XRP Faces Potential Crash Below $1 as Key Support Breaks, Whales Sell

XRP Plummets to Four-Month Low Amidst Market Downturn and Whale Sell-Off

XRP has joined the broader cryptocurrency market’s downward trend, falling to a new four-month low of under $1.15. This significant decline follows a shift in investor sentiment, with exchange-traded fund (ETF) investors reportedly reversing their positions and large holders, or “whales,” liquidating substantial amounts of XRP. Analysts are now suggesting that further price drops could be imminent.

From Potential Breakout to Sharp Correction

Just three weeks ago, XRP was trading near the $1.55 resistance level, with many market observers anticipating a move towards $1.80 or higher. However, the token experienced a sharp rejection, culminating in a recent plunge to just below $1.15. This represents a 25% correction, pushing XRP to its lowest point since an early February downturn that saw it dip to $1.11.

    Market-Wide Sell-Off and Investor Behavior

The downturn in XRP’s price is occurring against a backdrop of a wider market slump, which has seen Bitcoin fall towards $61,000 and Ethereum reach a 14-month low. In addition to these general market pressures, specific factors may be contributing to XRP’s decline. According to analyst Ali Martinez, whales have sold or redistributed approximately 60 million XRP tokens in the past week alone. Such large-scale movements by major holders typically increase selling pressure on an asset.

ETF Flows Reverse as Investors Reassess

Investors gaining exposure to XRP through U.S. spot ETFs have also altered their strategies. After a period of consistent inflows or neutral activity, June 3 saw a net outflow of over $5 million, according to data from SoSoValue, indicating a potential shift in institutional interest.

    Analyst Predicts Further Downside

CasiTraders, a market analyst, commented on XRP’s price action, noting that the token is “breaking below a very important support level.” She expressed concern that the situation could deteriorate further, predicting a significant drop to levels below $1.00 in the near future. Her outlook suggests a potential sequence of a sharp decline towards $0.92, followed by a temporary rebound to around $1.20 (which she expects to act as resistance), and then a final move down to $0.87.

However, CasiTraders also noted that this bearish scenario could be invalidated if XRP manages a decisive rebound and reclaims the $1.30 resistance level.

  • Hayes Ditches HYPE and NEAR: A Familiar Cycle

Hayes Ditches HYPE and NEAR: A Familiar Cycle

Arthur Hayes Sells HYPE and NEAR Holdings, Citing Macro Concerns

Arthur Hayes, co-founder of BitMEX and CIO of Maelstrom, has once again divested his holdings in HYPE and NEAR. The prominent figure cited a confluence of factors for his decision, including rising energy prices linked to geopolitical tensions in Iran, the potential liquidity drain from upcoming major AI initial public offerings (IPOs), and a belief that markets may reach a peak between now and September. Hayes’ strategy, he explained, is to secure profits and reallocate capital into Bitcoin.

Hayes revealed his move via social media, stating, “I just dumped my entire $HYPE and $NEAR position, I will explain why in my essay ‘Reality Test’ dropping next Tuesday. TLDR: – Higher energy prices due to Iran war and inventory restocking – 3 Mega AI IPOs between now and early Q3 – Prediction that Trump goes anti-AI to win…”

However, this abrupt exit contrasts sharply with Hayes’ stance just four days prior. He had previously expressed strong optimism for HYPE, posting “Meow — $HYPE to $150” alongside a cat meme and championing what he termed his “holy trinity” of altcoins: HYPE, ZEC, and NEAR. He even engaged in a $100,000 charity bet with Kyle Samani, wagering that Hyperliquid would outperform all top-10 cryptocurrencies by year-end.

    A Familiar Pattern Emerges

While there is no inherent issue with taking profits, the swift reversal has drawn scrutiny due to its perceived similarity to past actions. In September 2025, Hayes was notably bullish on Hyperliquid, forecasting a potential 126x rally and consistently promoting the token before subsequently selling millions of dollars worth. At the time, he humorously acknowledged that some of the proceeds would fund a Ferrari purchase.

This pattern of renewed bullishness and subsequent exit has repeated. In 2026, Hayes once again presented fresh price targets, expressed strong conviction, and promoted new narratives before exiting his positions.

    Community Reaction and Hayes’ Influence

The cryptocurrency community has voiced its observations, with many noting Hayes’ tendency to buy into an already moving token, promote increasingly ambitious price targets, and then sell into the resulting momentum. Critics questioned how someone could advocate for a $150 target for HYPE only to liquidate their entire position shortly thereafter.

Some supporters of Hyperliquid have defended Hayes’ prerogative to trade as he sees fit, emphasizing that he is not obligated to hold indefinitely and that no one is compelled to mirror his trades.

Nevertheless, Hayes is not merely another crypto influencer. As a recognized pioneer in crypto derivatives and a significant industry figure, his market commentary continues to hold considerable sway. When he repeatedly constructs bullish narratives around a token and then exits shortly after, it naturally invites questioning.

The frustration appears to stem from a recurring pattern observed across various assets, including ETH, PEPE, ENA, and HYPE. While Hayes’ wallet transactions are publicly accessible, transparency alone does not shield him from criticism when such cycles repeat.

Hayes is expected to release a more detailed essay explaining his decision, and his macroeconomic concerns may ultimately prove prescient. The crypto market is known for its rapid shifts, and sound risk management is an integral part of navigating it.

Ultimately, the crypto space is not short on bullish narratives. What is often lacking, critics argue, is accountability when those narratives evaporate the moment profits are within reach.

  • XRP Poised for Volatile Surge Past $10

XRP Poised for Volatile Surge Past $10

XRP Community Remains Optimistic Amidst Legal Battles, Analysts Eyeing Significant Price Surge

Despite years of price performance being hampered by a significant legal battle with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the XRP community appears to be maintaining a strong sense of optimism. Many are predicting a near-term surge into double-digit territory for the cryptocurrency. In fact, some forecasts suggest that reaching $10 could merely be the prelude to a much larger repricing event.

Analysts Draw Parallels to 2017-2018 Bull Run

A key factor fueling this optimism is the potential for XRP’s current price trajectory to mirror its performance during the 2017-2018 bull cycle. Crypto analyst Future XRP, active on X (formerly Twitter), has posited that a repeat of the 2017 rally could see the altcoin’s price not only hit $10 but continue its ascent significantly beyond that.

According to the analyst, the current period of slow growth for XRP is not unusual. A similar pattern was observed in the lead-up to the altcoin’s explosive price action during the 2017 bull market. Based on this historical precedent, Future XRP has outlined a three-phase model for XRP’s price movement:

    • Months of Boredom: An extended period where the altcoin’s price shows minimal movement.
    • Weeks of Disbelief: The price begins to accelerate rapidly.
    • Month of Absolute Chaos: The price experiences an explosive surge, significantly outperforming all previous gains.

Projections Suggest Potential for Triple-Digit Gains

Comparing the current trend to the 2017 cycle, Future XRP suggests that XRP’s price on June 1, 2026, could be analogous to its price on December 1, 2017. This comparison implies that an initial rally could push the price above $2 by July 1.

The subsequent rapid ascent could see XRP surpass $5, and by the third quarter, break the $10 mark. The analyst’s projection indicates that this rapid rise could continue, potentially reaching $24.96 by the end of September.

However, if XRP were to replicate the full magnitude of its 2017 run, which saw a 640x increase from January 2017 to January 2018, the current price could theoretically reach as high as $832 at its peak.

“History never repeats exactly,” the analyst cautioned. “But understanding how XRP’s previous cycle unfolded provides valuable context when evaluating future market behavior.”

  • Renowned Economist Declares Crypto a ‘Failed’ Asset Class

Renowned Economist Declares Crypto a ‘Failed’ Asset Class

Crypto Largely a Failed Asset Class, But Blockchain Innovation Continues, Says Analyst

Economist and macro trader Alex Krüger has asserted that “crypto” has largely failed as an asset class, despite accelerating adoption of blockchain-based technologies across stablecoins, tokenization, prediction markets, perpetual futures, AI, and privacy-focused assets. In a recent post on X, Krüger drew a clear distinction between the speculative crypto market of past cycles and the segments of the industry he believes are still demonstrating significant traction.

His central argument was stark: most crypto tokens have failed to generate lasting value for their holders, while founders and insiders have repeatedly exploited the sector’s limited regulatory oversight to extract liquidity from retail investors.

“I largely think of ‘crypto’ as a failed asset class at this point,” Krüger stated. “I’ve written about the causes multiple times. Mainly, most crypto assets are worthless, or have dreadful value accrual, and most founders have abused the lack of guardrails and dumped on people indiscriminately, or are outright scammers.”

Krüger attributed further damage to what he termed the “Memecoins SuperBullshitCycle,” describing it as a speculative trend that “brought the worst out of people” and depleted both capital and morale among market participants. He also highlighted the “never-ending wave of DeFi hacks,” which he noted has increased sharply since last April, as another factor undermining crypto’s credibility as an investable asset class.

Krüger Sees Adoption Rising, But Not in “Old Crypto”

The economist acknowledged that his assessment might appear contradictory, given the rapid expansion of several blockchain-linked sectors. He pointed to growing stablecoin adoption, the emergence of openly pro-crypto politicians in the United States, traditional finance’s push to tokenize assets, increased use of equity and commodity perpetuals on offshore and DeFi platforms, the early development of U.S. perpetual futures markets, and the growing presence of prediction markets in everyday information flows.

However, Krüger framed many of these trends as being “more ‘blockchain’ than ‘crypto’,” suggesting that while the infrastructure and application layers may be advancing, the legacy token market remains structurally weak. In his view, the key exceptions are where tokens exhibit clearer links to revenue, user demand, or capital return mechanisms.

“A few among those exceptions even distribute most revenue to holders via buybacks,” he wrote, specifically naming Hyperliquid. “Which is what every investor actually wants to see to be invested in a good business rather than a fleeting narrative.”

This distinction lies at the heart of Krüger’s argument. He is not suggesting that blockchain-based markets are defunct. Instead, he contends that broad, narrative-driven crypto exposure has failed to deliver the value accrual that investors were promised, while a more select group of sectors has begun to resemble operating businesses or infrastructure plays.

    Privacy and AI Stand Out

Krüger identified privacy as one of the few “old school” crypto categories that retains relevance. He argued that demand for private, non-custodial stores of value is genuine, even if some of that demand originates from illicit flows. He referenced the U.S. Department of Justice’s seizure of $15 billion in Bitcoin from Cambodia-linked pig butchering operations, noting that the legal filing was submitted on October 8, 2025.

“Of course, everyone needs privacy, not just criminals, but crime flows are real, and large,” Krüger wrote. “The asset attracting the most flows in this niche is Zcash. Zcash’s recent performance has been fascinating, as it has been trending higher with bitcoin trending lower, a sign of real reallocation among bitcoiners.”

The other category Krüger believes is not dead is AI. However, his view of this sector was selective. He described most AI tokens as “high flying, fundamentally lacking, narrative driven tokens,” while singling out Venice as a standout, which he sees as tied to a private AI platform with growing users and revenue.

This leads Krüger to a more nuanced conclusion than his initial headline claim might suggest. He views the old token market as broken, but not the broader trajectory of crypto-enabled infrastructure. Stablecoins, tokenized assets, prediction markets, perpetual futures, AI, and privacy may constitute the sector’s next investable narrative, provided the associated tokens can demonstrate actual value capture rather than recycled speculation.

“So one could say old ‘crypto’ is a failed asset class,” Krüger wrote, “but from the ashes come new beginnings, and the new face of crypto is one heavily dominated by the needs of Tradfi, prediction markets, AI, and privacy.” His closing remark encapsulated the contradiction he perceives in the market: “Crypto sucks. Long live crypto.”

At press time, the total cryptocurrency market capitalization stood at $2.28 trillion.

  • Smart Money Buys HYPE Amidst Market Fear, Price Holds $70+

Smart Money Buys HYPE Amidst Market Fear, Price Holds $70+

HYPE Token Holds Strong Above $70 Amidst Market Sell-Off, Fueled by Institutional Accumulation

HYPE is currently trading above the $70 mark, a notable achievement as the broader cryptocurrency market grapples with selling pressure and pervasive uncertainty. While most digital assets have faltered in recent sessions, HYPE’s resilience above this key level is being interpreted as a significant signal. Further analysis from Arkham Intelligence has illuminated two substantial institutional transactions that provide a more concrete explanation for the token’s current price strength.

    Institutional Withdrawals Signal Confidence

Galaxy Digital, the prominent institutional digital asset firm founded by Mike Novogratz, has withdrawn 179,000 HYPE tokens, valued at approximately $12.62 million, from Coinbase within the last seven hours. This move, transferring assets from a regulated U.S. exchange to external custody, suggests a strategic decision by the firm to move tokens away from a venue conducive to immediate sales, a behavior contrary to asset distribution.

Simultaneously, a newly identified wallet, designated as 0x6436, moved another 135,824 HYPE tokens, worth roughly $9.73 million, eight hours prior. This single transaction brings the wallet’s total accumulation over the past two days to 399,730 HYPE, equating to approximately $28.92 million. This address, which appeared in the data only this week, represents a significant new institutional player.

These two separate, institutional-scale transactions, totaling over $40 million in HYPE withdrawals from exchanges, occurred within hours of each other, precisely when the wider crypto market is experiencing downward pressure. The data indicates not a slowdown, but an acceleration of accumulation, occurring at a time when most market participants are moving in the opposite direction.

HYPE Continues to Attract Institutional Capital

The prevailing market conditions amplify the significance of the Galaxy Digital and 0x6436 withdrawals beyond their monetary value. With Bitcoin losing critical support levels and Ethereum struggling below key thresholds, the assets that typically dictate market sentiment are under duress. In this environment, institutional investors, who closely monitor macroeconomic trends, are responding by accumulating HYPE rather than de-risking.

This divergence in behavior has been building since mid-May. While Bitcoin and Ethereum experienced a loss of momentum and tested lower support levels, HYPE has quietly established a pattern of relative strength, now translating into sustained outperformance against the broader altcoin market. Assets that maintain their value and achieve new all-time highs during periods when market leaders are declining often signal specific underlying demand that transcends short-term price action.

The institutional withdrawals from Coinbase serve to confirm that HYPE’s relative strength is not coincidental. The actions of Galaxy Digital and the 0x6436 wallet suggest a conviction in HYPE’s fundamentals, driven by a combination of genuine protocol utility, increasing ETF adoption, and sustained accumulation by entities like a16z. This has created an asset with a compelling investment thesis that remains robust even when Bitcoin faces headwinds. HYPE trading above $70 amidst widespread market weakness is a real-time validation of this thesis, evidenced by each institutional withdrawal.

Bulls Defend Breakout as New All-Time Highs Continue

HYPE continues to stand out as one of the strongest assets in the cryptocurrency market, demonstrating consistent outperformance despite widespread weakness across Bitcoin and most altcoins. The daily chart reveals a powerful uptrend that accelerated throughout May, culminating in a fresh all-time high near the $74 level before a modest pullback.

From a technical standpoint, the asset’s structure remains firmly bullish. HYPE is trading well above its 50-day, 100-day, and 200-day moving averages, all of which are sloping upward and exhibiting healthy bullish alignment. The 50-day moving average, currently near $48, has served as dynamic support throughout the rally, while the 100-day average around $41 underscores the extent of the current advance.

The recent breakout above the prior resistance zone between $60 and $65 triggered a significant expansion in both price and volume, confirming robust demand. Although HYPE is currently experiencing some profit-taking near its all-time highs, buyers have successfully defended the critical $70 level. Maintaining this support would keep the breakout intact and pave the way for further price discovery. The noticeable increase in volume during the latest upward move is a constructive signal, suggesting participation from institutional and whale investors rather than purely speculative retail activity. As long as HYPE remains above the $65-$70 range, the trend is likely to favor bulls. A decisive break below this zone could lead to a deeper correction toward the rising 50-day moving average, but the overall market structure for HYPE remains exceptionally strong.

  • Ethereum Tumbles Below $1,800, Bears Gain Upper Hand

Ethereum Tumbles Below $1,800, Bears Gain Upper Hand

Ethereum Price Slides Below $1,800 Amidst Bearish Sentiment

Ethereum’s price has entered a fresh downturn, trading below the critical $1,800 mark. The cryptocurrency is currently consolidating its losses in this lower range, with indicators suggesting a potential for further declines.

    Ethereum’s Downward Trajectory

Ethereum has remained firmly within a bearish zone following a significant drop below $1,840. The digital asset is now trading beneath both the $1,800 threshold and its 100-hourly Simple Moving Average. A bearish trend line has emerged on the hourly ETH/USD chart, with resistance identified at the $1,800 level, according to data from Kraken. The pair’s downward momentum could persist if it fails to reclaim the $1,880 zone.

    Over 5% Drop Recorded

Ethereum experienced a notable decline, failing to sustain its position above $1,880 and initiating a fresh downward movement, mirroring Bitcoin’s recent performance. The ETH price breached the $1,840 and $1,820 support levels, subsequently falling below $1,800. A low of $1,716 was established, and the price is now consolidating well below the 23.6% Fibonacci retracement level of the move from the $1,889 swing high to the $1,716 low.

The hourly ETH/USD chart shows a developing bearish trend line with resistance at $1,800. Ethereum is currently trading below $1,800 and the 100-hourly Simple Moving Average.

Potential for Recovery and Further Losses

Should bullish sentiment prevail and the price hold above $1,720, Ethereum might attempt a recovery. Immediate resistance is observed around the $1,780 level. The first significant resistance point is situated near $1,800, which also coincides with the 50% Fibonacci retracement level of the recent downward move. The next key resistance lies at the $1,820 level. A decisive break above $1,820 could propel the price towards the $1,850 resistance. Surpassing the $1,850 region might signal further gains in the coming days, potentially pushing Ethereum towards the $1,880 resistance zone or even $1,920 in the short term.

However, if Ethereum falters to clear the $1,850 resistance, a renewed decline could ensue. Initial support is found near the $1,720 level. The primary support zone is located around $1,700. A clear breach below this $1,700 support could drive the price towards the $1,665 support. Further losses might see the price testing the $1,640 region, with the main support potentially at $1,620.

    Technical Indicators

    • Hourly MACD: The MACD for ETH/USD is showing increasing momentum within the bearish zone.
    • Hourly RSI: The RSI for ETH/USD has fallen below the 50 level.

    Major Support Level: $1,720
    Major Resistance Level: $1,850

  • Ethereum Weakness: Final Phase Before Next Market Surge

Ethereum Weakness: Final Phase Before Next Market Surge

Ethereum is under scrutiny as one analyst suggests it may be in its final phase of weakness before a significant upward movement. This outlook is based on the cryptocurrency’s three-day chart, where traders are closely monitoring support levels amidst a period of consolidation.

    Support Levels Remain Key

According to the analysis, the current price pullback is being interpreted as a potential “final dip” within a larger uptrend. This perspective hinges on Ethereum maintaining its position within a rising channel, a pattern observed in previous market cycles. Market participants are now focused on whether the price can sustain itself above critical support levels. The analyst’s argument is built on the premise that a short-term decline can still be accommodated within a broader bullish structure. In this interpretation, the market might be shedding weaker holdings before determining its next trajectory.

    Pattern Comparison Offers Insight

The chart comparison draws parallels to earlier periods when Ethereum experienced a sequence of sideways trading, followed by a decline, and then a recovery. The presented pattern highlights instances where the asset experienced sharp drops before establishing a base and subsequently reaching new highs.

A tweet from Trader Tardigrade (@TATrader_Alan) on June 2, 2026, stated: “$ETH/3D#Ethereum is about to have its final dip — and the pattern is repeating perfectly. The structure is identical. Same breakdown. Same setup. Once this dip completes, we’re headed straight into the next explosive leg up 🚀 pic.twitter.com/PVJf9ziawc”.

This type of pattern analysis is frequently employed by traders who seek to identify recurring market behavior. While it does not guarantee identical outcomes, it can inform the interpretation of short-term price action, particularly when the market appears to be extending in a particular direction. The analysis also situates this chart work within the broader practice of examining support lines, trend channels, and historical turning points. Given Ethereum’s substantial market capitalization, it is one of the most closely watched assets in the cryptocurrency space, meaning even minor structural shifts can quickly attract attention.

    Ethereum’s Broader Context

While technical analysis is a crucial tool for evaluating cryptocurrency markets, it also has limitations. Macroeconomic shifts, regulatory changes, and fluctuations in market liquidity can all influence prices in ways that chart patterns alone cannot fully explain. Ethereum’s wider role also contributes to this outlook. The network remains central to decentralized finance, tokenization initiatives, and blockchain applications, and these uses continue to shape sentiment around the asset beyond short-term price movements.

For the moment, the prevailing sentiment is cautious yet clear: Ethereum may still face one more correction. Traders are observing whether this move occurs without breaching key support levels. If these support levels hold, the same pattern that signals weakness today could later be cited by traders as the foundation for the next upward surge.

  • XRP’s Rare Surge: A Historical Look

XRP’s Rare Surge: A Historical Look

XRP Reenters Critical Zone Preceding Major Rallies

The price of XRP has returned to a significant technical zone that has historically preceded substantial price surges, appearing only four times in its 13-year trading history. Market analyst Cryptollica highlighted this development on the social media platform X, noting that these previous instances were followed by explosive rallies, each emerging after prolonged periods of consolidation and price declines that established cycle bottoms.

Oversold RSI Zone Signals Potential for Mega Cycle Rallies

On June 1, Cryptollica announced that XRP’s monthly Relative Strength Index (RSI) had entered its fourth deep oversold reset zone. The RSI is currently hovering around 42. While this level does not yet indicate a fully oversold condition, the analyst considers it analogous to readings observed during previous major cycles.

Cryptollica pointed out that similar RSI readings occurred during the 2014, 2017, and 2022 cycles, and are now reappearing in early 2026. In each of these past instances, XRP experienced strong parabolic price increases when its monthly RSI reached oversold territory. According to the analyst’s report, this zone has served as a critical reset point for XRP, frequently marking the end of downtrends and the formation of cycle lows.

Historical Patterns Suggesting a Repeat Performance

Further examination of historical data reveals a comparable pattern in the 2013 cycle. XRP traded within a contracting triangle formation for an extended period, repeatedly testing the pattern’s lower boundary before confirming a bottom. This price floor coincided with the oversold RSI zone, which ultimately triggered a sharp breakout, propelling XRP above $0.5 and establishing a new cycle high.

A similar technical structure appears to be developing once again. Cryptollica’s analysis indicates that XRP has been trading within a long-term ascending channel since 2017, with a significant triangle pattern forming inside it. This overarching structure has largely dictated price action for nearly a decade. During this time, XRP has tested the channel’s lower boundary on three occasions, most recently after a pullback from highs near $3 in 2025.

While XRP’s price remains under pressure, it is now approaching the apex of the triangle pattern. Concurrently, the monthly RSI is aligning with lower levels, mirroring the trend observed in the 2013 cycle. The cryptocurrency has now entered the same reset zone, suggesting that a significant breakout could be imminent.

Analyst Projects Substantial Upside Targets for XRP

With the RSI reset zone now in place, Cryptollica suggests that XRP may be poised for a substantial upward movement if historical patterns hold true. The chart provided by the analyst outlines a potential breakout scenario driven by the long-term ascending channel structure.

Under this projection, the first major target for XRP is set above $14, at the upper boundary of the channel. If bullish momentum persists beyond this level, the analysis indicates that the price could extend towards $26, with a projected cycle peak reaching as high as $50.

  • Cardano Hits 5-Year Low Amid Hoskinson’s ‘Wave of Failures’ Warning

Cardano Hits 5-Year Low Amid Hoskinson’s ‘Wave of Failures’ Warning

Cardano Founder Warns of Ecosystem Collapse Amid Market Downturn

The recent sunsetting of Cardano analytics firm TapTools has prompted network founder Charles Hoskinson to issue a stark warning: more companies within the Cardano ecosystem are likely to cease operations this year as market pressures intensify, impacting both Cardano (ADA) and the broader cryptocurrency landscape.

The network’s native token, ADA, has seen a further 6% decline in the last 24 hours, recently trading at $0.20. This marks a price point not seen in over five years for one of the most prominent tokens in the crypto space. ADA is now down approximately 70% over the past year and has fallen more than 93% from its all-time high of $3.09, which was set in 2021.

“This is where we’re at as an ecosystem,” Hoskinson stated in a passionate monologue posted to his YouTube channel on Tuesday.

“I said at the beginning of the year, we’re going to see a lot of people collapse because the markets are really bad,” he continued, adding, “There’s going to be a wave of failures in the ecosystem.”

Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano and a co-founder of Ethereum, is actively seeking solutions but admitted he is “not exactly sure what my role or place is to resolve this.”

“I don’t have any special powers with Cardano,” he asserted, urging viewers and Cardano enthusiasts to shift their focus from blaming him for the network’s challenges to actively seeking “a vision, a strategy, and fix it.”

Failure to do so, he cautioned, will lead to further setbacks.

    Ecosystem Challenges and Resistance

“For months, if not years, I outlined various things we need to do as an ecosystem to prevent these things from happening,” Hoskinson explained, referencing his past attempts to acquire and commercialize applications within the ecosystem.

However, he claims these initiatives were met with resistance. Similarly, efforts to utilize funds from the Cardano Foundation’s ADA treasury to support its decentralized application ecosystem have also faced hurdles. Most recently, the community voted against hosting the annual Cardano Summit.

“There doesn’t seem to be a lot of community desire to spend the treasury to take these ventures to the next level,” Hoskinson observed.

For TapTools, the decision to conclude its four years of development on the network was driven by the economic realities of ongoing building, maintenance, and support.

“The economics of running a platform like this remain challenging. Infrastructure costs are real. Development costs are real. Support costs are real. Operating a platform that serves the ecosystem at scale is expensive,” the firm stated in its announcement on X. It further explained that it could not responsibly commit to the future under the prevailing circumstances.

Hoskinson believes that without significant changes, more decentralized finance (DeFi) applications within the ecosystem will falter, leading to consolidation.

“We as an ecosystem have no reason to lose,” he declared. “We have the technology, we have the philosophy.”

“There’s people, good people, but we’re losing them,” he added. “It’s not Charles Hoskinson driving them out. It’s the economic reality driving them out.”

  • Weisenthal: 12 Reasons for Crypto’s Deepest Winter

Weisenthal: 12 Reasons for Crypto’s Deepest Winter

Bloomberg’s Joe Weisenthal has reignited and expanded his thesis that the cryptocurrency market is mired in what he terms the “coldest crypto winter ever.” His argument, now comprising 12 points, extends beyond mere price fluctuations to encompass market psychology, capital flows, regulatory landscapes, and the burgeoning influence of artificial intelligence and quantum computing.

In his Odd Lots newsletter and subsequent posts on X, Weisenthal elaborated on his earlier assertion from February, which outlined 10 reasons for the current downturn’s unusual severity. “Everything I cited then still holds,” he stated, adding that two additional factors have since exacerbated the bleak outlook.

Crypto’s Problem Extends Beyond Its Own Market

The crux of Weisenthal’s argument is that crypto’s current weakness is occurring precisely when other speculative market segments are experiencing significant gains. This divergence is crucial. A bear market is one thing when risk assets are broadly under pressure; it is an entirely different proposition when investors witness adjacent trades soaring.

One chart presented in the newsletter illustrated a sharp resurgence in the Goldman Sachs non-profitable tech basket. Kevin Gordon, head of macro research and strategy at Schwab Center for Financial Research, observed that this basket is “mooning again” in a manner reminiscent of the 2021 boom. Another chart highlighted the Goldman Sachs US quantum computing basket, which has also seen a substantial rise following a dramatic rally.

For Weisenthal, this makes crypto’s stagnation all the more painful. “First, other people are making SO MUCH MONEY,” he wrote, pointing to listed Nasdaq companies and other equities that have surged in recent months. He specifically cited SK Hynix, up over 250% year-to-date, and Micron, up more than 260%, arguing that such gains amplify the perception among crypto participants that they are missing out on the market’s primary opportunities. He encapsulated this sentiment with a reference to a famous New York Times headline: “Everyone Is Getting Hilariously Rich and You’re Not.”

    The Original 10-Point Case

Weisenthal’s initial February argument, as summarized in the newsletter, posited that the current drawdown is occurring amidst rising anxiety about the U.S. dollar, thereby undermining one of crypto’s traditional macroeconomic narratives. He also contended that crypto can no longer credibly claim to be in its nascent stages, with “crypto Twitter is dead” and institutional adoption having already occurred, diminishing expectations of a future adoption wave.

Furthermore, the regulatory environment, in his view, is no longer a clear future tailwind. He wrote that the current climate is already “about as favorable as it gets,” suggesting that market participants may have limited room to anticipate a significant policy-driven recovery.

    Competition for Attention and Resources

Another significant factor is the competition for attention and capital from the artificial intelligence boom. Weisenthal noted that the AI surge is not only straining electricity resources, which directly impacts miners, but is also capturing “all the mental market share.” In his analysis, crypto no longer appears to be the definitive frontier trade for technology-focused investors.

The list also included concerns regarding crypto’s reputation and structural issues. Weisenthal wrote that crypto is “Epstein-adjacent,” referencing its mention in the Epstein files, and highlighted growing apprehension about quantum computing and its potential implications for Bitcoin’s security model. He also singled out digital asset treasury companies, including Strategy, arguing that firms which had previously accumulated Bitcoin are now transitioning to sellers rather than buyers. He pointed to Strategy’s announcement of selling 32 bitcoins as a symbolic reversal for a company long associated with corporate Bitcoin accumulation.

    FOMO Without Crypto

The two new points introduced by Weisenthal reinforce the overarching theme: crypto is not merely declining; it is being left behind. Weisenthal suggested that a month prior, he might have characterized individual stock rallies as occurring without a broader speculative mania. Now, he believes, the market is increasingly resembling “some real FOMO everything rally.”

This represents a more pointed claim. If AI, quantum computing, and speculative tech are rallying while crypto remains stagnant, then crypto’s challenges extend beyond liquidity, regulation, or price momentum. They touch upon its very relevance. For a sector that was partly built on being the highest-beta expression of technological change and monetary skepticism, losing the attention trade may be the most unsettling signal of this prolonged winter.

At press time, the total cryptocurrency market capitalization stood at $2.3 trillion.
