  • Web3’s Financial Freedom: A Privilege for the Risk-Tolerant

Web3’s Financial Freedom: A Privilege for the Risk-Tolerant

Web3 promises a more inclusive financial system, accessible to anyone with a smartphone and internet connection. While this represents significant progress, mere access does not guarantee safety or practicality.

Users can still lose funds by selecting the wrong network, overpaying on fees, or sending assets to an unsupported destination. When such errors occur repeatedly, they signal a product flaw, even if the industry attributes them to “client error.”

Permissionless access addresses a limited question: can an individual enter the system? True financial inclusion requires addressing more complex issues: can that person understand their actions, identify risks before confirming, and use the product without incurring significant financial losses during the learning process?

This distinction is crucial because cryptocurrency is no longer solely for traders with disposable income. In regions where local currencies are collapsing, inflation is rampant, remittances are prohibitively expensive, or foreign currency is scarce, crypto serves a genuine, practical need.

Consider sub-Saharan Africa. Between July 2024 and June 2025, the region saw $205.7 billion in on-chain value, a 51.7% increase year-over-year, with Nigeria alone accounting for $92.1 billion. Chainalysis attributes much of this activity to inflation, currency devaluation, limited access to foreign exchange, and the growing use of crypto for cross-border payments.

A preview chapter of Chainalysis’s 2025 Geography of Cryptocurrency Report highlights this trend, noting a 52% growth in Sub-Saharan Africa’s crypto market to $205 billion, making it the world’s third fastest-growing region. The report indicates that Nigeria and South Africa are leading institutional adoption, while retail…

For many users, crypto is a valuable tool for saving, paying, or sending funds internationally. Stablecoins and blockchain payments can reduce costs by eliminating intermediaries and streamlining clearing processes. However, cheaper technology does not automatically equate to greater accessibility. If users must understand networks, gas fees, bridges, wallet permissions, slippage, address formats, and finality to use a product, the complexity has merely shifted from the bank to the customer.

Every user of a financial product has an “error budget”—the amount of money they can afford to lose while learning its intricacies before continued use becomes economically irrational.

Imagine two users performing the same on-chain operation simultaneously, each paying $25 in network and bridge fees. One is transferring $10,000, the other $100. From the protocol’s perspective, the outcomes are identical. However, for the first user, $25 is a minor inconvenience; for the second, it represents a quarter of their transaction.

Blockchain protocols are unaware of a client’s income, savings, or financial situation, nor should they be. Products, however, often possess sufficient transaction data to recognize anomalies. They can observe the transfer amount, estimate network fees, compare available routes, calculate the expected arrival amount, and sometimes identify when a selected destination does not support the chosen network.

Despite this, many interfaces continue to present technical decisions as if all users possess equal capital, experience, and risk tolerance. This is not the case. Fixed and unpredictable costs disproportionately affect those sending smaller amounts, while irreversible mistakes carry greater consequences for individuals with limited savings. The less capital a person has, the smaller their error budget.

Consequently, a financial system that demands costly lessons before safe usage may be open, but openness alone does not ensure inclusivity.

This critique is not an argument against self-custody. Rather, it asserts that users should not be compelled to relinquish control simply because the underlying technology is complex. The crypto industry often presents a false dichotomy: either a centralized platform dictates the user experience, or the user must manage all technical and security decisions independently.

In practice, self-custody can involve managing keys, recovery phrases, gas tokens, networks, approvals, bridges, and backups. Users gain financial freedom, but with a workload typically handled by multiple teams within a bank. This can feel like a precarious exchange: “Here is your financial freedom, just try not to click the wrong button.” The core principle is that control over assets and product assistance are not mutually exclusive.

A self-custodial product could detect incompatible networks, explain permissions in clear language, simulate transaction outcomes, flag fees disproportionate to the transfer amount, and clearly differentiate dangerous actions from routine ones. It could even suggest a safer route without seizing control of the funds.

This is one of the driving forces behind ChangeNOW’s evolution beyond its initial role as an instant exchange into a comprehensive crypto platform. The objective of a crypto super app should be to minimize the technical decisions users must make for ordinary financial tasks. Buying, storing, exchanging, sending, trading, or growing funds may rely on diverse underlying infrastructure operating in the background, but the user should not be responsible for connecting each component.

Naturally, users retain their own responsibilities. No financial product can prevent every poor decision, thwart every attack, or reverse every completed transaction. Web3 involves inherent trade-offs, and pretending otherwise—suggesting it is entirely risk-free—would be disingenuous. However, responsibility is not absolute. While an individual can make a single bad call, persistent, similar mistakes across multiple clients likely indicate room for product improvement.

The industry’s default response is often education: read the documentation, watch tutorials, understand gas mechanics, and differentiate between networks, wallets, bridges, and exchanges before sending funds. While education is important, it cannot excuse predictable failure modes. Sending $100 should not necessitate a degree in distributed systems.

If users repeatedly confuse networks, another article is insufficient. If they approve permissions they do not comprehend, a longer disclaimer is not a solution. If the true cost is only revealed post-confirmation, the interface is failing to provide informed consent.

Web3 has already achieved a significant feat: building open, global financial infrastructure outside the traditional banking system. The next priority, though less glamorous, is crucial for widespread adoption: making this technology genuinely usable without requiring users to become experts.

This entails developing products that consolidate fragmented tools into intuitive experiences, prevent predictable errors, and help users achieve financial outcomes rather than merely completing blockchain transactions. This is the direction ChangeNOW is pursuing with its super app. The goal is not to obscure Web3 or diminish user control, but rather to assume responsibility for the complexity that products have too long offloaded onto users.

The next billion users should not need substantial disposable income to navigate the Web3 learning curve. Financial freedom cannot be predicated on open access while the cost of learning is prohibitive for most. Web3 will achieve genuine inclusivity not when anyone can open a wallet, but when ordinary people can use one without an expensive mistake being the mandatory price of entry.

  • BIP-110 Soft Fork Fails After Two Blocks

BIP-110 Soft Fork Fails After Two Blocks

Bitcoin Soft Fork Fails to Gain Traction, Mines Only Two Blocks

A Bitcoin soft fork designed around BIP-110 has effectively collapsed after splitting from the main chain following block 961,632 this week. The initiative, backed by the mining pool Roughnecks, managed to mine just two blocks before the overwhelming majority of the network’s hashpower abandoned it.

The intended purpose of the split was to test whether a determined group of node operators could compel miners to adhere to stricter rules regarding data spam. However, the outcome demonstrated the limited influence a minority possesses when the network’s hashrate refuses to cooperate.

BIP-110 required miners to signal their support by block 961,632, after which a mandatory signaling rule would take effect. When AntPool mined the first block without the required signal, nodes running Bitcoin Knots diverged onto their own chain. Roughnecks successfully mined blocks 961,632 and 961,633 on this alternative branch, but no further blocks were found. Meanwhile, Bitcoin’s original chain continued its regular progression, reaching block 961,651 within approximately a day, establishing an 18-block lead.

The divergence was primarily dictated by mining difficulty. Bitcoin’s mining difficulty had recently adjusted to 127.48 terahashes, a target that both chains inherited. With only a minuscule fraction of the total hashpower supporting the BIP-110 branch, blocks were found at a significantly slower rate than the network’s typical ten-minute interval.

Matthew Kratter, a proponent of BIP-110, acknowledged that the minority chain would require “massive change” to regain parity. This change never materialized. By the time Michael Saylor commented on the situation, he estimated the gap to be over 80 blocks, stating that approximately 99.85 percent of Bitcoin’s hashpower remained on the main chain.

Lyn Alden echoed this sentiment on August 9, noting that the majority of miners, economic nodes, and exchanges continued to operate on the non-forked chain. “It’s not that miners are in control,” she wrote. “The fork just didn’t have consensus.”

Supporters of BIP-110 have contested this assessment. Luke Dashjr wrote on August 9 that claims of the proposal’s failure were inaccurate. Earlier, he had argued that BIP-110 faced no opposition because no counter-fork had emerged.

However, Roughnecks issued a tweet requesting that miners on the BIP-110 chain cease operations under the current algorithm until further notice. Investor Fred Krueger pointed out that the block lead had widened from “153 to 2.”

Bitcoin’s price remained largely unaffected by these developments. BTC traded around $65,000, showing a modest daily increase and nearly 4% gain for the week, though still down approximately 45% from a year prior.

The underlying dispute stems from Bitcoin Core’s decision to remove its previous limit on OP_RETURN data. This change allowed for the inclusion of more non-monetary data, such as Ordinals and Runes, in blocks, which BIP-110 proponents wanted to reserve exclusively for payment transactions.

Farside Investors had previously warned of potential risks associated with the proposed fix. Wallets utilizing Miniscript could still generate addresses based on Taproot scripts slated for deprecation, rendering any bitcoin sent to them unspendable after activation. Pay-to-public-key outputs, an older script format holding over 1.7 million BTC, also faced new restrictions, although existing holdings remained spendable.

Not all supporters of BIP-110’s objectives agreed with the execution of this attempt. Writer Secure Sovereign, who backed the underlying fix but not this specific activation strategy, stated that the effort left BIP-110 as “a distant minority with no realistic path to catching the main chain,” arguing that miners never faced a genuine risk of being forked off themselves.

Days later, Bitcoin developer Murch initiated proceedings to remove Luke Dashjr from his role as a BIP editor, citing his handling of the proposal as a conflict of interest. This dispute is ongoing on Bitcoin’s mailing list.

  • Cysic (CYS) Hits Record High After Upbit Listing

Cysic (CYS) Hits Record High After Upbit Listing

Cysic Token Surges to Record High on South Korean Exchange Listing, Sparks Insider Trading Concerns

In a cryptocurrency market largely characterized by stagnation, even minor price movements from smaller-cap altcoins can capture significant attention. Cysic’s CYS token provided today’s notable example, experiencing a dramatic surge before a sharp decline.

The CYS token experienced a remarkable ascent, climbing over 60% from its previous day’s low of $0.8 to reach a new all-time high of $1.30. However, this peak was short-lived, as the token was subsequently rejected and fell sharply to $0.92 by press time. The primary driver for this volatility appeared to be a significant listing on Upbit, a major South Korean cryptocurrency exchange.

The timing of the rally has drawn scrutiny. Analysis of trading charts indicates that the most substantial price spike occurred around 23:00 UTC on August 9, when the asset touched $1.30. This preceded the official announcement of the Upbit listing on X, which was published hours later, after 03:00 UTC on August 10. Trading pairs against BTC and USDT commenced at 14:00 KST (05:00 UTC), prompting speculation on Crypto X regarding potential insider trading.

Despite these concerns, the token’s trajectory exemplifies a common “pump-and-dump” pattern. CYS, representing a decentralized infrastructure project focused on building “ComputeFi,” has emerged as one of the most volatile assets in an otherwise subdued market.

Listings on Upbit have historically led to immediate price increases for the associated tokens, often followed by retracements. In early May, this publication reported on a similar event when Upbit listed B3, the native token of a layer-3 blockchain network built on Base. At that time, B3’s price surged by triple digits, reaching $0.0021. Currently, B3 is trading approximately 80% below that local peak, struggling to maintain a price below $0.00045, according to CoinGecko data.

XRP ETFs Shine Again Amidst New Worries

XRP ETFs Maintain Upward Trend Amidst Emerging Concerns

Spot exchange-traded funds tracking XRP, the sixth-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, have achieved their fourth consecutive week of gains. However, several warning signs are emerging that warrant attention.

Meanwhile, the price of XRP’s native token has approached a critical support level that has, for now, held firm. Analysts are offering their perspectives on the asset’s future potential and what lies ahead.

During May and June, periods marked by significant outflows from spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs, often in the billions of dollars, XRP’s spot counterparts managed to buck the broader market slump. As previously reported, these ETFs experienced an impressive nine-week streak of positive performance. Even the single week that ended in the red in early May saw only a modest net outflow of $35,210.

July began with a setback, as the first full week recorded over $7 million in net withdrawals. However, bullish sentiment returned in the subsequent three weeks, with inflows of $6.78 million, $8.15 million, and $14.86 million, respectively. This brought the month to a close with net inflows totaling $27.29 million.

While this appears to be a positive outcome on the surface, a closer examination reveals the first warning sign: July represented the second-weakest month for net inflows since January of this year. The beginning of August has also seen positive net inflows, but another cautionary signal is the modest figure of just $1 million. In comparison, XRP ETFs attracted over $1 billion combined during the same period as BTC and ETH ETFs.

Over the first five trading days of August, two days reported no significant activity ($0.00). Investors withdrew $3.58 million on Wednesday. Net inflows of $1.15 million on Monday and $3.45 million on Thursday were just enough to offset these outflows.

The subdued ETF performance did little to support XRP’s price action during the week. The asset felt the negative impact of the delayed vote on the CLARITY Act in the U.S. Senate. As reported on Friday, the token dipped to $1.02, coming perilously close to falling below the key $1.00 support level.

Despite these headwinds, analysts remain optimistic about XRP’s future price trajectory. Some anticipate a “strongest price reversal” if the asset can maintain its current support and reclaim the $1.05 level in the near term. Others have projected ambitious targets of up to $50 for the next bull run, though these figures are admittedly considered far-fetched at present.

Altcoin Surges 50% Amid Bitcoin’s Drop Below $65K

Bitcoin’s Price Action Remains Sluggish Over the Weekend

Bitcoin’s price action has continued its dull trajectory over the weekend, with the cryptocurrency barely budging from the $65,000 range and currently trading just below that mark. Most larger-cap altcoins have also experienced sideways movement, though BNB has managed to reclaim the psychologically significant $600 level, while SOL and ZEC have seen gains of just over 2%.

The business week began on a negative note for the primary cryptocurrency. After recovering some ground the previous weekend following former President Trump’s decision to cancel planned attacks against Iran, Bitcoin had settled near $64,000. However, it faced a swift rejection on Monday morning, slipping to $62,200.

    Bulls Intervene, Price Recovers

Despite the downturn, bulls quickly intervened, helping Bitcoin rebound to $64,000 by Tuesday morning. The subsequent days saw gradual price increases, with BTC managing to touch $65,000. This upward momentum was halted, however, after the CLARITY Act encountered another setback in the U.S. Senate. A weak jobs report released on Friday then triggered a minor rally, pushing the asset to $65,400.

    Sideways Movement Persists

Bitcoin was unable to sustain its climb and retreated to $65,000, a level it held throughout Saturday. The cryptocurrency remained range-bound on Sunday as well, currently trading a few hundred dollars below that threshold. Its market capitalization remains around $1.3 trillion, with its dominance over altcoins exceeding 57% according to CoinGecko.

    Altcoin Market Sees Mixed Performance

The day’s standout performer in terms of gains is Audiera’s BEAT, a highly volatile token that has surged by 50% in the past 24 hours, reaching $3.30. PUMP and CC have followed suit with increases of 8-10%, while CRO has recovered some of its previous day’s losses, nearing $0.05 again.

Solana has reclaimed the $76 level after a 2% increase, and ZEC is trading close to $220 following a nearly 3% jump. BNB is now above $600, while XRP, HYPE, DOGE, and RAIN have registered minor losses. Ethereum continues to trade above $1,900.

The total market capitalization of all crypto assets has decreased by approximately $25 billion, now standing at $2.275 trillion, according to CoinGecko.

Bitcoin’s Tight Range Hints at Volatility Ahead as AI Predicts $150,000 Price

With only 1.32 million coins remaining unmined and an estimated 4 million permanently lost, the dwindling supply of Bitcoin is poised to become a dominant narrative in the second half of the year, according to AI predictions. Claude Fable 5 forecasts a potential surge to $150,000 by December, a significant leap from its current trading price of $64,600.

    A Multifaceted Catalyst List

The outlook is bolstered by an unusually extensive list of potential catalysts. Regulatory clarity, spearheaded by the CLARITY Act and closely followed by the GENIUS Act stablecoin framework, is leading the charge. Federal Reserve rate cuts are also expected to play a crucial role, particularly a widely anticipated dovish pivot once Jerome Powell’s term concludes in May. Persistent demand is further fueled by ETF holdings, which have already surpassed 1.5 million BTC.

Behind the scenes, corporate treasuries are continuing their accumulation of Bitcoin. This is complemented by a burgeoning Bitcoin-backed lending market, which analysts project will exceed $100 billion this year. The historical pattern of post-halving cycles provides another layer of support, with demand for Bitcoin as a safe-haven asset during periods of macroeconomic stress serving as the final contributing factor.

    A Sobering Counterpoint

However, the bullish outlook is tempered by recent market performance. June 2026 saw the worst monthly ETF outflow on record, amounting to approximately $4 billion. Bitcoin concluded the first half of the year down nearly 33%, a stark contrast to the rally experienced by tech stocks. Claude Fable 5 interprets this as a crypto-specific unwinding rather than a broader risk-off sentiment.

The market is currently trading within a narrow band, oscillating between $63,900 and $65,000. Should the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) decision prove disappointing and outflows persist, the bearish scenario anticipates Bitcoin breaking key support levels and potentially falling towards $45,000.

    Charting the Recent Price Action

The daily chart illustrates a complete price cycle. Bitcoin experienced a significant run from $75,000 last April to a peak near $126,000 in October. The subsequent unwind began in November, with prices falling to roughly $80,000 by December, followed by a brief recovery attempt.

February marked a decisive downturn, with prices plummeting from $90,000 to $60,000. The spring saw a rebound, reaching $82,000 by May, only for June to erase these gains and return Bitcoin to $58,000. Since then, the price structure has consolidated into a tight base with incrementally higher lows.

The latest closing price was $64,809, marking a 0.86% increase and a gain of $553 for the session. The daily trading range spanned from $64,103 to $64,910. Immediate support is identified at $63,900, followed by $60,000 and $58,000. Resistance levels are situated at $68,000, $72,000, and $76,000.

The Relative Strength Index (RSI) stands at 54.15, with the signal line at 49.64. This gap of approximately 4.5 points suggests a mild bullish leaning, albeit without strong conviction. Both indicators are hovering near the midpoint of their range, indicating a flattening momentum and a state of indecision.

Claude Fable 5 characterizes the current price range as a “coiled spring,” with the FOMC outcome expected to dictate the direction of the next significant price movement.

  • China Buys Most Gold Since 2023 Amid Bullion Price Surge

China Buys Most Gold Since 2023 Amid Bullion Price Surge

China’s Gold Rush Accelerates, Fueling Price Surge

China’s central bank made its largest monthly gold purchase in nearly three years in July, continuing a significant accumulation streak that mirrors a broader trend among global central banks to re-engage with the precious metal. This surge in demand is a key factor behind gold’s recent price resurgence, which saw the asset gain 8% over the past week.

    Record Purchases and Growing Reserves

Data from The Kobeissi Letter reveals that the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) acquired approximately 640,000 troy ounces, or about 20 tons, of gold in July alone. This marks the largest single-month purchase since October 2023. The PBOC’s buying spree now extends to an impressive 21 consecutive months. At the end of July, China’s gold reserves stood at just over 76 million ounces, up from under 75.5 million ounces in June. The current market value of this substantial gold hoard exceeds $306 billion.

    Accelerating Pace of Acquisition

What is particularly noteworthy is the accelerating pace of China’s gold acquisitions. After adding 160,000 ounces in March, the country progressively increased its purchases in the subsequent months. June’s accumulation of 480,000 ounces was already the largest in almost three years, a figure that was surpassed by July’s substantial acquisition.

    Strategic Relocation of Reserves

Beyond sheer volume, Beijing has also been strategically relocating a significant portion of its gold reserves from London to Hong Kong. This move aligns with Hong Kong’s ambitions to establish itself as a major hub for precious metals trading. Analysts at The Kobeissi Letter noted that “The relocation is set to continue as Hong Kong launches a new gold-clearing system aimed at making the city a bigger center for global gold trading and pricing.”

    Global Central Bank Demand Peaks

The trend of central bank interest in gold is not isolated to China. Data from the World Gold Council indicates that central banks collectively purchased a record 289 tonnes of gold in the second quarter, representing a substantial 74% increase compared to the same period last year.

    Contrast with Cryptocurrency Stance

In stark contrast to its robust gold accumulation, China has tightened its cryptocurrency restrictions earlier this year, reaffirming the illegality of all digital asset-related business activities. The country has also broadened its scrutiny to include stablecoins and the tokenization of real-world assets.

Gold’s Rebound and Performance Against Bitcoin

The substantial accumulation by the PBOC and other central banks has been instrumental in halting gold’s recent price decline and facilitating a significant recovery over the past week. After falling from its all-time high of $5,600 per ounce to just under $4,000 within months, the precious metal rebounded by 8% in the last week, closing at $4,342. This recovery has brought gold back to a breakeven year-to-date price. While not in positive territory for 2026, gold has demonstrated a far stronger performance than Bitcoin, which continues to struggle around $65,000, down over 25% since the beginning of the year.

Ripple’s XRP Hovers Above Key Support as Analysts Debate Future Trajectory

Ripple’s cross-border token, XRP, dipped to a critical support level just above $1.00 late last week, sparking concerns about a potential breach. The decline coincided with a delay in the CLARITY Act, leading some to question if a fall below this threshold was inevitable.

However, XRP managed to hold its ground over the weekend, prompting a renewed sense of optimism among several analysts who now anticipate a significant rebound. One prominent analyst even described the potential recovery as “the strongest in history.”

    Technical Indicators Signal Bullish Reversal

The token’s slide to $1.02 on Friday pushed its Relative Strength Index (RSI) into deeply oversold territory. According to popular analyst Dark Defender, this indicates that the indicator has reached a bottom on the weekly timeframe. Dark Defender explained this as the completion of a sub-wave structure within a larger “Grand Wave,” suggesting the end of a major correction.

Consequently, Dark Defender has adopted a strongly bullish stance, advising investors to “expect the strongest reversal in history” once XRP reclaims the $1.05 zone, which is currently being tested from below.

Fellow analyst Gerla echoed this sentiment, noting that XRP “just swept the lows and bounced straight from major support.” Gerla pointed out that while the price printed a lower low, the RSI simultaneously charted a bullish divergence. As long as XRP remains above $1.02, Gerla believes it has the potential to reclaim $1.08, a move that could trigger a “serious reversal.”

    Long-Term Outlook and Contrasting Predictions

Other optimistic analysts, including ChartNerd and EGRAG CRYPTO, have presented long-term charts suggesting a significant breakout is on the horizon for XRP. While their price targets, which range in the low to mid-double-digit figures, may seem ambitious given current market conditions, they align with an expectation of substantial future gains.

In stark contrast to these bullish forecasts, traders on the prediction market platform Polymarket appear largely convinced that XRP’s immediate future involves a drop below the $1.00 mark. The odds for such a decline by the end of the month have risen to 65%. Conversely, the probability of a rise to $1.20 stands at a much lower 17%, with a more substantial rebound to $1.40 having a negligible 2% chance.

    Historical Performance Fuels Bearish Sentiment

XRP’s historical performance in August may be contributing to this bearish outlook. The asset has closed in negative territory in all four previous Augusts, and has only seen positive returns in the month a mere four times since 2013.

CLARITY Act Stalled, Grayscale Outlines Crypto’s Path Forward

The CLARITY Act has been caught in political limbo as lawmakers depart for their August recess, prompting Grayscale to detail a potential roadmap for the U.S. cryptocurrency industry should Congress fail to enact the long-awaited market structure legislation this year.

While acknowledging that a delay would initially represent a setback, the digital asset manager believes a path forward exists. Grayscale has previously commented on the bill’s potential and, in its latest analysis, conceded that an agreement within the current year remains technically feasible. However, the realities of the Senate’s schedule and the approaching midterm elections have made official passage increasingly challenging.

The report emerges as Senate Majority Leader John Thune filed for cloture on the motion to proceed with the legislation before lawmakers left Washington last week. This procedural vote is slated for September 15 and requires 60 votes to succeed. Crucially, this is not a final vote on the bill itself, but rather a determination of whether senators can move forward to formally consider it.

Should this procedural hurdle not be cleared, Grayscale argues that Washington possesses alternative avenues to advance crypto regulation, even in the absence of comprehensive congressional action. Foremost among these is the role of regulatory agencies.

Both the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) have demonstrated a more accommodating stance toward the crypto industry in recent years. These bodies can continue to develop rules and interpretations governing the market, even if Congress remains inactive.

Nevertheless, these regulators face limitations in their ability to achieve significant progress without new legislation, particularly concerning the establishment of clear and permanent jurisdictional boundaries between them. Despite these constraints, they can still address key industry inflection points, including tokenized securities, custody, and trading.

On a more positive note, institutional involvement in the crypto space has surged over the past few years, driven by the introduction of spot ETFs, stablecoins, tokenized real-world assets (RWAs), and increasing Wall Street participation, all occurring while the CLARITY Act remains in legislative flux. Zach Pandl, Grayscale’s Head of Research, highlighted that the GENIUS Act already provided a federal framework for payment stablecoins, which he described as a significant achievement.

The bill’s stagnation at the close of the business week was a blow to the industry, though Thune’s cloture filing offered a glimmer of hope. However, several critical issues persist, including ethical disagreements, rules surrounding illicit finance, and specific language originating from the Senate Agriculture Committee.

Republicans currently lack sufficient votes to advance the legislation independently, even with unanimous support from their party, as they require at least seven votes from Democrats or independents. These persistent difficulties, with no clear resolution in sight, have diminished expectations for the bill’s passage this year, leading Galaxy Research to reduce its probability estimate from 50% to just 30%.
