Hayes Sells All Zcash Holdings Amid Major Flaw Discovery

Hayes Exits Zcash Holdings Amid Privacy Pool Vulnerability

The cryptocurrency market was jolted on June 5 by the discovery of a significant vulnerability within Zcash’s Orchard privacy pool. The revelation prompted Arthur Hayes, co-founder of BitMEX, to liquidate his entire ZEC position mere hours after the flaw’s details became public.

This sell-off has reignited a long-standing debate surrounding privacy-focused cryptocurrencies: can users truly trust systems where certain supply-related exploits might go undetected for extended periods?

Hayes announced his decision on X, declaring “The Holy Trinity is dead” and confirming the sale of his ZEC holdings following reports of the Orchard Pool vulnerability. Zcash founder Zooko Wilcox and members of Shielded Labs initially disclosed the issue, noting that security researcher Taylor Hornby identified the flaw on May 29.

According to the team, a malicious actor could have exploited this weakness to generate an unlimited supply of fake ZEC within Orchard, Zcash’s shielded transaction environment, without immediate detection.

While developers acted swiftly to implement a fix by June 1, a critical concern remained: the inherently private nature of Orchard meant there was no cryptographic means to definitively prove whether the bug had been exploited prior to its resolution. This uncertainty appears to have been the decisive factor for Hayes.

“While I think it’s extremely unlikely of any minting, it cannot be formally cryptographically proved impossible,” Hayes wrote, emphasizing that privacy-focused assets demand “perfection not improbability.”

The market’s reaction was swift and severe. CoinGecko data indicated that ZEC plummeted by over 35% in the 24 hours leading up to the report, trading around $386 after reaching highs of $611 within the same timeframe. The token has also seen a nearly 27% decline over the past week and a more than 40% drop over two weeks. Trading activity surged by nearly 46% as investors scrambled to reassess risk, pushing daily spot volume above $1.7 billion.

CoinGlass data revealed that the heightened volatility triggered approximately $49 million in liquidations over the past day, with long positions accounting for over $41 million of these losses.

This marks the second instance in recent days where Hayes has divested a position shortly after expressing bullish sentiment. Just the previous day, he disclosed selling his HYPE and NEAR holdings, having previously projected HYPE could reach $150.

The news of the vulnerability elicited varied responses from the crypto community. Investor Udi Wertheimer argued that privacy coins inherently carry a different risk profile than transparent blockchains, as counterfeit issuance can remain hidden for significant durations. He referenced a past Zcash inflation bug that was disclosed years after its existence.

Others adopted a more tempered perspective. Mert Mumtaz, CEO of Helius, pointed out that major software bugs have been a recurring issue across the cryptocurrency landscape, including Bitcoin. He stated that the immediate priority is determining whether exploitation occurred before the patch was applied.

Furthermore, Mumtaz highlighted that Zcash developers are already working on a future network upgrade designed to verify supply integrity through a migration to a new shielded pool.

Barry Silbert, founder of Digital Currency Group, also countered the prevailing negative sentiment, asserting that the disclosure underscored Zcash’s robust security processes rather than revealing a systemic failure.

“The AI-enabled assault on blockchains is here and I’m proudly on Team Zcash,” he posted.

Bitcoin Options Set to Expire Amidst Market Downturn

Approximately 26,000 Bitcoin options contracts, with a notional value of around $1.6 billion, are scheduled to expire on Friday, June 5. This expiration is smaller than last week’s end-of-month event, suggesting a limited impact on spot markets.

The cryptocurrency market has experienced a significant downturn this week, with over $300 billion erased as Bitcoin weakens and altcoins like Ether face substantial losses. This decline occurs against a backdrop of ongoing military tensions between the U.S. and Iran, persistent global inflationary pressures, and a seemingly elusive diplomatic resolution.

Options Expiry Details and Market Sentiment

The current batch of Bitcoin options contracts exhibits a put/call ratio of 0.56, indicating a greater number of long contract sellers compared to short contract sellers. According to Coinglass, the maximum pain point is situated around $71,000, a level considerably higher than current spot prices, suggesting that a majority of these contracts may expire out-of-the-money.

Open interest (OI) for Bitcoin options, representing the value or number of contracts yet to expire, remains highest at the $80,000 strike price on Deribit, totaling $1.6 billion. However, short sellers maintain a significant presence with $1.1 billion in OI at the $60,000 strike price. Overall BTC options OI across all exchanges has been declining, currently standing at $31.6 billion, as reported by Coinglass.

Bitcoin spot is trading approximately $8,000 below the maximum pain level following a challenging week that saw $1.5 billion in liquidations and a brief dip below $62,000. Deribit noted that the market’s positioning is heavily skewed towards call options.

Crypto derivatives provider Greeks Live observed that “With the price breaking below $70K, bears have become more aggressive, with significant increases in put positions at $68K, $65K, and $60K.”

    Ethereum Options Also Expiring

In addition to Bitcoin options, approximately 153,500 Ethereum contracts are also set to expire, carrying a notional value of $266 million. The maximum pain point for Ether options is at $2,000, with a put/call ratio of 0.97. Total ETH options OI across all exchanges is approximately $5.7 billion.

The combined notional value of all crypto options expiring today amounts to roughly $1.85 billion, marking a relatively modest event.

    Broader Market Collapse

This week has been the most severe for cryptocurrency markets since early February, with the total market capitalization plummeting to a four-month low of $2.26 trillion.

Bitcoin reached a low of $61,300 on Thursday and has shown little recovery above this level as of Friday morning. The asset remains more than 50% below its all-time high and is currently trading at the lower boundary of its range-bound channel, where significant support is located.

Ether has experienced a sharp decline, hitting a 14-month low of $1,730, its current trading level. Further losses appear probable as the weekend approaches, potentially ushering in another red period for digital assets.

  • XRP Faces Steep Drop If Support Fails

XRP Faces Steep Drop If Support Fails

XRP’s four-month trading range, characterized by fluctuating highs and lows that kept both optimistic and pessimistic investors engaged, is now facing significant pressure. The cryptocurrency has retreated to the precise support level that underpinned its range lows throughout this period of consolidation. A failure to hold this support could dictate XRP’s next major directional move.

    XRP Returns to Range Low

Analysis of XRP’s daily candlestick chart reveals the cryptocurrency is currently entrenched within a consolidation range that has been developing since February 2026. The upper boundary of this range, which has repeatedly capped rallies since February, sits around $1.55. The lower boundary, meanwhile, has been established in the $1.26 to $1.28 area.

According to an analysis shared on social media platform X by crypto analyst ‘Guy on the Earth,’ XRP was trading near $1.279, almost directly on this lower boundary, at the time of the post. However, the token has since fallen further, now trading around $1.16.

The loss of this support is noteworthy because the range low had previously served as a clear technical level on the chart. XRP had shown reactions from this area during earlier pullbacks in March and April, suggesting it was a point where buyers were expected to defend the structure once more.

However, the current situation presents a different outlook. A weekly close below this range would undermine that expectation and signal that the months-long sideways movement has concluded, with sellers now in control.

Downside Scenarios: From $1.10 to $0.63

Analyst Guy on the Earth, whose chart forms the basis of this analysis, posited that a breach of the current support zone would set XRP on a path toward $1.10, a level just below the lowest wick recorded in early February. This scenario appears to be materializing, as the cryptocurrency is now trading below the range floor, having declined by 6.1% in the past 24 hours.

The more critical question is the extent of a sustained breakdown beyond $1.10. If range support is lost and a deeper correction takes hold, the most probable bottom zone is estimated to be between $0.75 and $0.95.

Analyst Crypto Patel, offering an independent perspective on X, identified the $1.10-$1.30 range as a current accumulation zone. He suggested that if this support breaks, buying opportunities between $0.65 and $0.85 could represent a “generational entry.” While such a range would be challenging for current holders, it could still align with a broader bullish market pullback, allowing XRP to stabilize and resume an upward trend. The most bearish scenario outlined in the analysis places a potential bottom around $0.63, which would imply XRP retracing nearly all of its bull market gains since late 2023 before finding durable support.

  • XRP Plunges to 4-Month Low Amid Sell Signals

XRP Plunges to 4-Month Low Amid Sell Signals

The price of XRP experienced a significant decline on Wednesday, reaching a four-month low of $1.14. This downturn contributes to a broader cooling trend in the cryptocurrency market, with both technical analysis and on-chain data suggesting a more bearish outlook for the altcoin.

XRP Price Slips Below Key Averages

Market analyst Sam Daodu observed that current market conditions offer little support for XRP bulls. A primary concern is the prevailing trend structure. Daodu noted that XRP is trading below its crucial 7-day, 14-day, and 30-day moving averages, signaling a bearish short-term trend across multiple timeframes.

He further pointed out that the weekly exponential moving averages (EMAs), situated between $1.50 and $1.78, have acted as a ceiling for every attempted rebound. This indicates that buyers have struggled to push XRP beyond this upper resistance band, even during periods of recovery.

The outlook also appears challenging when comparing XRP’s price to its 200-day moving average, a level Daodu identifies as a critical demarcation between bullish and bearish market phases. The expert estimated this key reference point to be around $1.64, describing the current trading levels near $1.17 as requiring a “long climb back” to re-establish a constructive trend.

    Whale Withdrawals Hit 4-Year Low

On-chain activity further amplifies concerns surrounding XRP’s price trajectory. Whale withdrawals from Binance, typically seen as a positive indicator of long-term holding by large investors, have sharply decreased.

Over the last 30 days, whale withdrawals have fallen to approximately 978 million XRP, a level Daodu described as the lowest since 2021, effectively a four-year low. Concurrently, data from CryptoQuant suggests that accumulation by large holders has stalled, implying a lack of conviction among major investors to increase their holdings during this price decline.

Considering these factors, Daodu has outlined a bearish scenario with three key price levels. The first is $1.14, identified as the near-term technical target. The second is $1.11, mirroring the low recorded in February. The third is $1, aligning with the monthly Bollinger Band floor, which could serve as a potential bottom if selling pressure intensifies. He emphasized that if macroeconomic conditions do not improve and whales remain hesitant to accumulate, these levels could become the next significant support points.

    What The Recovery Depends On

Daodu also suggested that XRP’s future trajectory may depend on three key factors. Firstly, the ability of XRP’s price to hold the $1.14 level is crucial. A successful defense could allow the bullish case to materialize, whereas a breach would likely lead to further declines toward $1.11 and potentially the $1 mark.

Secondly, the outcome of the CLARITY Act floor vote is significant. A vote scheduled before the August recess would provide much-needed regulatory clarity. Conversely, a lack of a vote could exacerbate disappointment and add to existing macroeconomic pressures.

The third factor involves a resurgence in whale behavior, specifically an increase in XRP withdrawals from Binance above the current 30-day average of 978 million XRP. Rising withdrawal volumes would signal renewed accumulation by larger holders.

Despite these bearish indicators, Daodu cautioned that XRP’s recent decline may not be solely driven by its specific fundamentals. He argued that XRP’s price has been pulled down in tandem with the broader market, suggesting that its next phase of movement will likely be influenced by the evolution of these wider market conditions.

  • Crypto Plunges, New Lows Loom

    Crypto Plunges, New Lows Loom

Crypto Crashes, New Lows In Sight

Bitcoin and major cryptocurrencies experienced a sharp decline on Wednesday and overnight, with even previously strong altcoins failing to escape the sell-off.

The current downturn distinguishes itself from recent dips as “hype” coins and recent outperformers also saw significant drops. ZEC fell 12%, NEAR dropped 18%, and VVV declined 12%, all of which had reached new local highs on Wednesday. HYPE itself had traded as high as $75 before the market correction.

Arthur Hayes’s commentary did little to stem the tide, as he announced he had divested his entire HYPE and NEAR holdings, citing his belief that the macroeconomic peak is either here or imminent. He pointed to rising energy prices, the upcoming launches of three major AI IPOs, and an anticipated shift in Trump’s stance on AI as potential catalysts for a market top between now and September.

Hayes tweeted, “I just dumped my entire $HYPE and $NEAR position, I will explain why in my essay ‘Reality Test’ dropping next Tuesday. TLDR: – Higher energy prices due to Iran war and inventory restocking – 3 Mega AI IPOs between now and early Q3 – Prediction that Trump goes anti-AI to win…”

Bitcoin, meanwhile, is facing considerable pressure. Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) have recorded 11 consecutive days of outflows, totaling $1.4 billion this week alone. Michael Saylor continues to be a focal point for negative sentiment, with MicroStrategy (STRC) now trading $5 below its par value. Bitcoin is rapidly approaching its previous cycle lows. The local bottom of $60,000, briefly touched on February 5th, is now a critical support level. Failure to hold this level could signal a further significant decline.

Bitmine Employs Strategy’s Playbook Amid STRC’s Decline

Bitmine filed on Wednesday to offer 3 million shares of Series A Perpetual Preferred Stock with a $100 stated value, aiming to raise $300 million at a 9.5% annual dividend rate. The shares are slated to list on the NYSE under the ticker BMNP.

This offering’s structure is explicitly modeled after Strategy’s STRC, indicating that Tom Lee is applying the preferred stock financing strategy favored by Michael Saylor to his Ethereum holdings.

The timing of this move is noteworthy, particularly as Strategy’s STRC carries a higher 11.5% dividend and has recently encountered liquidity challenges. Following a decrease in its cash reserves to $871 million against $1.7 billion in annual obligations, STRC has traded significantly below par, falling below $95 yesterday. Strategy was compelled to sell Bitcoin last week for the first time in four years to cover dividend payments.

Bitmine’s financial position is structurally different. The firm holds 5.42 million ETH, representing 4.5% of Ethereum’s circulating supply, and generates over $300 million annually in staking revenue through its MAVAN validators. This staking income is intended to fund dividend obligations without depleting the principal. Consequently, Bitmine theoretically would not need to sell assets to pay its preferred shareholders, as the assets themselves generate the necessary revenue.

While this structure suggests a degree of safety, the overall impact may be limited. With ETH trading below $1,828, Bitmine is currently facing an estimated $9 billion in unrealized losses from its average accumulation price. An additional $300 million in buy pressure is unlikely to significantly alter this situation.

MoonPay Integrates Claude and Codex for AI-Powered Crypto Trading

MoonPay launched its MoonAgents Desktop application on Wednesday, a graphical interface that enables users to connect Claude Code and OpenAI’s Codex directly to crypto wallets, token swaps, prediction markets, and blockchain services without requiring command-line configuration.

Users can sign in using their existing Claude or Codex accounts, and the application will set up the necessary AI infrastructure in the background. Pre-built “Skills” are designed to handle common cryptocurrency actions such as buying, selling, and setting price alerts, while “Automations” allow agents to execute tasks on a schedule without user intervention. An “Artifacts” feature generates visual dashboards created by the AI itself.

Private keys are stored locally in an encrypted format, ensuring that MoonPay never has access to user assets. Connecting a Ledger device adds an additional approval layer, requiring AI confirmation before any transaction is executed. The underlying MoonAgents MCP server supports 54 crypto tools across 17 skills and 10 blockchains, offering a broader range of functionalities than Coinbase’s payment-focused MCP or Gemini’s exchange-custodied trading tools.

As an example use case, a user could instruct Claude Dispatch via text message to “rebalance my portfolio,” and the agent would execute the trades, log the activity, and generate a dashboard without the user needing to open an application. This development signals a significant step towards agentic trading, with MoonPay playing a key role in its advancement.

World Cup Kicks Off in 7 Days Amid Rising Crypto Scams

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to commence on June 11th in Mexico City and will conclude on July 19th in New York City. Law enforcement agencies have issued warnings to soccer fans, highlighting that the scams targeting them are more sophisticated and heavily reliant on cryptocurrency than those seen in previous tournaments.

The FBI, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD), and Malwarebytes all released advisories this week. Cybercriminals are reportedly creating fake FIFA websites and AI-generated phishing sites capable of mimicking legitimate brands within hours.

Malwarebytes identified one site promoting a token as “the official community token celebrating the FIFA World Cup 2026,” complete with a 7-billion-token supply and a participant counter fixed at the symbolic number 48, representing the number of qualified teams. Another scam utilized FIFA’s official mascot to market an unlicensed token. Bitdefender Labs has detected over 55 active football-themed scam campaigns, encompassing fake online stores, malicious social media advertisements, IPTV piracy, and FIFA-themed giveaways.

The global head of scam research at Malwarebytes offered a stark assessment: “Scammers love crypto. It helps them remain anonymous and it’s mostly impossible to reverse the transaction. If it has to do with crypto, just stop.”

  • XRP Plummets to Multi-Month Low on 14th Anniversary

XRP Plummets to Multi-Month Low on 14th Anniversary

Ripple’s XRP token is currently trading at $1.16, marking a nearly 10% decline over the past seven days. The cryptocurrency hit a multi-month low on what was, with a touch of irony, the token’s 14th birthday.

    A Birthday Drop

The recent downturn saw XRP briefly dip below the $1.20 mark, a level it had not sustained since an early February sell-off. However, the full extent of the damage appears more significant than the headline price suggests. Multiple support levels have now been breached, and the market structure heading into this week offers little solace to investors who have been attempting to average down their positions.

The genesis of the XRP ecosystem dates back to June 2, 2012, when Ripple co-founder Arthur Britto released the code that minted 100 billion XRP tokens.

Thirteen years later, the anniversary was marked by a sharp, rapid decline to $1.20. This coincided with approximately $30 million in leveraged liquidations and a market capitalization collapse from over $85 billion to below $75 billion within days.

Adding to the indignity, XRP has been surpassed by USDC as the fifth-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization on CoinGecko.

    Broader Market Pressures

The wider altcoin market is not providing any upward momentum. A prevailing risk-off sentiment dominates, and XRP’s repeated inability to break through the $1.50–$1.60 resistance band, most recently failing at $1.55 in mid-May, has left its chart structurally weak as sellers regain control.

XRP is currently hovering around $1.152 on the daily chart, testing the February low, which represented the most critical support level on its entire chart. The wick down to $1.10–$1.12 in February stands as the last significant floor, and XRP is now positioned directly above it following a sharp three-week sell-off that has completely reversed the recovery seen from March to May.

The four months of consolidation between $1.20 and $1.60 have been entirely erased in a matter of weeks, indicating a significant structural failure and suggesting that the demand supporting that range was not as robust as the chart previously implied.

A daily close below $1.10 would push XRP into uncharted territory on this timeframe, with no meaningful support below. The next reference point would likely need to be drawn from much longer-term charts, potentially dating back to the lows of 2024.

On the upside, reclaiming the $1.30 level is the initial hurdle required to even begin discussing a recovery. Above that, the $1.50 range midpoint would need to flip before any bullish narrative can be re-established.

The only marginal positive is that the price is currently situated within a historically significant bounce zone. The sell-off has been swift and sharp, which can sometimes precede relief bounces before any further downward continuation. However, the structure is broken, the base has failed, and until $1.10 proves its ability to hold on a daily closing basis, the chart currently presents more downside risk than upside potential.

When an established altcoin experiences a 9% weekly loss, sees key support levels transform into resistance, and relinquishes its top-five market cap ranking to a stablecoin, it signals more than just market noise. It represents a clear message from the market.

Capital rotating out of mid-cap altcoins with substantial overhead supply historically flows into early-stage projects where the upside potential has not yet been fully priced in. Bitcoin Hyper is positioned directly in this path.

The project is currently in its presale phase, priced at $0.0136811, and has already raised $32.8 million, a figure that reflects genuine investor conviction. Its core proposition warrants attention: Bitcoin Hyper claims to be the first Bitcoin Layer 2 solution with full Solana Virtual Machine integration, promising sub-second finality and smart contract execution that surpasses Solana’s speed while remaining anchored to Bitcoin’s security model.

A Decentralized Canonical Bridge facilitates BTC transfers across chains. High-speed, low-cost execution and a high APY staking mechanism complete the infrastructure stack. This is precisely the environment where significant capital tends to accumulate early, before a product is fully proven and before its market capitalization reflects the ongoing development.

XRP Faces Potential Crash Below $1 as Key Support Breaks, Whales Sell

XRP Plummets to Four-Month Low Amidst Market Downturn and Whale Sell-Off

XRP has joined the broader cryptocurrency market’s downward trend, falling to a new four-month low of under $1.15. This significant decline follows a shift in investor sentiment, with exchange-traded fund (ETF) investors reportedly reversing their positions and large holders, or “whales,” liquidating substantial amounts of XRP. Analysts are now suggesting that further price drops could be imminent.

From Potential Breakout to Sharp Correction

Just three weeks ago, XRP was trading near the $1.55 resistance level, with many market observers anticipating a move towards $1.80 or higher. However, the token experienced a sharp rejection, culminating in a recent plunge to just below $1.15. This represents a 25% correction, pushing XRP to its lowest point since an early February downturn that saw it dip to $1.11.

    Market-Wide Sell-Off and Investor Behavior

The downturn in XRP’s price is occurring against a backdrop of a wider market slump, which has seen Bitcoin fall towards $61,000 and Ethereum reach a 14-month low. In addition to these general market pressures, specific factors may be contributing to XRP’s decline. According to analyst Ali Martinez, whales have sold or redistributed approximately 60 million XRP tokens in the past week alone. Such large-scale movements by major holders typically increase selling pressure on an asset.

ETF Flows Reverse as Investors Reassess

Investors gaining exposure to XRP through U.S. spot ETFs have also altered their strategies. After a period of consistent inflows or neutral activity, June 3 saw a net outflow of over $5 million, according to data from SoSoValue, indicating a potential shift in institutional interest.

    Analyst Predicts Further Downside

CasiTraders, a market analyst, commented on XRP’s price action, noting that the token is “breaking below a very important support level.” She expressed concern that the situation could deteriorate further, predicting a significant drop to levels below $1.00 in the near future. Her outlook suggests a potential sequence of a sharp decline towards $0.92, followed by a temporary rebound to around $1.20 (which she expects to act as resistance), and then a final move down to $0.87.

However, CasiTraders also noted that this bearish scenario could be invalidated if XRP manages a decisive rebound and reclaims the $1.30 resistance level.

  • Hayes Ditches HYPE and NEAR: A Familiar Cycle

Hayes Ditches HYPE and NEAR: A Familiar Cycle

Arthur Hayes Sells HYPE and NEAR Holdings, Citing Macro Concerns

Arthur Hayes, co-founder of BitMEX and CIO of Maelstrom, has once again divested his holdings in HYPE and NEAR. The prominent figure cited a confluence of factors for his decision, including rising energy prices linked to geopolitical tensions in Iran, the potential liquidity drain from upcoming major AI initial public offerings (IPOs), and a belief that markets may reach a peak between now and September. Hayes’ strategy, he explained, is to secure profits and reallocate capital into Bitcoin.

Hayes revealed his move via social media, stating, “I just dumped my entire $HYPE and $NEAR position, I will explain why in my essay ‘Reality Test’ dropping next Tuesday. TLDR: – Higher energy prices due to Iran war and inventory restocking – 3 Mega AI IPOs between now and early Q3 – Prediction that Trump goes anti-AI to win…”

However, this abrupt exit contrasts sharply with Hayes’ stance just four days prior. He had previously expressed strong optimism for HYPE, posting “Meow — $HYPE to $150” alongside a cat meme and championing what he termed his “holy trinity” of altcoins: HYPE, ZEC, and NEAR. He even engaged in a $100,000 charity bet with Kyle Samani, wagering that Hyperliquid would outperform all top-10 cryptocurrencies by year-end.

    A Familiar Pattern Emerges

While there is no inherent issue with taking profits, the swift reversal has drawn scrutiny due to its perceived similarity to past actions. In September 2025, Hayes was notably bullish on Hyperliquid, forecasting a potential 126x rally and consistently promoting the token before subsequently selling millions of dollars worth. At the time, he humorously acknowledged that some of the proceeds would fund a Ferrari purchase.

This pattern of renewed bullishness and subsequent exit has repeated. In 2026, Hayes once again presented fresh price targets, expressed strong conviction, and promoted new narratives before exiting his positions.

    Community Reaction and Hayes’ Influence

The cryptocurrency community has voiced its observations, with many noting Hayes’ tendency to buy into an already moving token, promote increasingly ambitious price targets, and then sell into the resulting momentum. Critics questioned how someone could advocate for a $150 target for HYPE only to liquidate their entire position shortly thereafter.

Some supporters of Hyperliquid have defended Hayes’ prerogative to trade as he sees fit, emphasizing that he is not obligated to hold indefinitely and that no one is compelled to mirror his trades.

Nevertheless, Hayes is not merely another crypto influencer. As a recognized pioneer in crypto derivatives and a significant industry figure, his market commentary continues to hold considerable sway. When he repeatedly constructs bullish narratives around a token and then exits shortly after, it naturally invites questioning.

The frustration appears to stem from a recurring pattern observed across various assets, including ETH, PEPE, ENA, and HYPE. While Hayes’ wallet transactions are publicly accessible, transparency alone does not shield him from criticism when such cycles repeat.

Hayes is expected to release a more detailed essay explaining his decision, and his macroeconomic concerns may ultimately prove prescient. The crypto market is known for its rapid shifts, and sound risk management is an integral part of navigating it.

Ultimately, the crypto space is not short on bullish narratives. What is often lacking, critics argue, is accountability when those narratives evaporate the moment profits are within reach.

Ethereum Tumbles Below $1,800, Bears Gain Upper Hand

Ethereum Price Slides Below $1,800 Amidst Bearish Sentiment

Ethereum’s price has entered a fresh downturn, trading below the critical $1,800 mark. The cryptocurrency is currently consolidating its losses in this lower range, with indicators suggesting a potential for further declines.

    Ethereum’s Downward Trajectory

Ethereum has remained firmly within a bearish zone following a significant drop below $1,840. The digital asset is now trading beneath both the $1,800 threshold and its 100-hourly Simple Moving Average. A bearish trend line has emerged on the hourly ETH/USD chart, with resistance identified at the $1,800 level, according to data from Kraken. The pair’s downward momentum could persist if it fails to reclaim the $1,880 zone.

    Over 5% Drop Recorded

Ethereum experienced a notable decline, failing to sustain its position above $1,880 and initiating a fresh downward movement, mirroring Bitcoin’s recent performance. The ETH price breached the $1,840 and $1,820 support levels, subsequently falling below $1,800. A low of $1,716 was established, and the price is now consolidating well below the 23.6% Fibonacci retracement level of the move from the $1,889 swing high to the $1,716 low.

The hourly ETH/USD chart shows a developing bearish trend line with resistance at $1,800. Ethereum is currently trading below $1,800 and the 100-hourly Simple Moving Average.

Potential for Recovery and Further Losses

Should bullish sentiment prevail and the price hold above $1,720, Ethereum might attempt a recovery. Immediate resistance is observed around the $1,780 level. The first significant resistance point is situated near $1,800, which also coincides with the 50% Fibonacci retracement level of the recent downward move. The next key resistance lies at the $1,820 level. A decisive break above $1,820 could propel the price towards the $1,850 resistance. Surpassing the $1,850 region might signal further gains in the coming days, potentially pushing Ethereum towards the $1,880 resistance zone or even $1,920 in the short term.

However, if Ethereum falters to clear the $1,850 resistance, a renewed decline could ensue. Initial support is found near the $1,720 level. The primary support zone is located around $1,700. A clear breach below this $1,700 support could drive the price towards the $1,665 support. Further losses might see the price testing the $1,640 region, with the main support potentially at $1,620.

US Sanctions Iran’s Largest Crypto Exchange Nobitex in Major ‘Economic Fury’ Crackdown

The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has imposed sanctions on Nobitex, Iran’s largest digital asset exchange, along with three other Iranian cryptocurrency platforms. This action is part of the Trump administration’s “Economic Fury” campaign, designed to intensify economic pressure on Tehran.

The Treasury’s sanctions target Nobitex, Wallex, Bitpin, and Ramzinex. U.S. officials allege that these exchanges have aided users in circumventing sanctions, facilitated financial activities connected to Iran, and processed transactions linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

In a statement released this week, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent asserted that Iran has increasingly leveraged digital asset technologies to advance its “corrupt agenda,” which includes evading sanctions and moving wealth out of the country. He added that the Treasury would continue to monitor financial activities through both traditional banking channels and digital assets as part of the administration’s broader strategy to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

According to the Treasury, Nobitex handled over 50% of all Iranian digital asset inflows in 2025 and played a pivotal role in the nation’s crypto ecosystem. The agency accused the exchange of facilitating payments related to Iran’s terrorist activities, sanctions evasion efforts, and IRGC-connected transactions, including dealings with IRGC-affiliated ransomware actors. The Treasury also alleged that Nobitex assisted the Central Bank of Iran in accessing hundreds of millions of dollars in stablecoins used to support the Iranian rial, and enabled regime insiders to access international crypto exchanges across various jurisdictions.

The Treasury stated that Nobitex helped secure and move assets out of Iran, even amidst internet blackouts that occurred from the outset of the war. In addition to sanctioning the exchange itself, OFAC designated Amir Hossein Rad, Nobitex’s chairman, co-founder, and former CEO, along with several other company leaders and officials.

The agency’s findings indicate that Rad was instrumental in restoring Nobitex’s operations following a $90 million hack that the platform experienced in June 2025.

OFAC also sanctioned Nobitex co-founders Seyed Mohammad Ali Aghamir Mohammad Ali and Seyed Mohammad Aghamir Mohammad Ali, who are reportedly members of the Kharrazi family, described by the Treasury as being part of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei’s inner circle. Seyed Ali Khoee, the current CEO of Nobitex, was also designated.

Meanwhile, Wallex, identified as Iran’s second-largest digital asset exchange by volume, reportedly received 12% of Iranian digital asset inflows in 2025 and is alleged to have facilitated transactions linked to the IRGC. Bitpin accounted for 10% of Iranian digital asset inflows in 2025 and processed millions of dollars in transactions, including transfers purportedly connected to the IRGC. Some of Bitpin’s investors have also reportedly been linked to efforts to evade U.S. sanctions.

Ramzinex, an exchange founded in Tehran in 2018, has processed over $2.45 billion in transactions and is accused of facilitating transactions linked to the IRGC and an Iranian government-backed financial institution.
