Dogecoin is experiencing a more than 6% decline today, but a Wall Street figure is closely monitoring the cryptocurrency as its exchange-traded funds (ETFs) continue to see inflows. In a discussion with Anthony Pompliano, Jordi Visser, a former Micron executive who achieved an eightfold return on MU before exiting all AI-sector positions, stated that Dogecoin’s chart is “on the verge of a breakout.”
Visser’s Thesis
Visser’s analysis centers on negative real interest rates, persistent inflation, and the Federal Reserve’s $1.2 trillion in annual interest expenses, which are driving capital into hard assets. He believes Dogecoin serves as an early warning indicator of retail investor participation. Pompliano described DOGE as an “alarm system” because it remains “the most pure play non-institutional asset that has size and liquidity in crypto.” Visser’s response was concise: “I don’t even need to say anything else.”
ETF Inflows
Spot Dogecoin ETFs have recorded net inflows on four of the last eight trading days, bringing the total net inflows in May to approximately $1.3 million. These inflows follow extended periods of zero net flows.
Technical Analysis
Dogecoin is at a critical juncture. Immediate resistance is at $0.11, where the Relative Strength Index (RSI) is between 45 and 62, approaching overbought territory. A sustained daily close above that level, especially with accelerating ETF inflows, is considered the “concrete trigger” for further gains.
The 200-day moving average at $0.125 presents a more significant test. Successfully reclaiming and holding this level could lead to a target of $0.150 by the end of 2026.
On the downside, the 100-day exponential moving average (EMA) at $0.10 acts as the primary support. A break below this level would invalidate the current breakout structure and likely lead to a consolidation range.
Institutional demand is increasing, albeit not yet at a large scale. An inflow of $460,000 into Grayscale’s GDOG ETF on April 30 ended a 72-day consolidation and pushed the price toward current levels.
Since their launch, DOGE spot ETFs have seen net inflows on four of the last eight trading days, with $1.3 million entering in May. The 149 largest DOGE wallets now hold 108.52 billion DOGE, valued at $11.6 billion, with 739 transactions exceeding $100,000 recorded in a single day late last month.
Dogecoin needs to close above $0.11, with sustained ETF flows, for Visser’s retail rotation thesis to drive a move toward $0.125.
Alternative Investment
Dogecoin trading above 10 cents presents a different scenario than in 2021. The asymmetry has decreased. Traders seeking exposure to the same retail-driven rotation are looking at alternative investments.
