Solana’s market for tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) has experienced substantial growth over the past year, increasing by over 600%. According to a Castle Labs report, Solana’s RWA market expanded from $700 million to $4.3 billion in the last twelve months. In comparison, Ethereum’s tokenized market saw a 7% increase during the same period, rising from $15.5 billion to $16.6 billion.
This growth has shifted Solana’s RWA market share relative to Ethereum’s. A year ago, Solana’s RWA market represented 4.5% of Ethereum’s total. Currently, it stands at 26% of Ethereum’s RWA market size. This expansion is attributed to Solana’s developing DeFi ecosystem, which now supports a variety of tokenized assets including US Treasury debt, asset-backed credit, tokenized stocks, commodities, and investment strategies.
Key RWA Developments on Solana
Tokenized stocks have been a notable component of Solana’s RWA growth. The market value of tokenized stocks on Solana increased from $63 million to $455 million over the past year. Furthermore, over $65 million in these tokenized equities are currently being utilized to generate yield through platforms like Kamino and Jupiter Lend, offering holders returns beyond simple asset appreciation.
Beyond tokenized stocks, Solana’s RWA landscape includes other asset classes. These encompass reinsurance exposure through ONyc from OnRe, and home and auto loans represented by PRIME and AUTO from Hastra. Maple Finance has also extended its offerings to Solana with syrupUSDC. These diverse RWA products are introducing yield-bearing assets to the network and creating new avenues for lending and borrowing.
Impact on Solana’s DeFi Ecosystem
The influx of RWAs is supporting Solana’s broader DeFi growth. Lending protocols can leverage these tokenized assets as collateral, enabling users to borrow against them and deploy their capital elsewhere. Castle Labs explained that as more assets are tokenized and integrated, this activity can foster increased demand for lending and borrowing services on the Solana network.
Broader On-Chain Performance
In terms of overall on-chain application revenue, Solana has also demonstrated significant performance. Over the past 30 days, Solana generated more than $193 million in revenue from its on-chain applications. This figure is nearly double the $86.5 million generated by Hyperliquid during the same period. Consumer applications reportedly account for approximately 80% of Solana’s on-chain application revenue, indicating a strong user base for these services.
Why This Matters
Solana’s RWA market growth is attributed to its expanding DeFi ecosystem and attraction of assets beyond speculative trading.
Broader Context
Solana’s on-chain economy is growing beyond meme coins.
