Bitcoin ETFs Attract $1.07B Amidst $41M Wallet Movement Linked to Irish Drug Trafficker

Bitcoin ETFs See Surge in Demand, Attracting Over $1 Billion

U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) experienced a significant influx of capital, attracting more than $1.07 billion in net inflows over three trading sessions from October 19 to October 21. This surge in institutional investment demand occurred concurrently with a notable transaction involving a wallet linked to convicted Irish drug trafficker Clifton Collins, which moved approximately $41 million worth of Bitcoin to a Coinbase Prime deposit address.

The ETF figures indicate a robust recovery in institutional appetite for regulated Bitcoin investment products. Meanwhile, the recent Bitcoin transfer from the Collins-linked wallet adds another layer to the ongoing mystery surrounding his substantial, long-dormant cryptocurrency holdings.

ETF Inflows Show Strong Rebound

On Monday, October 19, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded net inflows of $526.7 million. This was followed by a more modest $23.2 million on Tuesday, before a strong rebound on Wednesday, which saw inflows reach $524.8 million. The combined total across these three sessions amounted to $1.0747 billion.

Wednesday’s impressive performance was largely propelled by BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), which garnered $235 million in inflows, and Fidelity’s FBTC, which attracted $212.7 million. Grayscale’s GBTC also saw positive movement, adding $32.6 million, while Bitwise’s BITB secured $19.2 million. Other funds also reported positive flows, including ARKB ($9.8 million), EZBC ($7.3 million), and the fund listed simply as BTC ($8.2 million).

Tuesday’s activity was considerably more subdued. IBIT attracted $29.9 million and FBTC added $3.6 million, while BITB experienced outflows of $10.3 million, resulting in the day’s net inflow of $23.2 million.

Monday’s substantial $526.7 million total was primarily driven by $665.2 million flowing into IBIT. This was partially offset by outflows from GBTC ($54.9 million) and FBTC ($83.6 million).

The three-day data suggests a renewed and significant demand for regulated Bitcoin investment vehicles. Future trading sessions will be crucial in determining whether this represents a sustained recovery in institutional investment or a temporary surge concentrated among a few major funds.

Mystery Surrounds Large Bitcoin Transfer

In a separate development, a wallet identified by blockchain analytics firm Arkham Intelligence as belonging to Clifton Collins transferred another 500 Bitcoin, valued at approximately $41 million, to Coinbase Prime on October 20. This marks the fifth instance of a 500 BTC transfer from Collins-linked holdings in 2026, continuing a series of transactions that have drawn considerable attention to the status of his long-dormant Bitcoin fortune.

Collins reportedly accumulated 6,000 BTC in 2011 and 2012 through illicit drug trafficking proceeds. Following his arrest in 2017, the physical copies of his wallet keys were allegedly discarded by his landlord, leading to the belief that the Bitcoin was inaccessible.

The recent movements have ignited questions regarding how access to these holdings was regained and who authorized the transfers. Arkham’s analysis indicates that approximately 2,500 BTC from Collins-linked wallets have been moved this year, leaving an estimated 3,500 BTC in associated wallets.

These transfers have occurred in parallel with publicly announced cryptocurrency seizures by Ireland’s Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB), which has reported confiscating Bitcoin linked to Collins during the year.

The fate of the remaining holdings is a key element in this unfolding narrative. Further transfers, an official statement from Irish authorities, or confirmation from Coinbase could shed light on whether these funds are under state control, being held in custody, or are being moved for other reasons.

Divergent Market Dynamics

The $1.07 billion in net inflows over three days for U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs provides a fresh benchmark for demand in the regulated investment space. Simultaneously, the movements from the Collins-linked wallet underscore the potential for substantial amounts of previously inaccessible Bitcoin to re-enter circulation.

These two distinct developments highlight different facets of the Bitcoin market: the growing institutional adoption through regulated investment products and the unexpected reappearance of a significant cryptocurrency fortune that was widely presumed lost.
