Solana Labs Launches Beta Trading App Leap for Tokenized Stocks and Crypto

Solana Labs has introduced Leap, a beta mobile trading app that allows users to trade tokenized stocks, ETFs, metals, currencies, and cryptocurrencies. Currently available for early access on iPhone via Apple’s TestFlight program, an Android version is planned. The app is not accessible in the U.K. or other restricted regions.

Leap is developed by the team behind Dialect, a company acquired by Solana Labs earlier this year. Dialect previously developed Solana Actions and Blinks, a protocol for shareable blockchain transactions, and the cashtags feature on X. Solana Labs is positioning Leap as an alternative to fast-paced meme coin trading, aiming to attract users who prefer making more informed, long-term decisions. The app features curated news linked to price charts and detailed profit and loss tracking for all transactions, with each trade executed as an on-chain swap.

Leap utilizes Jupiter for trade routing, Helius for infrastructure, and Birdeye for market data. According to Leap’s general manager, Chris Osborn, the Solana blockchain now suggests trades in approximately 150 milliseconds, a speed improvement attributed to Alpenglow, a consensus overhaul designed to reduce confirmation times. Solana Labs co-founder and CEO Anatoly Yakovenko stated that every app bringing new users onto the blockchain strengthens the overall ecosystem.

While Leap is not charging its own fees at launch, network and routing costs still apply. Future plans include using fees for a SOL buyback and burn program, permanently removing tokens from circulation, and funding a referral program. Early waitlist members, the Founders Club, were offered the opportunity to earn 30% of trading fees generated by users they invite, and an additional 5% from those users’ own referrals.

The launch of Leap coincides with a growing trend of tokenized stocks on the Solana network and beyond. Securitize, for instance, has introduced tokenized shares of companies like Nvidia, Apple, and Amazon to Solana. However, this trend has also faced opposition, with 56 companies reportedly objecting to the trading of their shares on planned tokenized stock venues by OKX and ICE.

Key uncertainties remain regarding the exact release date of the Android version, the specific restricted regions where the app is unavailable, and the timeline for when Leap will begin implementing fees. The full details of the referral program beyond the initial percentages are also yet to be fully clarified, as is the extent of the pushback against tokenized stock trading beyond the mentioned companies.
