing banking infrastructure much like a traditional payment system.

SMQKE posits that Ripple’s collaboration with Bank of America could pave the way for XRP to gain access to the bank’s extensive global payment network. This arrangement would allow banks to maintain their SWIFT connectivity for broad international reach while simultaneously utilizing XRP through RippleNet as a source of on-demand liquidity. Consequently, Bank of America’s new cross-border real-time payment service, operating within this hybrid model, is expected to further solidify the groundwork for XRP’s integration into the bank’s core payment infrastructure.

    XRP Ledger’s Institutional Compliance Advantages

The assertion that XRP is unsuitable for tokenization is technically unfounded, according to proponents. Crypto analyst CharuSan has highlighted that the XRP Ledger, with its institutional-grade compliance features, inherent security architecture, and deep liquidity capabilities, stands out as one of the most secure and appropriate networks for tokenization in the current market.

Unlike the Ethereum network, which requires the development of external smart contract code, such as ERC-20 tokens, to tokenize an asset, the XRP Ledger embeds tokenization directly into the core code of its Native Issued Assets. This eliminates the need for custom smart contract development, a common source of vulnerabilities, exploits, and cyberattacks. CharuSan explains that by integrating tokenization at the protocol level, the XRP Ledger enables the secure issuance and transfer of real-world assets like real estate, stocks, and bonds within seconds, without exposing institutions to smart contract risks.

Furthermore, regulatory compliance remains a critical prerequisite for institutional adoption. Wall Street and institutional banks are mandated to adhere to stringent Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations, including controls over who can hold tokenized assets. The XRP Ledger addresses these requirements natively by empowering issuers to restrict access and freeze suspicious accounts when necessary, ensuring that only authorized participants can receive tokens at the protocol level.

  • Apple Unleashes AI-Powered Siri

    Apple Unleashes AI-Powered Siri

Apple Unveils Revamped Siri, Positioning AI as Core to its Ecosystem

CUPERTINO, Calif. – Apple on Monday unveiled a significantly re-engineered Siri, a voice assistant now capable of holding natural conversations, understanding personal context, analyzing images, and executing more complex tasks across the company’s suite of devices. The announcement, made at the annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), represents the most substantial overhaul of Siri since its 2011 debut.

This major update arrives after a period of challenges for Apple’s AI ambitions, including a troubled rollout of its broader “Apple Intelligence” platform that led to delayed features and scaled-back messaging at WWDC 2025. These setbacks had raised questions about the iPhone maker’s standing against competitors like OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic in the rapidly evolving AI assistant race.

The introduction of the new Siri also coincides with Tim Cook’s final keynote address as Apple’s chief executive before John Ternus assumes the CEO role on September 1.

“On a personal note, some of the greatest highlights of my time as CEO have been events like this, sharing powerful new tools with all of you, and then seeing what you create with them,” Cook remarked. “It has been a constant reminder that imagination has no limits.”

The revamped Siri is positioned as the central component of Apple Intelligence, the company’s overarching artificial intelligence platform designed to integrate seamlessly across its devices and services. This announcement follows online leaks of iOS 27 updates in May.

Apple stated that the new Siri can leverage a user’s personal context, interpret on-screen content, search through messages, emails, photos, and files, and answer queries by accessing information from the internet.

During live demonstrations, Apple showcased Siri drafting emails, editing and sharing photos, setting reminders, adding notes, and transferring information between applications. Users will also be able to ask follow-up questions and engage in continuous conversations within a chatbot-like interface. Furthermore, Siri AI will be able to perform actions across different apps through expanded system-wide integrations.

The rollout includes a dedicated Siri app that will store conversation history and synchronize it across devices via iCloud. This functionality will allow users to, for instance, initiate a conversation on a Mac and seamlessly continue it on an iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, or Vision Pro.

Apple explained that Siri AI operates on a new Apple Intelligence architecture, which combines on-device AI models with Private Cloud Compute. The latter handles more demanding requests by utilizing Apple-operated servers.

This announcement comes as Apple increasingly embraces partnerships with external AI developers. The company has already announced integrations with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and an earlier agreement to incorporate Google’s Gemini into its AI offerings. Apple emphasized that data processed through Private Cloud Compute is not stored or accessible by the company and can be independently verified by external security researchers.

The Siri overhaul is part of a broader expansion of Apple Intelligence across other Apple products, including Safari. The web browser will now utilize AI to organize tabs by topic, monitor webpages for changes such as price drops or product restocks via a feature called “Notify Me,” and generate extensions from natural-language descriptions. The Passwords app will also gain the ability to navigate websites and upgrade weak passwords on behalf of users.

Apple also introduced updates to Photos and its image generation tools, featuring new editing capabilities that can reframe photos, expand images beyond their original boundaries, and remove unwanted objects. The company also unveiled a redesigned Image Playground capable of generating photorealistic images. Both edited and generated images will incorporate SynthID watermarks to identify them as AI-generated or modified.

Additional Apple Intelligence features are slated for Messages, Mail, Calendar, Phone, Shortcuts, and Home. Messages will offer suggestions for actions like creating reminders from conversations, Mail will be able to perform actions through third-party apps, and Calendar will generate events from natural-language descriptions. The Home app will receive video summaries and search tools for security camera footage, while Shortcuts will enable the creation of automations from plain-language instructions.

Siri’s visual capabilities are also being expanded. A new mode on iPhones will allow the device to analyze what the camera sees and answer questions about people, places, objects, and text. This “Visual Intelligence” feature will also extend to iPad, Mac, and Vision Pro, enabling users to search images, screenshots, documents, and on-screen content, as well as perform tasks such as identifying food, splitting bills, and interacting with on-screen information.

Apple is further opening its AI platform to developers through updates to App Intents, Spotlight integrations, Foundation Models, and related tools. This will allow third-party applications to integrate with Siri AI’s contextual understanding and app actions.

Siri AI is available for developer testing starting Monday through Apple’s Developer Program on iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, and visionOS 27. Support for watchOS 27 is expected in a future beta release. Apple stated that the assistant will launch in beta later this year in English on supported devices. However, it will not be available at launch on iPhone and iPad in the European Union, and will remain unavailable in China as the company navigates regulatory requirements.

In concluding his final WWDC keynote as Apple’s CEO, Cook reflected on Apple’s impact and expressed optimism for the company’s future.

“Over the years, you have helped people connect, create, learn, and experience the world in extraordinary new ways. And with the incredible capabilities we introduce today, and so many more still to come, I truly believe the best is still ahead at Apple,” Cook said. “It’s been the honor of a lifetime to help advance that mission with teams whose creativity, care, and conviction continue to make a lasting difference in people’s lives.”

  • Analyst Predicts XRP Surge to $27 by 2026

Analyst Predicts XRP Surge to $27 by 2026

Analyst Predicts Significant XRP Gains Following Potential 2026 Bottom

Technical analyst ChartNerd has presented an analysis suggesting that the current bear market for XRP may be less severe and shorter than previous cycles. According to the analyst’s breakdown shared on June 8, there is a possibility of a cycle bottom forming before the end of 2026, which could pave the way for XRP to eventually reach $27.

Historical Bear Market Trends and Current Conditions

ChartNerd’s research indicates that historical XRP bear markets have typically spanned between 400 and 790 days, with price drops ranging from 85% to 90% from their peaks. In contrast, the current correction, as of the analysis, has lasted approximately 350 days and represents a nearly 70% decrease from the all-time high of $3.65 recorded in July 2025.

The analyst highlighted that both the duration and the magnitude of the current drawdown are milder compared to historical patterns. ChartNerd views this trend of decreasing severity as a significant indicator.

“The territory for marking a historical bottom between now and EOY is fast approaching,” ChartNerd stated. “These prices are where we need to start paying attention to the fact that although the chances of an immediate expansion might be low, a cycle bottom could genuinely be on the horizon.”

Potential for Further Downside and Future Targets

Despite the optimistic outlook, ChartNerd did not entirely dismiss the possibility of further price declines for XRP. The analyst suggested that additional market pain in the coming months might be necessary to establish the definitive cycle low. This would then be followed by an accumulation phase, leading to a potential ascent towards Fibonacci extension targets of $8, $13, and $27.

An exception to this observed pattern was noted in the 2014 bear market. During that cycle, XRP experienced a 96% drop over approximately 210 days to reach its low. However, it subsequently took over 1,200 days for XRP to surpass its previous high, with a significant wick low appearing in late 2017 before a peak in January 2018.

Recent Price Action and ETF Inflows

At the time of reporting, XRP was trading around $1.15, marking a roughly 12% decrease from the previous week and a 19% drop from the month prior. In the past week, the Ripple token touched a 19-month low of $1.05 before experiencing a brief rally to $1.20, followed by a slight pullback.

Amidst this recent volatility, spot XRP Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) presented a positive development, closing the last week with net inflows totaling $2.62 million. This figure is noteworthy, especially when contrasted with Bitcoin ETFs, which saw outflows exceeding $1.7 billion during the same period, and Ethereum ETFs, which experienced outflows of $173 million.

Among other cryptocurrency ETFs, only HYPE ETFs demonstrated stronger performance, attracting nearly $17 million. Funds tracking Litecoin (LTC), Avalanche (AVAX), and Hedera (HBAR) reported no significant activity.

  • Zcash Surges $2.5 Billion on Supply Fix Hopes

Zcash Surges $2.5 Billion on Supply Fix Hopes

Zcash Recovers as Founder Proposes Upgrade to Restore Scarcity Confidence

Zcash has staged a weekend recovery after its founder, Zooko Wilcox, unveiled a proposal for an upgrade designed to restore confidence in the digital asset’s scarcity.

The price of Zcash (ZEC) had plummeted late last week following disclosures by Shielded Labs, an organization dedicated to supporting the privacy coin’s development. The group revealed a critical bug that, prior to its patching, could have allowed for the creation of an unlimited number of counterfeit tokens.

Shielded Labs noted at the time that Zcash’s inherent privacy features made it impossible to definitively determine, using cryptography alone, whether the vulnerability had been exploited. However, the proposal introduced on Friday details changes for an “Ironwood” upgrade that aims to alleviate these concerns.

“Ironwood would allow users to verify that the circulating supply of Zcash is correct,” Wilcox stated in an X post. “Users would gain this ability immediately upon the activation of Ironwood, by simply summing up the balances of the active pools.”

Following a significant drop in its market capitalization to $5 billion on Friday, Zcash’s total market value has since rebounded to nearly $7.5 billion. Despite this increase, Zcash’s market cap remains approximately 30% below its Friday peak of $10.48 billion, according to data from CoinGecko.

The token’s sharp decline had a ripple effect on other privacy coins. NEAR Protocol, for instance, saw a rally of more than 8% to $2.15 over a 24-hour period. Zcash itself experienced a 6% rise, reaching around $445.

    Ironwood Upgrade Details

The Ironwood upgrade is set to focus on several key areas. It will introduce a new mechanism for users to hold their Zcash in a shielded form, implement restrictions on transactions that could potentially involve counterfeit coins, and leverage advanced techniques such as AI-assisted security auditing to bolster the robustness of Zcash’s codebase.

Wilcox’s post indicated that the timeline for the upgrade is not yet finalized, with a clearer understanding expected “as implementation plans mature and discussions continue.” The post also reiterated confidence that the vulnerability was never exploited.

According to the post, Shielded Labs’ efforts involve collaboration with the Zcash Foundation, Tachyon Group, Valar Group, and the Zcash Open Development Lab. Shortly after the proposal was made public, prominent advocates for the privacy coin expressed strong support for the upgrade.

“I’m extremely bullish,” Mert Mumtaz, CEO and co-founder of Solana infrastructure firm Helius Labs, told Decrypt, characterizing the upgrade’s scope as an ambitious response. “Crypto is volatile.”

Mumtaz, who has become one of Zcash’s most vocal supporters over the past year, emphasized that the upgrade is anticipated to address a fundamental trade-off inherent in privacy coins. Crucially, he added, it incorporates new transaction logic designed to prevent similar bugs from emerging in the future.

Despite the recent turbulence, Mumtaz downplayed the significance of Zcash’s plunge, stating that such market movements are common in the cryptocurrency space. He attributed Friday’s losses partly to “massive hysteria” and broader headwinds from Wall Street, noting that the Nasdaq also experienced its largest one-day point drop.

MetaMask Unveils AI-Powered Wallet with Integrated Security

MetaMask Unveils Agent Wallet for Autonomous DeFi Trading

MetaMask has introduced Agent Wallet, a self-custodial cryptocurrency wallet engineered to empower AI agents to autonomously engage in trading and interact with decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols, all while operating under user-defined security parameters.

The launch arrives as the cryptocurrency development community increasingly focuses on creating AI agents capable of managing portfolios, executing trades, and directly interacting with decentralized applications. The product is currently accessible to approximately 200 users through an Early Access Program, with a broader release anticipated later this summer.

“It’s genuinely day one for agents, but the infrastructure decision can’t wait because agents are already touching real money, and most of them are doing it the wrong way,” Zhen Yu Tong, MetaMask Senior Director of Product, told Decrypt.

Tong explained that many existing market solutions grant AI agents direct access to private keys, posing a significant risk of unintended transactions or fund loss due to errors rather than malicious hacks.

“If the first generation of trading agents normalizes giving away your keys, we’ll be rebuilding the custodial mistakes crypto spent a decade escaping,” he stated.

MetaMask’s Agent Wallet routes transactions through the company’s existing security infrastructure. This includes transaction simulation, detection of scams and malicious contracts, threat scanning powered by Blockaid, Clear Signing, and Servo MEV protection.

Rather than assuming AI models can be entirely shielded from manipulation, MetaMask emphasized that the wallet’s design prioritizes controls to mitigate the consequences of agent errors.

“The honest premise first: You cannot guarantee an LLM won’t be tricked,” Tong said. “Prompt injection is an open research problem, not a bug you patch once.”

Prompt injection attacks occur when malicious instructions are used to compromise an AI system, leading it to perform unintended actions. In the context of cryptocurrency, this could involve tricking an agent into approving transactions, moving funds, or interacting with a compromised smart contract.

To counter these risks, Agent Wallet’s default Guard Mode allows users to establish spending limits, approved protocols, and other operational parameters. Transactions that deviate from these rules or are flagged as suspicious necessitate two-factor authentication for completion.

A less restrictive Beast Mode offers agents greater autonomy, though it still requires approval for transactions identified as malicious.

“Beast Mode is for users who want genuinely hands-off operation—the agent acts without a pop-up on every transaction,” Tong explained. “What Beast Mode does not do is switch off the safety net. If our threat detection flags a transaction as malicious, 2FA still fires no matter what mode you’re in. That’s non-negotiable.”

Tong further clarified that operating without explicit approval does not equate to operating without limitations. Beast Mode still adheres to user-defined guardrails, including spending caps, approved assets and protocols, and time-based restrictions. This enables agents to autonomously rebalance portfolios, interact with verified contracts, and settle payments without requiring individual transaction approvals.

“Think of it like banks or exchanges, where you need to add recipients to an allowlist before you can send to them. That’s Guard Mode—the user pre-approves who the agent can interact with, and anything outside that list triggers 2FA,” he said. “Beast Mode flips it: addresses are scanned in real time, and 2FA fires if any are flagged as bad—but the user doesn’t have to add anyone to an allowlist upfront.”

The wallet supports Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible chains and Hyperliquid, along with agent frameworks such as OpenAI Codex, Anthropic’s Claude Code, Cursor, OpenClaw, and Hermes Agent. It utilizes Cubist’s trusted execution environment technology to ensure private keys remain within a hardware-isolated enclave during the signing process, thereby preventing MetaMask and Consensys from accessing user key material.

MetaMask’s Agent Wallet launch follows similar initiatives from other crypto companies developing infrastructure for AI agents.

In February, Coinbase introduced Agentic Wallets, a self-custodial wallet designed for AI agents to manage crypto assets and send payments, with private keys isolated within trusted execution environments. In March, MoonPay expanded its agent strategy by integrating Ledger hardware wallets for AI transactions requiring human approval.

The crypto payments firm later launched the Open Wallet Standard, an open-source framework supported by entities including PayPal, the Ethereum Foundation, Solana Foundation, Ripple, and Base, aiming to standardize AI agent wallet and fund management across blockchains.

Last week, MoonPay released a desktop application for Claude Code and OpenAI Codex, enabling users to connect AI assistants to wallets, token swaps, prediction markets, and other blockchain tools through a graphical interface.

  • 2026 Crypto-Oil Trading: Top Exchanges Revealed

2026 Crypto-Oil Trading: Top Exchanges Revealed

The cryptocurrency landscape has undergone a significant transformation in recent years. When I first entered the space, only a handful of centralized exchanges existed, and the notion of trading stocks or commodities on them was unthinkable. Today, however, tokenization has become a cornerstone of the industry, enabling the trading of commodities like oil with daily trading volumes reaching billions.

By 2026, as blockchain infrastructure continues its evolution, traders will be able to access oil markets through tokenized assets and decentralized platforms, bypassing traditional brokers entirely. This guide will provide a comprehensive overview of trading oil with crypto, covering exchanges, step-by-step instructions, fees, advantages, disadvantages, and key differences.

The convergence of oil markets and cryptocurrency has intensified as digital asset platforms expand beyond spot trading into derivatives and real-world asset (RWA) exposure. Historically, oil trading was dominated by futures contracts on regulated exchanges. Now, however, crypto infrastructure facilitates similar exposure through tokenized alternatives. Instead of holding physical oil or relying on legacy brokers, traders can speculate on oil prices using crypto-collateralized perpetual contracts that mirror benchmarks like Brent or WTI.

Several prominent platforms have already embraced this trend. Hyperliquid, a popular decentralized perpetual contracts exchange, quickly emerged as a preferred venue for oil trading, particularly during periods of geopolitical tension. It remains a leading platform for tokenized oil, boasting billions in open interest within weeks of its launch.

Centralized exchanges are also gaining traction. Binance, for instance, offers oil-linked derivatives that function similarly to traditional oil futures but are settled in cryptocurrency. Bybit has also introduced trading interfaces that blend traditional finance concepts with digital assets, allowing users to gain exposure to commodities like crude oil alongside crypto markets.

This evolution signifies a broader shift: cryptocurrency exchanges are rapidly transforming into multi-asset trading venues. Given its status as one of the world’s most liquid commodities, oil represents a natural extension for these platforms. It is important to note that this connection remains synthetic, with prices derived from external markets and positions typically settled in stablecoins or other cryptocurrencies.

Decentralized and Centralized Exchanges for Oil Trading

This section will explore both decentralized and centralized exchanges offering oil-linked products tradable with stablecoins. While centralized exchanges have traditionally been perceived as more user-friendly, Hyperliquid offers a comparable experience with the added benefit of self-custody.

    Hyperliquid

    Rating: 4.8/5

    • Pros:

    * 24/7 decentralized commodity trading
    * Complete self-custody with wallet execution
    * Ideal for advanced DeFi derivatives users

    • Cons:

    * Potential smart contract and oracle issues
    * Steeper learning curve for newcomers
    * External ecosystem builders run the markets

Hyperliquid stands as the largest decentralized cryptocurrency exchange, dominating over 90% of the DEX market share for perpetual futures trading. It pioneered oil-linked derivatives with the launch of HIP-3 on mainnet, becoming a primary venue for trading OIL contracts with crypto, even on weekends. This made it a crucial instrument for price discovery during periods of Middle Eastern conflict.

Hyperliquid treats crude oil as a 24/7 on-chain perpetual market. Users can post crypto collateral to gain long or short exposure to oil-linked contracts without needing a traditional commodity broker. This offers a truly crypto-native experience, featuring wallet-backed access, on-chain settlement, perpetual futures, funding rates, and continuous trading.

While centralized venues have since followed suit, Hyperliquid continues to command a significant portion of trading volume for good reason. However, it’s important to acknowledge that Hyperliquid is not a regulated commodity exchange, a characteristic shared by Binance and Bybit. The onboarding process can be intimidating for non-crypto users who need to set up a wallet and bridge funds, but for those familiar with Web3 dApps, the experience is seamless.

The markets on Hyperliquid are deployed by third-party firms building on the exchange’s infrastructure through its builder codes program. These companies support the markets, meaning the Hyperliquid team is not directly responsible for them. Currently, teams offering oil-linked perps on Hyperliquid include:

    * Familiar interface for crypto derivatives traders
    * Convenient integration with existing crypto balances
    * Mobile access and advanced tools
    * 24/7 trading availability

    • Cons:

    * Not a regulated commodity exchange
    * Requires KYC verification
    * Potential for liquidation risk with high leverage

    Fees

Fees vary significantly across the reviewed platforms and can be influenced by account tier, trading volume, region, and market conditions. It is crucial to look beyond the maker-taker fees and consider funding rates, spreads, slippage, withdrawal fees, bridging costs, and any commissions or overnight charges.

Advantages of Trading Oil with Crypto

For those accustomed to traditional commodity trading, the process through brokers, futures exchanges, or CFDs can often feel cumbersome. Setting up traditional brokerage accounts, for example, can involve lengthy administrative procedures that are typically absent in crypto-native platforms. Given that physical oil trading is impractical for most, derivatives are the likely focus. Here are some key advantages of trading oil with crypto:

    • 24/7 Market Access: Many crypto platforms offer round-the-clock access to oil markets, unlike traditional futures markets with set trading hours. This continuous trading capability is particularly attractive during weekends, holidays, or periods of geopolitical instability when news can break while traditional markets are closed.
    • Stablecoin Settlement: If you already engage in crypto trading, you likely hold stablecoins like USDT or USDC. All the reviewed platforms allow direct oil trading using these stablecoins. This provides a familiar experience, enabling collateral posting, position management, and trade settlement in dollar-denominated stablecoins.
    • Reduced Need for Separate Brokers: Crypto platforms can diminish the reliance on separate commodities brokers. For existing crypto traders, this eliminates the friction of opening new accounts with legacy brokerages, learning new interfaces, or transferring capital between different financial platforms. This is especially appealing to crypto-native users.
    • Familiar Trading Experience: Oil-linked products on crypto exchanges closely resemble perpetual futures markets, which many traders are already familiar with. Centralized exchanges, in particular, offer a streamlined setup process.
    • Other Benefits:

    * Speed and Efficiency: Transactions are generally faster compared to traditional financial systems.
    * Global Accessibility: Crypto platforms are accessible to a wider global audience.
    * Innovation: The space is constantly evolving with new features and products.

Risks of Trading Oil with Crypto

The risks associated with trading oil with crypto are largely similar to those found in perpetual futures trading, including:

    • Market Volatility: Oil prices can be highly volatile, influenced by geopolitical events, supply and demand dynamics, and economic factors.
    • Leverage Risk: High leverage amplifies both potential profits and losses. Excessive leverage can lead to rapid liquidation of positions.
    • Liquidation Risk: If the market moves against your position and your margin falls below the required level, your position can be automatically liquidated.
    • Smart Contract Risk (for DEXs): Decentralized exchanges rely on smart contracts, which can have vulnerabilities that could be exploited.
    • Counterparty Risk (for CEXs): Centralized exchanges hold your funds, meaning there is a risk of the exchange becoming insolvent or experiencing a security breach.

    Specific Risks to Consider

    • Oracle Risk: Crypto-based oil markets often rely on external price feeds, such as index calculations or oracle systems, to track benchmarks like Brent or WTI. If an oracle is delayed, inaccurate, manipulated, or disconnected from the underlying market, traders may encounter unexpected pricing issues. This risk can affect both decentralized and centralized exchanges.

    Choosing the Right Platform

There is no single “best” option for every trader. The choice between decentralized and centralized platforms depends on individual experience levels, custody preferences, and risk tolerance.

    | Feature | Decentralized (e.g., Hyperliquid) | Centralized (e.g., Binance, Bybit) |
    | :—————— | :——————————– | :——————————— |
    | Custody | Self-custody | Exchange custody |
    | User Experience | More complex, crypto-native | Simpler, familiar |
    | Regulation | Less regulated | Varies, often requires KYC |
    | Anonymity | Higher | Lower (due to KYC) |
    | Security | Smart contract dependent | Exchange security dependent |
    | Best For | Crypto natives, self-custody advocates | Newcomers, convenience seekers |

    Frequently Asked Questions

Usually, no. Most oil-linked crypto products track benchmarks like Brent or WTI through derivatives, perpetual contracts, indexes, or oracle-based pricing, rather than granting traders ownership of physical crude oil.

Oil-linked products are available on exchanges such as Hyperliquid, Binance, and Bybit. Availability can change, so it’s advisable to check the live platform before depositing funds.

Yes, most crypto-based oil markets operate 24/7. However, weekend trading may involve wider spreads, lower liquidity, and pricing discrepancies compared to traditional oil markets.

Yes, trading oil with crypto is generally considered safe, provided one understands and manages the inherent risks, including market volatility, leverage, and liquidation.

Yes, USDT or USDC are typically required to trade oil with crypto. Most exchanges support at least one of these stablecoins.

Hyperliquid is the premier choice for crypto natives seeking an on-chain experience. Binance and Bybit are excellent alternatives for existing users or those prioritizing a reliable and secure centralized exchange.

The primary appeal of these platforms lies in their convenience. While the initial setup might seem daunting for inexperienced traders, crypto exchanges generally provide comprehensive guidance and educational resources.

In essence, trading oil with crypto offers significant advantages for those who value speed, stablecoin settlement, and crypto-native access. However, it is not a risk-free endeavor.

  • XRP and Bitcoin: The Only Top 10 Survivors Since 2014

XRP and Bitcoin: The Only Top 10 Survivors Since 2014

XRP Price Shows Resilience Amidst Market Turbulence, Analysts Eye Potential Upside

XRP is currently trading around the $1.15 mark, buoyed by a combination of on-chain activity, institutional interest, and market structure signals that point to underlying strength. Notably, XRP, alongside Bitcoin, is one of the only cryptocurrencies to have consistently maintained a top-10 market capitalization position since 2014, a testament to its enduring presence in the digital asset space.

    XRP Recovers with Conviction

Following a volatile week, XRP has successfully reclaimed the $1.10 support level, a move that appears to be backed by significant conviction. Data indicates that over 25 million XRP tokens were withdrawn from exchanges during this period, a pattern often associated with accumulation by large holders, or “whales.”

    Strong Inflows and Trading Volume

Daily spot trading volume for XRP surged by 16%, exceeding $2 billion. Furthermore, XRP investment products have collectively attracted over $1.4 billion in cumulative inflows. These metrics suggest that the current price action is not merely a fleeting fluctuation but rather a data point within a broader, sustained trend.

    Technical Outlook and Support Levels

XRP is presently consolidating within the $1.13 to $1.15 range, holding firm above the immediate pivot point of $1.08 and building on its re-established $1.10 support. The 16% surge in trading volume accompanying this upward movement is viewed positively by technical traders.

Potential downside support levels are identified at $1.06, $1.03, and $1.00. The $1.00 level, in particular, serves as a crucial psychological floor; a decisive weekly close below this point would signal a significant bearish shift in market structure.

    Bullish and Bearish Scenarios

For bullish investors, sustained exchange outflows and an acceleration of the exchange-traded fund (ETF) narrative could propel XRP towards the $1.30-$1.40 resistance zone. Beyond that, analyst consensus suggests a potential target range of $2.50 to $3.50 by 2026.

Conversely, a deterioration in the broader macroeconomic environment could lead to XRP breaking below the $1.00 mark. Both macro and technical indicators suggest a potential retracement in the near term, following the recent breakout.

    The Challenge of Exponential Growth

The current market dynamics present a unique challenge for traders. XRP and Bitcoin have weathered numerous market cycles, including periods of rapid growth and subsequent corrections. The potential for exponential gains, similar to those captured by early holders in 2014 or 2017, is structurally limited at their current market capitalizations. This raises the question of where significant future growth opportunities might lie.

LiquidChain: A New Frontier in Liquidity

LiquidChain ($LIQUID) is an emerging Layer 3 infrastructure project designed to address the fragmentation of liquidity across major blockchain ecosystems such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana. Its core innovation is a Unified Liquidity Layer that integrates these three networks into a singular execution environment. This architecture enables Single-Step Execution, Verifiable Settlement, and a Deploy-Once approach, allowing developers to access liquidity from BTC, ETH, and SOL without the need for cross-chain redeployment.

The presale for $LIQUID is currently underway, with tokens priced at $0.01467. To date, $830,000 has been raised. The current entry price reflects the early-stage infrastructure risk rather than post-hype market premiums. Investors are encouraged to review LiquidChain’s presale terms before the window closes.

  • XRP Poised for Stocks, Loans Settlement: Is Infrastructure Ready?

XRP Poised for Stocks, Loans Settlement: Is Infrastructure Ready?

XRP Ledger Evolving Beyond Payments to Become Settlement Layer for Tokenized Assets

Ripple’s Chief Technology Officer Emeritus, David Schwartz, has outlined an ambitious vision for the XRP Ledger (XRPL), positioning it as a comprehensive settlement and issuance layer for a wide array of tokenized assets, including stocks, money market funds, repos, and on-chain loans. This strategic shift, detailed in a June 5 video segment, signals a significant expansion beyond its initial role as a fast payments network, a development viewed as bullish for XRP.

A Clear Roadmap and Tangible Progress

The roadmap presented is notably specific, with an aggressive timeline for infrastructure development and a confirmed list of institutional partners. The key question for observers is the current operational status of these initiatives, distinguishing between what is already live and what remains in the development pipeline.

    Real-World Asset Tokenization Surges

Evidence of XRPL’s growing traction in the real-world asset (RWA) tokenization space is not speculative but data-driven. Tokenized RWAs on the ledger experienced a dramatic surge, increasing from $24.7 million to $567.9 million throughout 2025, representing a 2,200% growth. By early 2026, this figure had climbed to approximately $2.325 billion.

This trajectory places XRPL among the top global platforms for distributed tokenized RWAs, capturing an estimated 1.53% of the total market. Key issuers driving this growth include VERT Capital, RLUSD, and OpenEden, which collectively accounted for 85.5% of the tokenized value as of mid-2025. Notably, Ripple’s regulated stablecoin, RLUSD, boasts a market capitalization of $1.3 billion, making it the third-largest US-regulated stablecoin.

The $2.3 billion figure represents the current live ecosystem. The implications of this growth for XRPL’s broader ambitions in tokenized equities and credit markets are still unfolding.

    Protocol Innovations Fueling Expansion

Schwartz’s vision hinges on two core protocol mechanisms. The Multi-Purpose Token (MPT) standard is designed to enable the on-chain representation of complex structured assets, such as bonds and funds. MPT incorporates built-in attributes like maturity dates and transfer restrictions, eliminating the need for custom smart contract logic.

Furthermore, the native lending protocol, slated for rollout under XLS-66 as part of XRPL Version 3.0.0, will facilitate fixed-term institutional loans. This protocol features isolated vaults and automated repayment systems. A permissioned decentralized exchange (DEX), with order books accessible only to Know Your Customer (KYC)-credentialed participants, has already launched its first live offering. These are not theoretical concepts but actively deployed infrastructure.

The activation of the full lending protocol is contingent on the XLS-66 validator vote, which requires an 80% supermajority.

    Strategic Sequencing of Product Rollouts

Schwartz’s presentation in the ‘XRP in a Minute’ segment deliberately sequenced the rollout of these capabilities. He began by referencing Bitcoin’s foundational role in establishing public blockchains for value transfer, then positioned XRPL as the subsequent layer, capable of supporting “both the native digital assets similar to bitcoin, as well as issued assets that can represent things like stablecoins or tokenized assets of any kind.”

He then explicitly named the near-term product categories: “tokenized securities to money market funds, even things like tokenized stocks,” followed by credit-focused offerings: “tokenized repos and tokenized loans.” This ordering is strategic, prioritizing securities and funds due to their clear institutional demand and the existing compliance infrastructure on XRPL. Repos and loans will follow once the XLS-66 lending protocol is fully operational.

While tokenized stocks have been mentioned, they are not yet confirmed as live products on the ledger. Archax, a UK-regulated digital securities exchange, has committed to a $1 billion pipeline that includes equities and fund units, indicating significant institutional interest. The underlying infrastructure, including MPT, the permissioned DEX, and credential-gated order books, is capable of supporting tokenized equities, though specific live products are yet to be announced.

Schwartz’s institutional thesis emphasizes that “Enterprises will provide the features that will attract mass retail adoption, where DeFi can truly deliver on its promise of replacing TradFi.” This perspective suggests that compliance-first, enterprise-developed financial products will serve as the primary on-ramp for the next wave of tokenization adoption, rather than permissionless protocols or retail speculation.
